Anybody in the UK who is not currently deployed, would you be able to recall stories of your time in the Army and what kind of job you did? Suddenly the army has seemed like such a great choice to make, but i want to see how many people have taken this choice but also regretted it later on.
You don't need soap.
You will become a mercenary. You will be paid to murder human beings. Think about that for a little bit.
In before "have fun killing yourself" etc. [editline]09:43PM[/editline] oh damn
Volunteering to rape the middle east seems like a sound choice
You will become a mercenary. You will be paid to murder human beings. Think about that for a little bit.
A chance to get payed for something I would do for free? I don't see the problem.
If you haven't yet, think about what it means to die. Then ask yourself if you can face that.
die for your country, but don't make your momma cry think about it
Yeah i could cope with it if it was for a good cause.
Do it through passion. Not because you have no aspirations.

How fit are you and what are your qualifcations? And how long have you been thinking about the Army? Considered Royal Navy/Royal Air Force/Royal Marines?

Have you been out there? (note: neither have I, but I have a feeling I'm more informed) Modern soldiers aren't just glorified mercenaries, Hearts and Minds was one of the main priorties of the invasion, if you don't win the people over you won't help them, they will continue to follow the radicals. So, the soldiers do a lot more than killing, builiding facilities, meeting with the locals etc is all in the average day.
Join as an Officer.
A chance to get payed for something I would do for free? I don't see the problem.
oh you're so badass
(Also, im not talking about becoming straight infantry, im thinking more along the lines of Comm's, IT, If RAF then ATC etc)

Credit passes in Mathematics, Business Management, Craft, IT and chemistry. Been thinking the past 2 months. Not really considered an exact spot yet.

Not here in Scotland. Goes Standard Grades, Intermediates, Highers and Advanced Highers.
(Also, im not talking about becoming straight infantry, im thinking more along the lines of Comm's, IT, If RAF then ATC etc)
Communications and technological expertise is completely different to regiments and ground based infantry. Depending on your chosen branch you'll experience different things; - RAF: Stuck on an intelligence aircraft if you're into comms, or you can train to be a crewman which handles remote weaponry onboard and manages safety missions and stuff like that. - RAF Regiment: You are trained how to parachute and are dropped into hostile areas such as air bases and open land to secure the area for planes and helicopters to transport infantry. You defend mostly - Navy: Mostly mechanical and lots of stuff revolves around 'using your hands'. Most jobs are working on cruisers and frigates (like mechanics), but there are also pilot jobs available. - Royal Marines: Fighting force of the Royal Navy. I am considering joining soon (upcoming 2-3 years of training as well as college) and serve in the middle east. Army I can't tell you much about because I dislike the branch. Very weak training (compared to Marines) and the pay is minimal. The fact you will be surrounded by educational rejects and chavs really puts me off.
I'm considering joining the RAF as an officer. A lot of people who I've spoken to have said that joining the armed forces was the best decision they ever made and they're never looked back.

A lot of people who I've spoken to have said that joining the armed forces was the best decision they ever made and they're never looked back.
It's generally lifelong and ambitious and you get a great pension! An officer requires longer and harder training than regular recruits (even though RAF training is pretty pathetic), mind you. It's the same with a lot of other branches. Remember you can be responsible for the lives of your troop and if the mission goes bad you're in charge.
You want to serve your country, militarily is a decent way to do it. You'll get some good training. But there's always the chance that you will die. Personally, I would never join the military. I can't stand the thought of having to kill someone, despite my affinity for firearms. All the more power to you, though, man. Might be good for you, but be careful, come back alive.

You are taken care of.

If I ever join the military, then my place would be aboard a naval vessel. In the CiC. Goddamn, I just love all the shit they got in there.

Doesn't sound like you get the best quality or quantity of gear, that seems to be changing though. Have fun living with the fear of being blown up at a roadside, if that fear didn't exist then something would fill it's place. Whether you care enough about the country or not is up to you, some do join the army with the country in mind, others not. I don't give a shit so I wouldn't be too keen to join. Healthcare and Education paid for, isn't it?
