If I had a baby that was like Juliana, I would get an abortion before she was born. She can't do anything; she is just a shell of a deformed body. I would rather kill it than have it subject to many years of pain, suffering, and being unable to think.
It is my greatest fear that my babies might be born deformed (physically is okay, they will have to suffer emotionally and possibly physically, but they can still understand why they feel the pain and make their own choices). I plan to have many children, and I'm hoping, just hoping so hard, that they won't be retarded.
Oh geez now I feel so bad. Also I called the metaphorical retarded baby it because it could be a boy or a girl. Not because deformed people don't deserve to b-oh I feel so bad.
I agree with the OP here, but, to be honest the amount of money used to take care of these kinds of "people" is far less than what's being used by governments to say, go to war etc. Whether you agree with the war (assuming an American reader) or not, the fact is you're not going to be taxed any more or less because of this. These children aren't leeching so much out of national reserve funds that it's effecting our roads, schools, etc. If this was that large of a matter it would have been reported on by now.

/my heartless rant
Fixed by me for my vision of the world.
As much as the Op's and most of the poster's points are valid, imagine being in that situation. You have been waiting 9 months for a child, and when that child finally comes it has a horrible deformity, and with maternal instincts and what not it would be so hard. I'd like to think I would have the strength to say "This is not a life worth living" But you have to admit, saying "okay then, kill my child" must be one of the hardest things anyone could do.
Why don't we just start executing retarded people while we're at it.
Fucking stupid parents :saddowns:
Fucking stupid parents :saddowns:
Again, i'm sure some parents almost get trapped, knowing that there child will never lead a normal life, but not having the strength early on to admit it and take action on it.

I'm sorry but that's just hilarious.
People say that I'm sick because If I had a child and it had a serious birth defect / downs , I would terminate it.
Why the fuck not? It's not going to live a happy and fulfilled life , it's going to get the piss ripped out of it and it'd want to kill it self at some point.
So fuck you , people who say that I'm sick because if I had a child and it had a serious birth defect / downs , I would terminate it.
But evolution also says we need to look out for each other, and it is a base instinct for a mother to do anything for their offspring.
No it doesn't. Evolution, if it can be said to say anything, is about the successful genes passing on, i.e. survival of the fittest. Helping the weak =/= survival of the fittest.

Is it me or does it look like she has a cock on her head?

The definition of 'weak' has changed. Evolution says the wrong survive, but in this society strong can mean anything, as it should. Strong can be your connections with society and ect.
Btw: I just recalled: if you lot are so worried about them adding to the 'gene pool' theres no reason, because if the 'vegetable' as you say should die, they'd never get the chance to pass their genes on anyway.

Yeah, you're right, save it the trouble of pain. Hell, lets just terminate the children of Africa so they don't have to live in a hell-zone. Lets go back in time and terminate the Jews in Europe so they don't have to live through the holocaust. Yeah, yeah, good idea. It isn't our say to determine quality of life.
But disabled people can contribute to society.

But there is a difference between this, and those... things that people keep posting back there.

The stupid ones can't.
Reminds me of that entire Hope baby story, the one where she has no brain yet is still kept alive.
OP, I certainly agree.
The poor kids will never know what's living or what's good, they're practically leeching your money, and probaly suffering inside, so I agree: Better terminate them.
You're pathetic IMO. You mean "welcome to facepunch and 4chan". Most of the internet isn't like this shitbox.
Well, technically she DID have a brain. Just the part that manages basic functions. But no thinking capacity whatsoever.

I think you are misunderstanding. African children atleast have a life.
They get on with their fellow africans. Just because they might not have good access to water and medical facilities doesn't mean that they live in a hell zone ( Excluding Zimbabweans , of course).
Let's stop. Would you rather live through life , getting looked down by at people , not being normal , not having many friends , not having the same intelligence , not getting laid , probably not getting a wife , not getting children, not getting normal job oppurtinities. Not getting a normal treatment.
Would you go through all that torment , when you could just stop it all?
Think of it as a pet.
Your pet has got seriously Ill? The humane way is to put it to sleep - or else it'll probably be constantly suffering and probably will never be the same again.
The same basis applies.
I agree with OP. Im just not allowed to say it out loud because people get all pissed at me.
Is it really your your choice to decide if someone's life isn't worth it? I could just as easily determine that a poor person living in a box isn't happy and put him out of his misery.
If it's already born and has mental capacities I wouldn't kill him/her. However if the doctors told me way before it was aware, that might be a different story.
I'm of the opinion that saying an abstract can ruin a life devalues life itself. I'm referring to life as the process we term consciousness, not a "human life".

People need to stop steering completely away from the actual issue at hand here.
It's not about deciding that someone's quality of life is going to be worse. You can't do that. If we started doing that, we'd be executing the poor, or limiting their reproduction in some way.
What we're talking about in this thread is a baby born with such a severe defect or disorder that they simply cannot live by natural means. If your child needs major reconstructive surgery and constant life support to live, that's just nature trying to tell you that it shouldn't be alive.
Dismissing children born without lungs, fully functioning brains, or anything else that would severely detract from their overall quality of life and leave them in a condition that isn't sustainable without constant life support and the direct care of others, isn't a bad thing at all. In fact, it's generally for the best. It is a completely different ball game from determining quality of life based on potential environment and projected upbringing.
This is why I became an advocate of eugenics; if you allow retarded people to reproduce, the defect could appear further down the line. If you stop them from breeding, you end the genetic weakness instead of afflicting a further generation.
