• Gonna Go Donate Blood

I think i've donated 5 times, I need to go again though, I haven't in 6 months. I want to do platelets next time, apparently you feel better after because they pump you full of fluids as you donate. Also the church I usually donate at gives us pizza so it's all cool
Oh and in the UK they don't care about your sexuality so long as you haven't fucked anyone in the ass since the 70s. Which is marginally better than the US but still pretty discriminatory.
I've also donated a few times, not that special really, go in and they force you to drink some OJ and eat some crisps/biscuits, do a quick iron test (which I passed with flying colours because I eat live twice a week), lie on a bed, needle gets stuck into your arm (it took them a while to find mine, but the first prick got it) then watch TV for 10 minutes, finish up with some more forced juice and biscuits and jobs a good'un. Doesn't hurt just feels like pressure in your arm, a bit strange but easily gotten used to and forgotten after 30 seconds. I'm going to donate platelets in a while too, like donating blood you're hooked up to a merry-go-round for two hours. It's also not discriminatory, they're not just doing it because you like the penis, it's a safety precaution because homosexual sex (that is between men) is one of, if not the highest risk type of sexual intercourse for STIs.
They won't take my "fag" blood :c
I would [img]http://www.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img]
this is incorrect. in the uk, any male who has engaged in sex with a man (including oral) with or without protection cannot give blood ever.
Correct.
I would donate but i'm only 155 cm tall and weigh 34 kilos :saddowns:
i donated some blood when i broke my arm once :unsmith:
Draining like 1 litre of blood from me would make me pass out already most likely - not worth it. My automerge :argh: Edit: http://www.blutspende-nstob.de/spenderinformationen/persoenliche_voraussetzungen.php ^ In germany, they require you to weigh above or equal to 50 kilo to be able to donate blood
They won't take my "fag" blood :c
wait. they really still deny blood donations from homosexuals?
wait. they really still deny blood donations from homosexuals?
To reduce the chance of getting infected blood.
To reduce the chance of getting infected blood.
well don't they test all the blood?
well don't they test all the blood?
They do, but I assume it's a time or money issue when testing, they'd rather have a higher chance of having clean blood.
I would donate but i'm only 155 cm tall and weigh 34 kilos :saddowns:
What the fucking shit Unless you're a 12 year old girl you should be dead [editline]11th June 2011[/editline]
They do, but I assume it's a time or money issue when testing, they'd rather have a higher chance of having clean blood.
All blood is tested anyway and there is no proof that allowing gay people to donate blood would increase the chances of having HIV-infected blood enter the system. There are countries that allow anyone to donate blood and there is no epidemic of HIV there. There's no logical reason for it, but it's their loss.
They do, but I assume it's a time or money issue when testing, they'd rather have a higher chance of having clean blood.
If he's gay, he has hiv. Stereotyping much? I think more straights have hiv than gays anyway.
If he's gay, he has hiv. Stereotyping much? I think more straights have hiv than gays anyway.

In the United States, the group with the highest rate of HIV infection is men who have sex with men (CDC, 2005). This group has the highest rates of unprotected anal sex, which is a behavioral risk factor for HIV transmission. In most regions of the world, however, the group with the highest rates of HIV is people who have heterosexual intercourse.
So partially right, but most countries follow the US.
do you have to be a certain age to donate blood in the UK?
do you have to be a certain age to donate blood in the UK?
Yes. I think it's 17+

I had my first donation back in april, I felt fine, although my blood isn't very useful, since i'm A+. I'll still donate in the future though.

My blood type is A-, which is apparently rare. Since blood doesn't last forever, I'm not sure if I should definitely donate blood because it's a rare blood group, or never bother because it won't last long enough for someone who needs it to get it.
I've got AB-, considering how rare it is, ive given blood about 5 times.
A person I know died from blood loss because they couldn't find the same blood type he had. I don't remember which type it was though.
I've got AB-, considering how rare it is, ive given blood about 5 times.
Woah, 17% of AB types (which makes up 4% of the general population). Makes my 7% look common.
Damn, I want to give blood, but I dont know my own blood type. And I'm underage :v:
bring this when you go donate next time:
The red cross frequently comes to our school to pump out the young healthy specimens - and most of us do it, because it's a legal way of skipping useless classes and getting free cookies and OJ/Soda. It's funny how they set up the entire thing in the main welcome room, turn it into a mini hospital with blood getting sucked out everywhere - and you see all that on your way to IT class :v: Some pussy out though, but strangely all the programmers go and donate, and all the web designer types stay put and whimper. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] Oh, and I have blood type A - they frequently urge me to go give it, and it's strange when you have hot nurses chasing after your blood, to say the least.
