Chances of dying are minimal - you stand a very low chance as the number of fatalities aren't massive each month. You are taken care of.
1 in 38 chance of dying
You will become a mercenary. You will be paid to murder human beings. Think about that for a little bit.
It's possible to get a job that doesn't involve touching a gun. The Army doesn't run on infantry alone, after all.
It's possible to get a job that doesn't involve touching a gun. The Army doesn't run on infantry alone, after all.
While the army has some non-combat jobs, they still learn how to shoot in basic training.
1 in 38 chance of dying
Where on earth did you get that from?
1 in 38 chance of dying
This is quite possibly the stupidest post ever made on these forums.
While the army has some non-combat jobs, they still learn how to shoot in basic training.
My point is that you don't have to run around killing people to work in the army.
I joined the US army out of high school (before the war, mind you) as a Chinese linguist, and the only thing I feel regretful about is having been a few years behind with education and having to catch up later. I also have a permanent service-connected wrist injury that affects my current field of art.
1 in 38 chance of dying
I honestly cannot believe this post Do not listen to this user
I honestly cannot believe this post Do not listen to this user
Duration of war: 7 years, 11 months Troops in theatre: 9,000 UK military fatalities: 231 http://www.casualty-monitor.org/
die for your country, but don't make your momma cry think about it
The object of war is not to die for your country. It is to make the other men die for theirs.
Anybody in the UK who is not currently deployed, would you be able to recall stories of your time in the Army and what kind of job you did? Suddenly the army has seemed like such a great choice to make, but i want to see how many people have taken this choice but also regretted it later on.
You WILL have days when you get dicked around by arrogant JNCOs or you just feel like shit in general, but just pull through them and the training will breeze by. It is quite a big decision to make, So just think about it a lot before going ahead with application, maybe even think about other forces i.e RN, RAF etc.
Why the fuck would you want to join the Army and support violence?
You're in the UK so do it. If you were in the US, I would have said that you'd probably regret it.
Sigh... All these teenagers thinking it's cool and heroic to join the army, and inevitably ending up realizing how wrong their idea of it is.
While the army has some non-combat jobs, they still learn how to shoot in basic training.
You dont even need to be in the armed forces for basic rifle training. It is even taught in cadet units and even so they get the same shooting privilages as those working in an office etc. One thing I do reccommend if joinning the army: When in a bad situation always look forward negativity never gets you anywhere in the end of the day the people around you are virtually family they keep you alive and you keep them alive thats one thing great about the armed forces: teamwork
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=698849 Give that a read. I was a soldier in the US Army National Guard, but the UK boys are going through the same shit. Might give you a different understanding of what you're getting into. It's a great experience, but you have to weigh the benefits to the potential negatives.
Congratulations. :golfclap: I salute the brave men and women who serve. :911:

Average 6 month deployment makes 15 deployments so far. Average 3/5ths Green troops per deployment. Total troops deployed: 81k Deaths through enemy fire: 200 Chance of death: 1 in 400
I think you are most suited for the Navy

Just remember these during your interview: 1) Dress smartly 2) Think of a funny joke (clean) 3) Brush up on your mental arithmetic. Army hopeful myself. Missed out on the scholarship by 2 marks (pissed!) Just keep fit and you should be fine.
:eng99:
You'd be surprised just how advanced a lot of the army is now. They might not work with computers but grunts are damn smart in the ways of tech.
my brothers in the u.s. army, just returning from his tour in iraq, he was made sgt last week actually, hes going to reinlist, and mostlikely be sent to afghanistan next, i plan on joining the usaf(airforce) personaly
I think you are most suited for the Navy
The Navy being gay is a generalization that caught on from Village People. [editline]10:18PM[/editline]
Why the fuck would you want to join the Army and support violence?
How are you supporting violence? You're supporting a country that needs help to pull itself out of a mess of a conflict. If ending the lives of those who want to cause massive fatality and want to end life in the western countries means my country is protected then I'm more than happy to do so.
I personally wouldn't join any armed service, simply because I don't want to be sent out to die for a cause I don't believe in. With the current war, my stance is that I support our troops, but not the war they're fighting. Soldiers don't pick which wars they fight, and if they weren't fighting it, I and others like myself would be sent out there. Go for it though, if that's what you want to do.
