I don't use FB very much but this is a neaty idea. Yeah; I was wondering how you would counter act people 'checking' to see if someone liked them by simply saying you liked them first. Hmm. Perhaps you could ALWAYS alert the FIRST person to do the 'like'; and they can then opt to let the other person know about the mutual like a few days later. This may solve the 'Im just checking to see if he/she likes me' problem. By making it so only the first person gets notified first; the person doing a 'check' does not get told about a possible mutual like until the first person has been told first (and they can decide if it should be forwarded?). I dunno...
I'm trying to think of a good algorithm that's mainly mathematically based to determine the liklihood of someone being notified and when. It would be a series of equations. I'm not a mathematician, so it's a bit difficult.
PS: I haven't looked at the site much, but don't forget to take into account someone's sexual orientation (ie, a guy would want to see his guy facebook friends - not girls).
It does this dynamically. [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline]
[...] Unsure why this is happening, both on FF and Chrome.
That's the buggiest part of the layout. It's changing the position of the icons when the elements are resized. It's not a great solution, and there are better more standardized ways to do this with HTML structure. I was lazy and tried to do it with jQuery. I'll remove the code related here soon.
I'll be sure to forward the site to my friends. It's a great concept. Edit 1: Question was already answered. When they Like the first person after they enter the site, put up like a funny "Terms of Agreement" where you act all serious about the "Just checking" dilemma Edit 2: Would be awesome if you could make it so you could hide certain persons, or block out relatives.

I can't think of a good way to get round the potential "just checking" problem. That way it should be fairly obvious, if someone's liked you, there's clearly a reason they picked you over someone else.

I can't think of why you'd want to check if more than 10 people were interested in you. I mean, you've gotta be around a lot o' chicks for something like that. I'm not. :frown: [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] You can all be mad now. I just emptied the whole rate table. :/ Sorry folks. I need a way to get the word out, so automated friend wall posts should help me out. I know it seems REALLY douchey, but I couldn't think of a better solution.

I'm testing Rate right now, it's ABOUT TO GO LIVE. [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] EVERYTHING WORKS FOR RATE.
Are you going to get this to Reddit soon? When you do, give us the link so we can rate it up.
Can one of you guys do it? http://labs.andrewmcwatters.com/looker/rate/ or http://labs.andrewmcwatters.com/looker/ is fine. Preferably the first, as the whole range of looker apps aren't done.
Pretty cool idea, I'll post it to my wall. See if anyone likes the idea. Err, once it's out of beta.
Just post the rate link now. I want the thing to get some attention. It works, too.
On the rate friends does the "post on friends wall on rate" actually work? because then im pretty fucked
Yep.
Strange, nothing seems to have appeared from what i can see. Neither on their wall or mine. Edit: Guardian angel id say
Strange, nothing seems to have appeared from what i can see. Neither on their wall or mine.
I think I know why, I'm going to check. [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] Nope nevermind. I don't know why that's happening to you if it's enabled. [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] Do you guys think I'm being impatient to say that I really want the leaderboards to fill up quick? [editline]3rd March 2011[/editline] I mean you do need THREE votes. So. Yeah.
I moved down the requirement to be posted to just two ratings. Even still there's no one on the leaderboard. Like I said, maybe I'm impatient.
Accidentally had posting to walls selected. So glad it didn't post it... [editline]4th March 2011[/editline] Do ratings from one person stack?
Make it so when rating you can click "Friends" And you can only rate friends, and "Global" So you can rate anyone that has already been rated like i suggested before. Same with leaderboards, make it so default it only shows your friends leaderboard, and so you can switch to a global if you want to. I don't see how this works atm, i can only rate my friends but see global leaderboard only.
void, I rated my hot friend "hot" twice, she's not on the leaderboards and she got no message on her wall, so maybe something is wrong.
Different people that i don't know are showing up on leaderboards, but i cant rate them. And most of them have 0% votes
I can't get it to work at all. It's just doing the weird thing where the arrows scrunch up and become unclickable.
I can't get it to work at all. It's just doing the weird thing where the arrows scrunch up and become unclickable.
I'll try my best to fix that, sorry for the troubles man! :ohdear:
Heh, he won't be needing donations much anymore. I just bought him the netbook he wanted. [sp]he works for brohoster[/sp]
I'll try my best to fix that, sorry for the troubles man! :ohdear:
S'alright, rate hasn't worked for me yet, though 'interested' seems to work just fine, even though you say it hasn't gone live yet :v:
Different people that i don't know are showing up on leaderboards, but i cant rate them. Just pointing this out, but it's a little awkward when two people with "tall" profile pictures use rate.
So I'm gonna launch a Digg article here in a bit, can people provide me with some input on what it should say? This is the description right now, but I haven't posted it yet:
A single undergrad from the Facepunch community has written a Facebook app to rate your friends by attractiveness. He's claimed to have done it out of loneliness, and designed the app and coded the back-end in less than a week. The encompassing application, "Looker" has three apps in, it all uncreatively named: "Interested", which allows you to find out who's interested in you based on a mutual "liking" of a person on the app. That is, no one will know you like them, unless they like you back. Furthermore, Interested doesn't tell both of you or instantly. It's designed to only tell one of you when both of you have liked each other, so one of you will have to break the ice, and you won't instantly find out either, which was done to prevent abuse. Unfortunately, this and the second app, the "Compare" app which allows you to compare two friends and pick the hotter of the two (Facemash anyone?), are not live, though the former app isn't even designed yet. "Rate" is the one out of the three apps which is done, however, and it already has a number of people on it's leaderboard, a platform that shows you the hottest rated individuals, which may include your closest friends, and most distant strangers.
[editline]4th March 2011[/editline]
Just pointing this out, but it's a little awkward when two people with "tall" profile pictures use rate. That's one idea I can think of instantly.

It makes the text awkward looking. I was thinking something more like this?
That's an interesting idea.
