Like someone pointed out. There is a severe difference between the Bungie and 343 way that the stories are handled. You can see it in the cutscenes alone. A friend put it best; Bungie Halo was inspired by Starship Troopers. 343 Halo was inspired by Gundam.
Just looking at the thumbnail for the video. I think you guys are really ungrateful that Barney Calhoun isn't dead.
I can't understand how the Spartan IVs could do that. They aren't as extensively augmented as the IIs or IIIs, they don't have the same quality armour as the other Spartans, and they aren't as extensively trained as the other Spartans, yet they can do things that no other Spartans in the series have been able to do. You can make the more advanced technology excuse, but it doesn't change the fact that they are basically ODSTs in power armour. Is it just 343 making their Spartans the best and coolest ever? I wish it was. The book is Halo: New Blood.
Technically speaking, while the 4s arent nearly as genetically modified as the 2s or even the 3s, their armor is the best in history thanks to all the Huragok intervention. And you're right, these spartans are basically ODSTs in combat armor, and if thats not your thing thats fine but as it stands this fits in with the narrative.

I've watched the cutscene about 20+ times now (most of those...because of this post), and every time I notice more things about it that makes it far more tame than when I first watched it. You can see when their shields (the Spartans) flash upon taking a hit, the little jet movements that speed them up or slow them down, the Ground Pounds and Spartan Charges (nice nods to stuff that we as players can do), etc. Even the time to kill was generally fine. It took Buck 2 shotgun shots to take out one of the first Elites they ran into, it took Vale (red Spartan chick) like 5 point blank pistol shots to take out one of the Elites on that Phantom, and a good number of the instant kills were on Jackals or Grunts (which any Halo player knows those guys are basically cannon fodder). I feel like the biggest thing that throws it into feeling like more is going on than really is (at least once they hit the ground), is the fact that the camera is constantly waving all around the place trying show every little cool thing it can, similar to some stuff you'd see in a Marvel movie. Because you're going between 4 different Spartans, it feels like there's just constant shit going on in one flow, but when you look at it again everybody is pretty much just jogging down a mountain, sometimes shooting things, for 70% of their time. The other 30% is when they encounter something and deal with it in admittedly extreme ways, but still relatively believable given established lore and what someone who's the best of humanity would be capable of doing. You can say that these are things that no other Spartans have been able to do, but is it really? Master Chief has taken out multiple Elite with just his hands (in Mark 4 armor of course), including a few that were using swords. And Spartan 4's might not be as augmented, but their GEN2 suits really are what make them better than Spartan 2s in Mark 4s. If I, as an average player, can take out a whole group of enemies in 5-10 seconds with a BR and some nades, I really think that four super soldiers who live and breath being bad asses are more than capable of what was pretty much a brisk morning jog. Seriously, take into consideration real life humans who can parkour seamlessly (even in areas they don't know), people with precise enough aim that they can legitimately shoot flipping coins out of the air, kung fu/karate masters who can handle fighting multiple people, base jumpers that glide through narrow mountain ranges, etc etc etc. These are all things that you can easily Google and find on YouTube, especially with stuff like Gopro cameras. As such, its totally believable that a group of 4 super soldiers who would have all these kinds of talents either themselves or provided/buffed by their equipment can do what was shown in the video. Extreme? Yes. But its not implausible just because we aren't used to seeing this kind of stuff.
the real question is who'd ever choose locke over masterchief anyways locke is lame [editline]4th September 2015[/editline] and also what are the covenant doing on an empty slope with literally nothing on it

Much like aiming a gun while calm, your accuracy turns out to be better.
People can parkour in non-threatening situations, seamlessly. Much like aiming a gun while calm, your accuracy turns out to be better.
And being trained super soldiers it would make sense that they can seamlessly parkour in combat situations.
IIRC all of that lore stuff was in Halo 3, or at least heavily implied to be. You could find stuff that revealed such information.
Actually that lore stuff came from some dude who made up a fanfic based on the Halo 3 terminals and 343i hired him. [editline]4th September 2015[/editline]
I think the issue is that the campaign really doesn't allow for coop. I imagine each member of Locke's team are distinct important characters who do their thing, and Chief is flyin' solo. Yeah I know in halo 1 and all that you just got another chief but that was also the early 2000's, i dont blame em for going for consistency. that being said, that's a sad feature to see go
But there's online co-op? [editline]4th September 2015[/editline]
We're getting a game where we get to play as both the Spartan 2s and the Spartan 4s.
We already got that. It was called Halo 4 and it wasn't that good
The best part of the "spec ops team completely and effortlessly erases honor guard of the Covenant" mantra pervading this cinema is the guy that set this up is now the lead writer on Mass Effect: Andromeda. Somewhere Karen Traviss is masturbating so hard to this her pubes are catching on fire.
Wait. Didn't the Forerunners choose humanity over the Covenant to carry the torch of sentient life? When did the Forerunners join up with the Covenant to destroy humanity?
And being trained super soldiers it would make sense that they can seamlessly parkour in combat situations.
Even the best of our best have heavily reduced accuracy in combat today; unless they have the cybernetic and psychological training that came with the Spartan 2 program they wouldn't be able to do half the shit they pull off.
Wait. Didn't the Forerunners choose humanity over the Covenant to carry the torch of sentient life?
Wait. Didn't the Forerunners choose humanity over the Covenant to carry the torch of sentient life?
There's such a difference between the Spartan 2's and the Spartan 4's, and personally I think that's great. I'm damn hyped because you know what? We're getting a game where we get to play as both the Spartan 2s and the Spartan 4s. .

We already got that. It was called Halo 4 and it wasn't that good
You know what I mean. Spartan 4s were background noise in Halo 4's campaign, they hardly did anything in comparison to the Master Chief. The most they ever did game wise was basically be beefier AI dudes sitting on my tank. I haven't played Spartan Ops yet, but I heard that it doesn't expand too much on the Spartan 4s anyways, so the point stands. Compare that to Halo 5, where we we're getting 2 groups of 4 primary characters that have an interweaving storyline directly in the main campaign. Even the most cynical person should be able to tell the differences between Halo 4 and 5, hell, they should be able to see it even easier. People like to bash Halo 4, but in my opinion it was by far the most engaging Halo story wise. Not to bash the original trilogy, but Master Chief talked and interacted with characters more in Halo 4 than he did in Halo 1-3 combined. He seemed like an actual developing character, or hurr, a human. Considering 343i's goal was to have us question his humanity (with in-game questions literally questioning that themselves, even from the first cutscene), I think they did a good enough job for their first go at the series. Even if they didn't learn anything from Halo 4, which they keep assuring us they have in all of their documentaries or blogs, I liked Halo 4 (and the Halo 5 MP Beta) enough to have faith in 343i.
Also, gameplay director of star wars republic commando I mean commando the fuck on It even has the exact same squad controls and death /revive system Not only if it's halo 5 a halo sequel but it's a SWRC spiritual successor I mean god damn fam
