What if someone likes everyone on their friends list so they get notified if anyone likes them back?
Thanks for the idea.
You stole my idea I am obliged to sue you.

If you did that, there's a safe guard where you're going to either silently never ever learn about any likes, or you're just banned from the app without knowing it.
Thanks for the idea.
The time-release algorithm would probably equate to you learning about someone liking you 15 years after you liked them since the duration before notification increased based on your friends list size and how many people you liked.
This is pretty cool, if people start using it I definetly will too.

Dammit, my plan is ruined!
Working on Rank right now. Database code.
Seeing as about 94% of Facepunch is single, it'd have been more efficient to post this on twitter.
it lets you go past the last set of friends to load a blank page... please fix, looks bad

can i like people not on my friends list? voyeurism ++;

do what zuck did and use an elo
I always think people are joking with that and I just say "okay" or "cool" :saddowns:
Same. My dad said I'm not bad looking (not in a creepy way) but I always brush it off saying that he's just saying that because he's my dad. Then one time when I was going clubbing a friend told me just be confident since I look fine, but I thought that was just a way to boost my confidence artificially. Then one of my bi-friends told me that I really shouldn't have any problem attracting someone if I could raise my confidence.
The thing is, since middle school I've been drilling it into my head that I'm not attractive, that I'm not special in anyway, that Asian is not the norm and that because of this unlucky circumstance I've been born into I can never attract an attractive girl.
Ugh, whatever, I've pretty much set it in my mind that I'll never have anyone outside my family that'd I could truly love and care about, and who would love me in return.

Shit this is like the valentine's day thread all over again.
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
So looker works outside your friends list? I guess it makes sense, but could you clarify it?

I can't do anything about the last page bug without a DOM element hack (mainly because I'm not sending JSON like I SHOULD), but I think I'll go with that for now as a resolution.
In the future I'll expand the flexibility to not be restricted to your interested in status.
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
In the future, I'll allow you to like people not on your friends list as well. I'm working on Rate as we speak. http://labs.andrewmcwatters.com/looker/rate/
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
I know it's not the best design or whatever, but give me a break, things will improve as we go. I just want to get this thing to work.

well, its just you need it to work and look good(fine in this aspect atm) asap, or it will have virtually no chance of getting a large user base.

"one of you is randomly chosen to be informed." also, this creates an awkward situation
"one of you is randomly chosen to be informed." also, this creates an awkward situation
No it doesn't, because you won't know who's chosen to be informed obviously, and if you both knew at the same time, why would you use the app in the first place? You could just walk up to a girl and say you like her.
:ms:
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
Also Rate is nearly done.

i mean it makes it awkward for the person clicking the image. The chance that they never know even if the other person likes them... have one user have an increased wait or something... idk
Only one of my friends is in the lists on the site. Is this a glitch?

Good point, I'll think about it and reevaluate the concept in this context.
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
Only one of my friends is in the lists on the site. Is this a glitch?
For Rate? No. You rate one randomly chosen person at a time. You're thinking about Interested: http://labs.andrewmcwatters.com/looker/interested/
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
Rate isn't finished yet though. I'm still testing it.
Oh, I was on the Rate page clicking a picture a bunch of times trying to see what would happen.
[editline].[/editline]
Is it possible to make the Rate page similar to the Interested page? It's usually a hassle to keep clicking skip friend but if you don't want to change it that's fine.

No, I did mean interested. Only one friend was showing up.

Ah, well the only reason I don't want to do this is because of two things:
1. If I do this, to standardize the changes, I'd have to make it so you can toggle views on all the apps.
2. Keeping it this way differentiates better other than just functionality and the title.
If I was any faster, I would, but it can't happen right now. I'm really sorry.
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
No, I did mean interested. Only one friend was showing up.
That would mean that out of your entire friends list, you have one individual who has either:
The gender of your related preference,
or
They're the only one who's shared their sex.
To be honest, it sounds like a really weird bug, and I don't know what's up.

Well that solves it.
Because I haven't actually set my preferred gender, it only shows people who haven't chosen a gender. Might want to add a clause for that and just show everybody.

Snap! You helped so much just saying that dude, sorry for the bug man! I'm gonna fix it right this instant.
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
Try it now?
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
// Undisclosed
if (sizeof($interested_in) < 1) $interested_in_query = '';
// Bisexuals
if (sizeof($interested_in) > 1) $interested_in_query = '';
:v:
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
Whoops.
$interested_in_query = '';
if (sizeof($interested_in) == 1) $interested_in_query = ' and sex="' . $interested_in[0] . '"';
php isn't my strongest language as you can see.
Hahahaha. Yeah, uh, looker doesn't filter family dude. That's not public API data.
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
[sp]You can like your sister.[/sp]
[editline]1st March 2011[/editline]
I remembered that I can fetch family data with permission from the end-user, so I'll fix that.
Although this seems very obvious and practical, the problem I see with that is how some people add friends as fake siblings on facebook.

Thanks for bringing that up. That settles that, incest is in people.

Rate is nearly done.
http://labs.andrewmcwatters.com/looker/rate/ Is up and running now. You can now rate your friends.

I'm liking it, but the thumbs seem somewhat ambiguous.
Also, might it be possible to clip profile pictures to squares, similar to how facebook does?
You could like everyone and see who likes you back.
I've been told I'm cute or I look like a teddy bear and I just don't believe it. I can't bring myself to believe it :frown:
I have man boobs, there is now way to believe for me.
Forever alone...
I don't really like the idea of rating someone based on how hot they are.
I don't really like the idea of rating someone based on how hot they are.
I don't either, and I'm writing the app. The only one I care about is Interested, but I'm adding these ones in.
Also, the leaderboard code for Rate will be done by today. I'm thinking that you won't get put up on the leaderboards until you're rated by at least three people.
Sound good? That's because I don't want you rating someone and they instantly know where they are on the leaderboard because of your one rating, if that makes sense.
Sounds good, gives person certain average before they are on the leaderboard. Pretty cool.
I'd like some feedback if you don't mind, stuff like this:
I'm liking it, but the thumbs seem somewhat ambiguous.
Also, might it be possible to clip profile pictures to squares, similar to how facebook does?
The thumbs ARE ambiguous, the only thing that makes this work is the context that you understand it's a hot or not thing without using the actual words.
Should I just replace the buttons with hot or not? What should I use as an indicator for you uprating someone? Downrating?
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
There are currently 96 crushes registered in Interested. 69 People have been rated in Rate.
There is currently absolutely no code implemented to post anything to anyone's wall, which I need to implement today. So spreading the word is all on you guys right now if you really like it or not.
Also thanks to everyone who's used the app or liked it so far.
do what zuck did and use an elo
I breezed past this post, because I thought it was just funny. I'll actually be using this equation as a result of careful consideration and rethinking my approach.
"Blah blah blah, Andrew. Show us something cool, Andrew."

Just make the thumbs smaller and color them green and red. Make them about 100x100px or something.
