You're getting confused here. If they have a slight cosmetic defect yet are otherwise fully functional, they aren't the topic of this thread. They're perfectly fine and will just have to face this adversity in their life, just like we all have a certain degree of adversity to face.
However, we're talking about people who are born without a functioning brain or lung and absolutely would die if they weren't hooked up to multiple machines 24 hours of the day. That is not a life anyone would want to live. I've been in a nursing home before, helping my sister, spending time with the elderly and giving them a bit of company, and on average, no-one there really wants to live. There's the occasional person who can actually walk and who tries to remain optimistic, but it's mostly just full of people who would much rather not exist than suffer so greatly.
It's pretty much the same for babies, except they don't even know the difference because they aren't conscious, thinking beings, and they don't know what it's like to live anyway, so they're not yet qualified to make that decision for themselves, especially when the result of the decision to keep them alive is a tremendous burden on many people who probably really don't need such a thing in their lives.
Here's my quick and simple opinion: If they can work and/or pull their own weight in the world, let them live, if not, they're a waste of carbon and should be put down.
I don't care if the person doesn't have any physical or mental problems, if he just leeches from the rest of us he deserves it.

My only opinion on this issue is that I find it incredibly annoying when they try to pretend like mentally handicapped people are just like everyone else. They keep them in school usually a few years after they should graduate and they never end up doing anything beyond what they did in the 2nd grade.
Im of the opinion that it is mans mind that makes him man, when thats altered in such a way they really aren't fully human as far as I'm concerned.
