I'm going to make those user interface tweaks for sure.
Also would it be possible to add a function to rate random people others have rated, even though they aren't in your friends? Would be lovely to see it prioritize people who were rated but not by enough people to land on the leader board. This way you wont be limited to only your friends being able to rate your friends and leader board will be more populated, more accurate and grow faster.
Once this goes viral, and everyone on earth has liked someone, the creator will probably sabotage the whole thing and make it reveal openly on everyone's friend's walls who they like.

I'll do it. Nice suggestion!

I greatly value people's privacy. You have my word I will NEVER do anything to make users feel vulnerable with this application. I'm trying my best to balance social situations and interactions with this application, so I'm always taking suggestions, but I'd never violate trust between me and my users.
I love my early adopters. You guys are the ones bringing this app to life, I'm just writing the code.

Just liked looker. It's nice to see someone chasing their dream. Good luck.

Thank you so much! I'm surprised, I don't think it's ever gotten likes this fast, since I've gotten home from college, it's gotten like 2 or 3 in just a couple hours. However, I haven't been monitoring it as closely before. I'm just doing bug testing right now is why.
That "Interested" thing is genius, only problem is, eventually someone will come along and hit "interested" to his/her entire friends list, to see who likes him/her.
Just telling you guys now, further down in development there WILL be a mobile version for iOS.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
We hit 100 individuals liked on Interested! Also the 100 mark busted for Rate, we're at 133 rated people.

I noticed there's a donation button on your site, as soon as I have some spare money to donate I'll send it your way. I'm horrifyingly impoverished at the moment due to taking a trip to montreal canada near the end of this month which was far more costly than I would've liked, but when I have some money I'll definitely pass it your way. I hope you can make an actual living doing the things you love.

I've been rating a lot of people, so I can account for about 10% of that or so!
Thanks so much Rye! :h:
I was thinking about having a donor's list to honor the people supporting the project.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Do you think that would be acceptable? I mean people can be anonymous donors, too. Or just not disclose information at all if they wish.
I think I found a slight fix for the "mass interested-ing" problem. Give people a warning after they click on the person.
For example "Are you sure you want to be interested in this person? Once you click yes, you cannot go back, and if the other person is interested in you, he/she will be notified".
This should prevent the harmlessly curious people from "mass interested-ing".
Also, make it so that they can't un-interested the person.
Another thing, the design is too easy right now, it's really easy to click on everyone in your friends list.

[i]Interest[/i]ing suggestion. But what if you lose interest in someone? I like the warning bit though. I think that's absolutely needed.

Yeah, you bring up a good point, maybe if you set a time limit, a week or so, that should prevent the people that aren't interesting from clicking the people, and you aren't likely to lose interest in someone in a week.
Maybe you should just have a hidden thing, that if greater than, say 50% of the possible selections on the friends list are marked, then don't count any of them?
Rate seems to be bringing up the same people for me to rate (almost all of the same people) after I skip them.

I'm working on an algorithm which does this basically:

I've been alerted of this and am working on a solution as we speak.
Does the other person get a notification if they've been rated?
I was just using Rate and the only real problem I found was that some friends show up too many times.
[editline].[/editline]
Oh, this was already posted. It happens even if you rate someone too.
Gonna change that, one moment. Just taking care of some Brohoster stuff.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Tell me if the issue went away.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
It's still happening in certain circumstances, so I'll change up how the random generation is done when I can. Do you think I should fix this first, or write the code for the leaderboards now, additionally, I have to change the icons for Rate as I've planned.
The icons will use Hot or Not beside the same thumbs up thumbs down icons, but smaller and inline with the words. Is this fine? I'm also going to move the Skip Friend to under the thumbs down for faster access, because I don't like moving down the inch or so to click it, so I rate people down instead. What do you think about that?
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
[QUOTE=Faren;28390895]Does the other person get a notification if they've been rated?[/QUOTE]
Not yet, I'm thinking about having that done. Since they won't see themselves on the leaderboard until they have about three ratings, it shouldn't be a problem. Right?
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
All ratings were just dropped, sorry folks. I had to fix a really awful issue with early Rate testing, and I'm just learning MySQL as I go.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Hokay, there's an issue when someone doesn't have a rating it APPEARS like they're rated down. Gonna fix.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Wow, I've made things a billion times worse. Still trying to fix.

so thats why i was getting errors on load lol
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
and could you have it have the next person loaded in a queue, it would make it alot more streamlined
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
is there a reason for the parentheses after the name? will it eventually give current point value or something?

Fixed! Removing debug junk.
what language is the server side in?

Fixed :v:
Also, you need to find a way to spread this app. Due to it's anonymity it might be hard, but getting it out and making it popular with young adults, somehow, should make it spread like cancer.

How should we do this? Also I'm gonna implement posts to friends' walls soon.

I was thinking about shouting stuff out at my student union at college.
I don't think that would work.
I was also thinking about spending $50 for 10 $5 "beta testers".
I'm desperate to save up money right now.
As you can see, I'm can't think of many possibilities.

Alot of people on facepunch are probably willing to beta test for free, myself included.
It's an open beta, that's why I said "beta testers".

More issues with Rate, trying to avoid some duplicate entries into the database, that's why there are no confirmations when you rate someone, but it SEEMINGLY looks like you rated them.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Okay, so that's the last of the internal bugs. I think everything on the back end is fixed. It's just a matter of sprucing up the front end.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
[code]$me['name'] . ' has rated you by attractiveness on the Rate app on Looker!'[/code]
This posts to a friend's wall when you rate right now, I'll make it toggleable. My ex just IM'd me after I tested it on her.
We haven't spoken since I was in high school.
