here's hoping the release version is better than <20fps of the test late last year.

Honestly? This isn't looking too good, no pun intended. The new "fast" gameplay and the removal of armor & shields alongside the procedurally generated dungeons makes it look like some test version for some radical changes that may or may not go into later Souls games.
But you won't know until it's out so I'm gonna try to be optimistic.

Well they got rid of shields and armor because most people played dark souls by getting a big shield and hiding behind it all game, they're basically forcing people to play in a more aggressive style.
Also its going for a dark victorian setting so there wouldn't be many shields anyway.

More importantly they're rewarding you for being aggressive. In the Souls games most people hide behind their shield because it's usually a better option for staying alive, especially in DS2 where they made the parry window smaller and later. In Bloodborne you can get almost all of your health back if you tear into the people who hurt you. They also limit parrying by making it require ammo.

look at all that compression

They removed the chair.

Oh my god this looks great and it really brings back the feel of the first Dark Souls. This is so what I've been craving for a while.
...Except I dont have a PS4.
nice to see the atmosphere of the first dark souls is back

guess that answers that.
guess that answers that.
Actually, you know what answers that?

I love when people compare early builds of a game with little to no idea how far along the build is in the game's development, and then use horrible quality images to compare graphics.
Wait for the game to actually be out before jumping to conclusions.
The biggest difference in the comparison picture is that the sun is setting in the newer version, that's why the lighting is different, oh and whole lot more video compression
Damn, the first few minutes of the video suddenly turned Bloodborne into straight up horror. My wait for this game suddenly became a little more...unnerving.
Watched less than half of it, but I am going to try SUPER hard to kill that monster in the very beginning and not die.
you could wait till your actual days off so you dont lose actual vacation time???
Fuck that. I hate this attitude, sometimes i call in sick or i take a free day off to play my video games rather than in the weekends i barely have fucking time to play anything and people have to judge because i want to actually sit down and complete a 30+ hour game.
Not everyone has time to play huge games any longer.

There's only one randomly generated dungeon, and it's completely optional.

AFAIK You go back and fight it again with good gear, so all dying to it does is give you some equipment.
You should be able to kill it and move on.
13:40, never forget the Floor Dog, whose head poked out of the floor.
Also I'm curious about the whole "Hunter" and "Messenger" thing. It almost seems as if we'll have a Maiden in Black, who uses the Messengers to recruit and help her Hunters, in an effort to defeat whatever "Old One" has awoken in this era. 'cause we're probably thinking the same thing, in that this world is the gothic future of Demons' Souls.
Also also, is it just me or do those towering trees in the fog look remarkably similar to the Archtrees of the Dark Souls universe?

Same could be said about the asylum demon in dark souls 1, doesn't mean people won't try for the challenge. :v:

If we're following the Demon's Souls/Dark Souls formula, then that monster is going to drop me something for beating it to death with my hands.
Interested on how armor will be working since they got rid of shields. Will a more defensive style have a basis on high HP and resists so people can just take hits and the regen it from retaliating? Everything about the removal of shields just makes it seem like everyone should be building their characters to be fast and agile. I don't wanna see just katana gank squads.
Everything looks pretty cool except for those pants.
What is this, Hot Topic?
Just kiddin, looks ok I guess.

I see nothing wrong with this. Bloodborne focuses on speed and agility rather than tanking.

Dark Souls never focused on a single playstyle. It was your decision if you wanted to be an ultimate scrub and wear super armor or go completely naked and dodge and parry everything like a badass.
I don't get it, why would they remove the chair?
There is no time for sitting when disease is spreading.
I don't get it, why would they remove the chair?
Doesn't really make sense to put a chair there, and the fact that if they got like 30 chairs or something spread out in the world it could probably affect the frametime enough to be noticable when it doesn't really improve the experience.

Looks like it's mostly IGN's shitty compression that impacts the visual rather than any actual downgrade.
