You guys are lucky. I weigh 210 lbs and can't bench past the 45 lb bar with 30 lbs of weight. I could only do like 5 pushes up and down on that. :(
Same here.
My weights:
Bench: 20-40lbs + 45lb bar (I can max 1 rep with 70lbs + bar I think)
Bicep curls: 20-25lbs per hand
Tricep extension: 40-50lbs
Leg curls: 50lbs (I can do more, about 80, but my weight training teacher said to do lots of reps on a light weight)
Leg extension: 90lbs.
Leg press: 200lbs
Shoulder Shrugs: 55lbs
I feel pretty weak, most of the other people in my class put me to shame.
Use the school's gym after school.
What about vacations?
I don't want to lose progress once summer/Christmas roll around.
I'm too self-conscious to go the gym.
I'm not fat, but i'm not in the best shape.
I started to take weightlifting in school, and I went from weighing 110 to 138 in a few weeks.
Fucking muscle weighing more than fat.
Excessive muscles freak me the fuck out, like the man who's arms exploded, that shit was heavy.
Yea I've been weight lifting for a year now, and its definitely been worth it.
Current stats -
350 squat
405 deadlift
205 bench (Weak as hell, but my lower body is good. So I'm happy.)
My lower body has always been really tough ever since I did a month long squat cycle called the Smolov (Its Russian) where you squat HEAVY 4 times a week. (Mon, Wed, Friday, Sat). My legs were basically dead at the end of it, and it took almost a month to recover fully, but since than my entire lower body has been very strong.
I wouldn't recommend it regardless, you might die.
But yea if you can start, weight lifting is a great way to get in shape, just learn to keep the form good and lift with friends if you can, its safer that way.

I'm not going to monitor my weight since it'll just discourage me. I'm going to look at my waistband and how my clothes fit in general instead. If all goes well, my fat-muscle ratio will be better and I will need to get a smaller belt.

If you are consistent, you probably won't lose THAT much weight.
For me, my weight has barely changed at all, but I have more than twice my endurance in every aspect, I'm more than twice as strong, my body is better toned all over.
If you were to see before/after pictures you'd see a huge difference.
Don't worry man! Everyone was at one point like that! When I see skinny kids doing cardio and stuff when they should be trying to bulk up-that's hilarious.
BUT when they're at the gym, even doing JUST the bar for all their exercises, but using proper form, and you can see they're trying, I have lots of respect for them. No one will laugh at you or put you down. And if you see someone much bigger than you- jus think, one day you could possibly be like that!
You could possibly get to the point, where you can't reach your face!

isn't this a fetish somewhere?
What are some good overall arm exercises. I am in Muay Thai (Thai Boxing) and my arms are mis proportionate to my body. Well to me they are I just want to strengthen my arms and punches. I've got a dumbell set what do you all recommend?
do bench first. always do compound exercises first.
[editline]06:05PM[/editline]
why are 100 pound curls dumb
[editline]06:06PM[/editline]
With dumbbells you can pretty much do anything, as long as you have a big variety of weights. What do your weights go up to? And do you have a proper bench?
[editline]06:06PM[/editline]
i don't know if this workout is a joke or if it's serious?
oh and those 'fancy curl things' are called 21's :downs:
um its serious ofc deadly serious it will make u ripped
I understand bodybuilding, but what is the point of weightlifting unless you play a contact sport?

makes you feel good about yourself, stronger for physical tasks, focuses your mind, increases your lifespan and general health, appearence, social activity, gets you out of the house, structures your life, is fun

It's also good for burning fat I've heard.
diet is 90%
In my fitness class, we do weightlifting, but along with Squats, Benchpress and Deadlift, we also do Clean/Power.
Doing the p90x ab ripper workout, then getting a cold and coughing all day gives you an 8 pack.

I thought you could get that just from cardio? Actually I thought you got that better from cardio?
studies have proven that heavy weight lifting improves life expectancy and yes surprise surprise any type of exercise is good for you and lifting is a type of exercise
i bench 235 on a good day and squat 315 on a good day
football helps
i seriously hate benching so much
i dont like talking about it
;_;
But firerain why
Benching is the most fun
Benching killed his family in an alleyway.
But firerain why

Military press and high pull are workouts for men.
I don't really see the point in bodybuilding if it's just for appearance. Being a muscle-bound idiot who can't put his arm past a 90 degree angle because his biceps are bigger than his head doesn't sound too appealing.
i love benching but hate squats...
I benched a max of 230 although my usual was 200-215. I could do 150 on the fly. I used to be able to leg press 550lbs in middle school but I think that screwed up my legs because now my legs pop and do weird stuff when they are under a lot of pressure. Up in college I was running 2 or 3 miles a day with a time around 6:40 for each mile (usually did a mile to warm up, worked out, then another mile after).
Trying to get back in shape right now. My goal is to shed some weight, I'm not at all fat, but I'd like my abs to show.

I wouldn't mind body building to a point, as in being ripped but not overly muscular.
Starting gym from tomorrow on, gonna do 3 way split routine like this.
Day one: back biceps
Day two: chest triceps
Day three: legs/abs/everything else
At the moment i'm 6" 1' at roughly 145 pounds.
For supplements i bought a can of Animal Pump and a can of MyoFusion protein. Can post progress pictures if people want them.
That's a pretty good split actually, the only problem is that if you don't work out every single day, your muscles will have too much rest between each time they workout and may not comprehend the working out as exercise, but merely a stress that happens once in a while. For example, if you only do chest twice a week it might not be often enough and if you do take any break days you might be doing chest 1 in every 4 or 5 days. Pretty good split to start though, once you get more serious try and get a 2 day split going.
