Armageddon.
Crappy movie IMO, but well, Bruce Willis gets his ass fried to save the world, so...
Also, one of the main characters die in Tron.

or was it falling down
If this is the film I'm thinking about, the end is actually happy BECAUSE the main character dies (and he isn't really "good"...)
Lost for sure.
and Sunshine is a brilliant movie.
Man On Fire
Passchendaele.
Also, Man on Fire like some people have already said.
Also, the very first transformers movie (the long cartoon I mean), where Optimus prime REALLY dies (not like the crappy movie where he survives, bullshit...)
300. This is a great film if you forget about the memes.
Harry Potter - Dumbledore :)
Watership Down.
Falling Down
This is a good one. A lot of other choices I disagree with, because I don't think for instance I Am Legend has a happy ending. But this movie has an undeniably happy ending even though...
I think I Am Legend had a happy ending.
Sure Neville killed himself with a grenade, but that allowed the two other to escape the city and deliver the cure to other survivors.
Donnie Darko
Yeah, that's true, but...
Billions of people are still dead. That includes everyone's families and friends. The 'cure' is worthless in any meaningful way, since the damage is done.
The fact that he died is not what makes it unhappy, it's that there was nothing for him to save with that cure he worked on so diligently on for so long. The fact that he survived by himself for so long even proves the cure is not needed for what's left of humanity to continue. Then how do you even spread that cure around a world where travel and communication is basically back to the stone age?
Alien 3 i hate weaver so its an amazing ending.
Smoking Aces when they kill Affleck i hate him too, i cheered in the cinema then left immediately to celebrate.
Might not technically be "happy" but I do believe Moon qualifies.
Fuck... Moon made me very sad.
I guess One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest counts because [sp]Chief Bromden had escaped the hospital shortly after euthanizing a lobotomized McMurphy. It was a bittersweet ending really.[/sp]
