I got blood pulled and it was the coolest thing ever to see the stuff that keeps me alive concentrated in a vial.
What happens if you get a boner after having blood drawn hmmm?
Pass out.
mhh
I don't see why you post a thread about this, I'm donating yearly, nothing to be proud of, nothing special either.
Just the mere thought of giving bl- *Thunk*

You'll feel pretty awesome if you pass out.
Also if you do it'll tell you that you're malnourished :v:
Whaaaaatt !? *psshh* i don't mind giving blood.I don't even care about the blood.It doesn't tease me.
What happens if you get a boner after having blood drawn hmmm?
Nothing unless your blood level is already unhealthily low
Look at the name of the guy who said you'll pass out
Heading off now to go donate. Downed water like a mother fucker, hope it works out. Back in two/three hours.
Why give them free blood if they're going to sell it to their patients?
That's why It's called Donating. Blood only lasts so long and and only a percentage of it makes it to actual patients. Most of it is sold to research companies or thrown away. But I can tell you from experience that those that do get to patients do save lives. (That hip surgery I was talking about, the doctor accidentally slit my femoral artery and I could have easily died from blood loss)

Please tell me you went to mexico for cheap health care?
I've given blood four times and I'm due to do it a fifth time this month, and I've never had a problem, apart from slight brusing one time. The only advice I can suggest is to drink plenty of fluids before you donate, and maybe a sugary snack before hand.
Has anyone here done platelet donations? I'm tempted to get tested to see if I'm suitable, but the nearest hospital that does the procedure is a 30 minute drive away (and I don't have a car) and apparently it takes like 90 minutes for one donation.
Please tell me you went to mexico for cheap health care?
Femoral artery damage is a risk when getting your hip replaced because of how close it is to where you are cutting. They have to use large electric saws and drills in a small compact area that has an artery running right next to it. I'm lucky he just nicked it.
first time I got a blood test the needle fell out <_>
Yeeeeeaaah so . . .
After missing two buses due to OCTranspo being total shit, I get there ten minutes late. Nobody else was scheduled for the day (Rather unfortunate) so they just walk me right in. I get to the medical counter and she takes my ID and prints me out a slip saying this and that, then swabs my middle finger in order to take the hemoglobin test. I'm already getting happy to have made it and I'm hoping things go well. So she's massaging my middle finger to draw the blood from it and . . .
. . . I . . .
. . . Fainted on the spot.
They gave me some juice and cookies and pat me on the head for trying, but said they couldn't risk actually drawing blood from me. Somehow preparing in advance caused a step back.
I'm feeling pretty dejected about this whole thing now, and I don't get why I fainted.
Wait you passed out from a pin prick? :v:
>:
Needles don't scare me. I don't faint at the sight of blood. I don't know what happened.
Who wants some O- blood, Sellin O- Blood Right here
If you're gay and you've ever had oral or anal with a man, you're not allowed to give blood - at least in the UK anyway.
If you're gay and you've ever had oral or anal with a man, you're not allowed to give blood - at least in the UK anyway.
Bugger.
If you're gay and you've ever had oral or anal with a man, you're not allowed to give blood - at least in the UK anyway.
What? Is there a reason for that? Sounds like they thing the patient is going to become gay if they get that blood.
I'm O pos so I give blood as often as I can as my local area is running low on it.
I do this frequently.
I eat normally and don't really think about it. You usually get juice or some other drinks at the blood donation spot so they've taken care of everything for you basically. You just lay back and enjoy the ride.

They never need to know.
I always donate blood whenever I can, it's the only reason I'm still here so I feel like it's the least I could do.
Thanks for trying to donate, at least. Still puts you up above most of the population that never even think about doing it considering how helpful and needed it is.
American homosexuals cant give blood , too

"You should not give blood for 12 months after sex with:
A man who has had sex with another man (if you're a female)."
Lmfao what.
someone clear this up, its bugging me cause of how dumb that is
I guess I can see why they'd say that, given that the HIV rate among gay men is so high
http://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/docs/FastFacts-MSM-FINAL508COMP.pdf
and the blood giving group obviously can't afford even one fuck-up with tainted blood
but they handle it a bit...insensitively ? Methinks so anyway.

Who say's you have to tell them?
It's a stigmatised ruling from when homosexuality was considered a "disease" that could be passed on. These days they do extensive testing on your blood, not to mention many donors may have no idea their partners may or may not of had contact with other family members.
Basically, it's completely bullshit. I can understand the medical reasons for it (AIDS, HIV, Etc) But they test your blood for that anyway.
It's a stigmatised ruling from when homosexuality was considered a "disease" that could be passed on.
That isn't it, the issue was HIV/AIDS. Back when it first came around, they thought it was a disease reserved for gays, "God's judgment against faggots" or something. The rule's stuck around because, while this is obviously not true, homosexuals do have a much, much higher risk of HIV/AIDS.

True, but we live in a society where recreational NSA sex has become almost commonplace. The NBS hasn't accepted this and as a result a great many potential donors are being left out in the cold, and many are also donating unaware or rather aware that they shouldn't.

I don't agree with the rule myself, but just saying, thats why its there.

We don't have any higher of a risk of it than anyone else
The thing is the first recorded case of the disesase happened to be from a gay guy, so naturally a higher number of homosexual men carry the disease than heterosexual men, but it's nothing to make it signifigant. I have just as much of a risk getting it or any STD (you get rejected by having any STD, not just HIV btw) by banging random guys as you do by banging random women.
