So long as we get the see the London Apocolympics, I don't care.
All going well, the Earth will end in something like 6 billion years, when it's swallowed by the aging, expanding sun. Humanity will have died out long before that occurs, though. I'm not normally one for waving theories and speculation around, but I think the Doomsday theory holds water; we will become so powerful, we will end up blowing eachother to smithereens.
I know, but the end of the Mayan calendar is in 2012, so that is their prediction.
I never understood that logic. Did anyone stop to think they decided to just stop making a calendar? I mean it went hundreds of years into the future. Not very useful to them at that point.
Or y'know, the whole being dead part. I'd imagine that'd get in the way of continuing the calendar.
I'm betting on the Grey Blob (or something to that effect) scenario.
Baisically, when we finally get around to making self-sufficient nano-machines they'll just eat everything up to make more nano-machines, and, once they've eaten everything they can, there'll just be a big blob of nano-machines floating through space.
It's quite unlikely. Even assuming I'm still alive by the time we create technology sophisticated enough seems like a bit of a leap. Still, science marches onwards at all times.

You know the Mayans didn't predict shit right and it's just the end of an age for them if they were still alive?
Sucks to think that some random space shit could happen at anytime and fuck us up.

Eh, the world's been about for a long time. Humans can survive anything that wouldn't kill the gods themselves, i.e. a shitload of stuff.
The chances are we will destroy the world. Though we probably won't end it completely, just change it drastically for the worse.
Either through nuclear warfare in the somewhat near future or by completely depleting it of its resources.

Complete depletion seems unlikely. As greedy as the oil barons are, they will change to other fuels once the last drop used, no doubt jacking up the prices beforehand. But by the time we've run out, we may very well be doing mining operations on other planets.
I honestly fear that at some point in the future we will run out of resources completely and we won't have some efficient way to travel far in space to mine planets or have some great renewable sources. Then we will just slowly die out. The current movement (maybe not that strong as I think it is) to stop nuclear energy also worries me.

The problem is we need fuel to build the new infrastucture for new energy sources. The longer we wait, the more difficult it will be to start using other energy sources.
Not to mention one other thing we're running out of with our growing population - land.

I guess, but it would seem people are becoming more and more aware with each passing day of our energy crisis. I'm hoping someone in power will seriously want to change our dependancy on non-renewable energy rather than just doing it for the PR. At that point, we can move on to the population issue and ways to solve it, and since it doesn't seem to be as emergent as the energy crisis, we can then get going on our space exploration efforts. If we can focus our efforts on that, we'll be in space before we know it.
If anything kills off humanity it's going to be ourselves, and I think the past couple of decades and next century or so is the only time we'll have the ability to do it before we become too spread out amongst other planets for it to be feasible.

I think if it's anything that's going to kill humanity, it's humans. Although maybe we won't bomb each other into non-existance long enough to make it out of this planet and colonize the other planets, and then get out of our solar system.

Man have you read too much RPS or something, you write posts like they write articles.

Running out of land ? Do you have any idea how much free space there is for people to live on, russia is something like 10 people per square km and sweden is 20.

And when the weather warms up a bit, maybe Siberia. That's a huge wintery wasteland we could be living in.
Will it end in 2012 like the Mayans predicted?
The Mayans predicted shit about the world ending in 2012, it's just that the particular mayan calendar ends in 2012 and, funnily enough, a new one starts, just like how the world doesn't end every new years eve, sure, that year ends, but we just begin another one.
in 5 minutes
Shit, I haven't obtained Jensen's Tenchcoat yet.
Just ten more minutes, damn it!
Honestly, why should we care/worry about that? It is going to happen, someday, and there is NOTHING we can do about it.
Why does it matter to know how the earth will get buttfucked? It will surely not make my day brighter to know that, so let's just stop bothering.

I don't entirely know what that means but okay
I feel very strongly that we will die in nuclear hellfire around 2040, as that's when we get the first oil shortages, clean water is the most scarce, natural gas become harder to extract, helium supplies run out, and that sort of thing. Everything bad, resource-wise, seems to converge around that time, and I'll be damned if the world powers are just going to let themselves die off and not try to take the last reserves or anything.
I mean, I'm paranoid over nuclear war anyhow, since it really could happen at any time. A simple mistake, and our relations break down with Russia or China, and boom. And then there's always WWII, with China/Russia and NATO, over the economic superiority and Chinese expansion issue, which will come to a head in 2025-2035. And who knows how that will play out, if at all.
Yea, I think it's most likely we kill ourselves, if not starve ourselves, if not some random gamma ray burst or something.
Unfortunately for me, I've moved from a rural area to a small town bordering one of the most populous cities in Michigan, which itself borders Detroit, a target in a nuclear war, and even if I did survive, I'd have to deal with Detroit refugees.
I call zombie apocalypse
Honestly, zombies taking over the world is overhyped, it would be way too easy to kill all of them before they could do any real damage to a country.

World War 3 is 2036.

Ignoring that China isn't about to nuke someone who buys all their shit.
