We don't have any higher of a risk of it than anyone else The thing is the first recorded case of the disesase happened to be from a gay guy, so naturally a higher number of homosexual men carry the disease than heterosexual men, but it's nothing to make it signifigant. I have just as much of a risk getting it or any STD (you get rejected by having any STD, not just HIV btw) by banging random guys as you do by banging random women.
Here they actually exclude anyone who had anal sex with anyone in the last x years, regardless of whether it was gay sex or not. (As anal sex spreads AIDS more efficiently than other forms of sex) This is excessive however, as my health district is the only one I've seen that does it like this. The official policy is just to exclude "men who have sex with men". It's why I can't donate blood, but have done it in the past. There's one lady there that knows me and doesn't care, although we're both technically breaking the law. Oddly enough, any time I've donated blood it went off without a hitch but the three times I've had it drawn for blood tests the nurse managed to get it all over my arm and, in the case of last time, the floor.
I had 2 vials of blood taken for testing a couple years back (I forgot to ask what type I was, damnit). I felt perfectly fine afterwards, turned down the biscuits and stuff like a moron, went for the door, then ended up on my knees (didn't pass out though). Ended up sat down for about half an hour while my BP recovered (it was hilariously low when they tested it)

I wana donate blood but the nearest hospital that does this kind of stuff is in St. Louis I think, about an hour drive. :ohdear:
I'm o negative too. Have thought about giving blood, but I don't think I want someone else out there with my lood being transfused into them. It just seems weird. Also a few weeks back my friends and I were all talking about this, and someone said, "Clinton can't donate blood, he might pass on his gayness." Clinton is in fact gay and he said, "Good call." As we all laughed.
I don't twice a week. It's a good feeling [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] Giving people blood [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] not the needle part [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] Im no junkie
i donate every chance i get. my school does one twice a year. i've done it 4 times so far :buddy: we get free food!
donating blood sucks, the nurses always suck with the needle and the needle itself is so fucking big it could be an elephant tranquilizer needle.
I've always wanted to donate blood, but up until recently I've been too scrawny for my height to do so safely. Bulked up, can't wait until next year to be able to save some lives.
Nice to see that your trying to help, buuuut. Its really just making the hospital a bunch more money.
I donated blood once. I got a free cookie for it.
Nice to see that your trying to help, buuuut. Its really just making the hospital a bunch more money.
you're stupid.
I had to do a research paper on giving blood, pretty fascinating really. Haven't done it myself but I'd love to. I'm not too bad with giving blood myself, had to give a few vials for an allergy test a few years ago.

I'm a bit of a pansy when it comes to needles after I had to get my large toe frozen so they jabbed two needles on either side of my big toe where the toe meets the foot, hurt more than anything in my entire life. Going to donate blood, the worst part was the tiny pin-prick at the start where they test your blood for iron levels, etc (So you aren't enemic and still try to donate). I'll do it again one day, it was a completely painless experience and the worst part of the actual donation is the boredom from just sitting for 10 minutes.
I have Hemochromatosis, so I have to donate blood every now and then to lower my Iron levels, and I've fainted (or nearly fainted) every single time :v:
Last time I donated blood I had like 2 pints of someone else's blood dumped on me

Other than the whole blood-dumped-on-me horrifying moment it wasn't that bad. It was warm adleast
Accidents happen. I would be more angry at them for ruining my clothes if anything.
Accidents happen. I would be more angry at them for ruining my clothes if anything.
Nah. I was pissed that it got in my hair and shoes more than anything. Thankfully I had decided to wear my work cloths instead of anything decent. I had to spend 5 minutes washing blood out of my hair but eh, free food was worth it.
I'm not old enough to donate yet, but I have a feeling that even if I were I wouldn't be able to donate because abnormally low blood pressure runs in the family apparently. When my mum tried to give blood they could only get about a quarter of what they needed before the vein just stopped letting out blood. When my aunt gave birth she had to have a transfusion as well for some reason.
I donate blood pretty regularly; there's a van that comes out to my school every three months for a day or two and they take donations from a bunch of students and staff. I think I've had it about four times now; I missed out a couple because I didn't realise it was on or I couldn't afford the time, but it's a worthwhile cause. O+ here. I've never had issues with the nurse taking my blood, but one of my friends had his nurse apparently try and take a nerve tissue donation from him. He couldn't use his arm for the rest of the day thanks to that little fuck-up, and now he's understandably apprehensive about ever trying to give blood again.
Yeeeeeaaah so . . . After missing two buses due to OCTranspo being total shit, I get there ten minutes late. Nobody else was scheduled for the day (Rather unfortunate) so they just walk me right in. I get to the medical counter and she takes my ID and prints me out a slip saying this and that, then swabs my middle finger in order to take the hemoglobin test. I'm already getting happy to have made it and I'm hoping things go well. So she's massaging my middle finger to draw the blood from it and . . . . . . I . . . . . . Fainted on the spot. They gave me some juice and cookies and pat me on the head for trying, but said they couldn't risk actually drawing blood from me. Somehow preparing in advance caused a step back. I'm feeling pretty dejected about this whole thing now, and I don't get why I fainted.
Atleast you had the good will to actually go, and try to donate blood. You've shown you care for other people and you have good morals, in the end, I guess that's all that matters. You tried.
I'm pretty much useless though considering I have AB+ blood.
Last time I donated blood I had like 2 pints of someone else's blood dumped on me
That's a massive health hazard and you likely could have sued the shit out of the hospital for it.
http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/BloodBloodProducts/QuestionsaboutBlood/ucm108186.htm Bitches don't want my blood because if I'm gay, I must have HIV. [editline]10th June 2011[/editline] Oh, I'm late.
Iron. eat lots of. Drink juice, but dont over do it :v:
They won't take my "fag" blood :c
I too want to donate blood. I'm just afraid of the nurses fucking up and me fainting.
