That's why I'm doing opposing motions.
Bench gets my triceps and pecs, and rows get my lats and my biceps.

Same here, but my weight has just plain been fluctuating like mad. Some days I'll gain weight, then the next I have lost a pound. But my pants have been getting definitely looser. I think it has to do with water weight as well.
Already need to get a new belt.
Have you been doing cardio too? If not, then just spend a good while on an elliptical or exercise bike. Cardio is important.
I do a bit of cardio, not very much though. I don't really like doing it, and I'd rather get some muscles. But yeah, I go from 78-80 kgs but I've definitely lost fat.
I used to be in really awful shape and had no muscles. Being able to do 5 pull ups is quite awesome when you've been used to not being able to do 1.
Don't neglect your cardio if you're looking to lose fat. Depending on what the rest of your workout is, I'd say 20-35 minutes of cardio. I'm doing 40 and am planning on increasing my intensity from here.
Do Pull-ups work your abs?
Because I just had my ab workout and mid-exercise I realized that my abs were already sore and immediately stopped.
if that counts as overtraining then fuck me
They work out your abs to an extent, especially if you hold your legs up when doing them, but it doesn't work them out much.
I recently started using the small gym in my boarding house at school. Usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays after sport.
I use the multigym and dumbbells for weights, I use the rowing machine alot, and I do usually 20 push-ups and 50-70 sit-ups. Unfortunately the rowing machine is missing one of the footholds so it's a decision between using 1 leg or sitting awkwardly for half the time. I am sensible and choose the latter.
Wish me luck.
Dungbells?
I think you mean dumbbells.
What on earth are you on about? I made no such mistake.
God damn my inability to spell.

Everything works your abs. EVERYTHING. Now if you wanted to add size onto your abs that's a slightly different story, and might require specific work based on your genetics.
Truth be told one of the best ab exercises is actually the deadlift.

protein related question. my whey container recommends 2-3 servings per day, with one scoop (25g protein) of the powder in each serving. is it fine if i have only one serving each day after i use the gym, but use 2 scoops (50g) instead? will it be just as effective?
They should rename the Shakeweight to the Masturwate.

50g at a time isn`t too bad but I read that you should have it over time, like take sips over 5-10 minutes instead of just downing it. I read that it`s better to have a large amount over time because more gets absorbed.
I'm wanting to work off some fat and also bulk up and get some muscle. EDIT: I don't want to be a machine, just look alright in general.
I have a few questions
1. Is loosing weight by lifting weights a good idea? or should I loose it by cardio?
2. Should I do cardio then begin lifting weights, or do a bit of both at the same time.
Thanks!

Weight lifting is great for losing fat. I do recommend doing a little cardio before your work out, though, in order to get your heart rate up and to get blood flowing through your muscles

Will it actually remove fat from other places in the body rather than upper body?
If you stick with it, yes. Weight lifting takes a lot of energy, thus, burning a lot of fat and calories.

Sweet, thanks for the advice. Gonna buy some proper weights tonight and get going with a routine next week!

I would lift weights first, then do cardio.

You can`t really target where you want to lose weight, but you can build muscle/tone there. I reccommend working out AND doing cardio, don't just do one or the other since they both accomplish different things although it is true that you do burn calories from working out.
Upper body days pure weight lifting
Lower body days sprints afterwards
Wednesday pure cardio
Works for me.
Disregard this.
The 3 sets of 3 reps I did raped my muscles so hard that my entire back, triceps and biceps are sore as shit today.
fuck yeah
Damn... so today I did a thing called burnouts. It's where you load a bunch of 10s onto a barbell and bench and you do as many reps as you can, and then remove a 10 from each side and do as many reps as you can, then you continue this down until you are just the bar(45) and oh shit it makes a 45 lb bar feel like a fucking huge boulder. It was pretty brutal.

Yeah I do those once in a while except with like 100 pounds on or something, then I just do as many reps as I can and damn it hurts like a bitch.
Did a set of 6 pull-ups with a 45lb plate hanging off me today. Feels good!
You should split up your workout routine, if you have time, do arms, different arm muscles, legs all on different days
Did a set of 6 pull-ups with a 45lb plate hanging off me today. Feels good!
Yeah I started doing weighted pullups like a month ago and I was surprised how much I could do...
Right now I can do 45 for 10 reps or so, feels good man
[editline]9th November 2010[/editline]
When I started I did them for 4-6 reps with a 45, I just don't do it very often (once a week maybe) because it puts a lot of stress on my already fucked up shoulder :(
Yeah I do those once in a while except with like 100 pounds on or something, then I just do as many reps as I can and damn it hurts like a bitch.
Yeah I was doing it with 145. It's the kind of sore that just feels oh so great though after you are done haha.

I do reps of 30-50, you do that with 145 pounds? What's your max bench then, mine's only 200 lol
I do reps of 30-50, you do that with 145 pounds? What's your max bench then, mine's only 200 lol
you don't really do a set amount of reps when you do this, just you do as many reps as you can do until you can't do anymore then you take off two 10s and do as many reps as you can, and so on until its just the bar. with 145 i lost track of how many reps i did, probably 5 or so. i haven't tested out my 1 rep max but I am assuming it's around 165 or so.

Oh I thought you meant just pounding out a bunch of reps with one weight, I do that sometimes as a burnout. I don`t like doing that thing you said because I would rather do 5 reps of 185 or something then rest and do 5 more instead of no rest and putting down the weight. I never do dropsets =/

I did the same today but 10 of them. Then I did 10 of (not sure what they're called) holding my legs straight out while doing pull ups. And dips too. What's the most dips you all can do? I collapse at 27.
