Its completely legal for them to ask this. In fact this just pisses me off...
it's legal to have to drive through and be confronted by federal agents far from any national border? and that they have the legal right to search your vehicle without a warrant without a probable cause except for checking to make sure you aren't carrying fruit? you do not deserve the rights you hold, please actually break the law so you can have them taken away from you as opposed to people like these who have done nothing wrong yet are still having their rights infringed upon
I am in no means for this, I'm simply curious. What is the difference between this kind of check point and let's say a drunk driving check point? Do the police for a booze check point have kind of a general warrant to ask you questions / test you / search the car?
idk if it's the same in every state(prolly is), but while driving you have what's called "implied consent" regarding sobriety tests. the police can ask you at any time for any reason to conduct a sobriety test or a breathalyzer. refusal to comply with this in my state is grounds for getting your license suspended immediately.
Its completely legal for them to ask this. In fact this just pisses me off...
No, you're right, it's totally legal for them to ask it. And it's totally legal to refuse to answer. And to question if you're being detained which would need reasonable cause for breaking a law. A agent/cop's word is not law. It cannot infringe upon your constitutional/bill-of/state/city/county rights. Refusing to answer questions from the government-equivalent of rent-a-cops during interstate traffic about citizenship is legal. There's no probable cause; so detainment and searches (without warrant) are actually illegal. They can also legally ask to check your vehicle. And you can decline it. This happens anywhere too; if you're pulled over for speeding and don't reek of weed, alcohol, or a monitored/illegal substance; they have no right to search your vehicle without a warrant or your consent. Ignorance of your rights is more offensive than people being slightly obnoxious, but well founded in knowing and promoting theirs.
Seems to me that the questions some of them are refusing to answer are kinda fuckin' stupid? Are you an U.S. citizen? AM I BEING DETAINED? AM I BEING DETAINED? AM I BEING DETAINED? Dimwit, if you said yes, you would be free to go on your way because, well, then those rights do apply to you and you can be an arrogant ass all you want. If no, then hey, what do you know, the checkpoints work! [editline]8th March 2013[/editline] And if this is the list of 'top' US checkpoint refusals, then I feel bad for the checkpoint-refusal people. These all sucked. AM I BEING DETAINED?! Try a lil' bit of not being an asscunt. Chances are, those DHS agents think this sucks, too. At least be nice to them the first few times they ask stupid questions. If they keep on, sure, get annoyed, but Jesus fuck you're comming off as a cunt.

These aren't in the Southern border of Texas and California. You're suppose to be able to drive freely between states and not be treated as suspect to anything. There was never anything like this a few years ago, at least in Texas or on the East Coast. Most of them seem to be near New Mexico/Arizona from what I see. Much like the last example in the video - that agent obviously understood the man in the car knew his rights and didn't want to deal with it. The other ones were either following orders to be difficult or to absolutely search people; or had some sort of power issue.
Is this the same fuck with the lisp that walks around with an open carry rifle in order to incite a reaction from the police?
These guys have a point but their just wasting everybody's time and making the border patrol officers job way more difficult then its supposed to be.
