• marijuana long term effects: how long does it take?

For me all it's done is effected my memory slightly. I notice i'm generally in a better mood even when i haven't smoked that day.
I smoke the marijuana everyday and I'm shooting for the Executive Officer in my Jrotc battalion and two of the most influential officers want me to get that position over the other two people going for it and they're totally clean and get better grades than I do. HA! Those squares... They're also better leaders as well.
Marijuana is actually quite good for you - fights cancer, possibly stimulates brain cell growth... it's like a vitamin. People associate cigarette smoke with marijuana smoke and assume it does damage. Cigarette smoke and marijuana smoke are quite different. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor and bronchial constrictor, which keeps all the tar (mainly from all the chemicals they add to cigarettes) in your lungs and it settles there. On the other hand, marijuana is a bronchial dilator and vasodilator, so any tar that would have been in the smoke has an easy exit, effectively delivering more air to your lungs than before you had smoked.
So does this mean that if I combine MJ with tobacco, I can eliminate/reduce tar? [editline]7th December 2010[/editline]
Shit my fears are confirmed. I thought it was all in my head. These past few months, Ive noticed that I can't really iterate shit as clearly as I used to. I thought it was all in my head. Damn. It really sucks when I'm trying to argue with someone irl and I can't fucking explain anything because I can't recall the right words and usage and shit.
This is what t-breaks were meant for.
I smoke in varying amounts, usually every day for about a week followed by a week or two of sobriety. I've been smoking for about 3 years now. The only long term effects I've really noticed is that I'm a lot calmer and not as emotional and mood-swingy as I used to be (but then again that could just be me growing up) and I cough shit up sometimes (though usually only for about a week after heavy smoking)
Also I can't seem to dream as much or remember them as well I used to
I find that after smoking heavily for a period and then stopping down to zero for a week or two, i'm very hazy and i don't concentrate well, and have huge mood-swings in and out of deep sadness and immense happiness. But it only lasts a few days to a week.

In periods when I'm smoking more, I'll have some of the effects of cannabis as a constant. Such as processing things slower and just being distracted. I'm dyslexic so I already had this problem, but it seems that smoking weed can make it worse even when I'm not high. This only lasts about for about a week or so (or at least goes back to it's normal state).
Also I can't seem to dream as much or remember them as well I used to
I've been remembering my dreams more, actually
I've been remembering my dreams more, actually
Same, they're also now more about people I actually know rather than "who the fuck are you and why are you in my dream"
My dreams have had more meaning. Unfortunately, the dream and the meaning of it usually makes me feel depressed
As with anything self control and moderation is the key.
I've noticed recently my spelling as gone to shit. I didn't notice over the summer, not having to spell or write much, but now I'm at uni and writing essays and commentaries I'll be thinking of how to spell a word for a while, not even hard words and then I'll have that sudden realisation of 'durrrrh, that's how you spell it'
Eh I did a test on myself, and for one whole trimester I smoked 3 days a week (particularly the weekends). And my average for that term was a lot higher than this term since I have stopped smoking. My point is weed makes me smarter and more productive. Also if I smoke a joint before going to class I practically always ace an quiz or test.
It is most definitely something that varies from person to person. Some people can't focus when they are high. Some people can. If I remember right I usually can't because I always go off into random directions with my thoughts. But I also have had some extraordinary moments in my thinking where I've thought at a higher level than usual.
Let me tell you this much.. I smoke a alot of weed. Even now i've cut down on what i used to smoke but i've smoked enough marijuana to coat my entire lungs with resin i'm sure. Before i started smoking weed my vocabulary was alot more (see what fucking word do i want to use!) ... better. I would use smart words, even when talking irl. I was thinking SO hard the other day to tell my mom the way she was treating me. I had the definition in my brain but not the word. I just drew blank. Finally after i was already talking to her i thought of it condescending! Like.. that's not even that fancy of a word but i couldn't get the word into my brain. This goes with lots of things i think about and sometimes when i'm in arguments with my girlfriend and she asks me a complicated question like 'so tell me what i just said' and then as soon as i think of it.. it's gone! this can be any conversation with anyone, even if i'm watching a movie and think 'wait, what just happened?' Basically the long term effects are shitty.. and it's leading to an inevitable quitting (which in my case, some people think it's hard to believe) but i know it's gotta happen sometime.. Cutting back can obviously slow down the effects but if you want a job with regular piss tests like i want, then it's obvious i've got to quit. I'm really baked and just rambled on and on
Exactly the same with me, and somehow forgetting the littlest things gets quite annoying. I remember once I wanted to look up my school schedule for the next day, so I wen't upstairs and turned my pc on and I was like 'Huh?'. The hour after that I was trying to remember why I turned it on. Argh... As if your brain takes it's own mini-breaks
Haven't smoked for ~4-5 weeks now, feeling fine. Gonna smoke again wednesday (when I turn in my project). But yeah, when I was smoking erryday I had some problems with my short-term memory and formulating thoughts in words. Mind you, that's if you smoke every day. 1 or 2 weeks after smoking, you won't have these problems. No permanent damage. When I start smoking again, I'm only going to do it at most 2-3 times a week, so I don't expect the same problems.
