The voice actor is good but I actually switched from the female PC to the male one just because the way the game integrates her into the story makes zero sense lore-wise. Like, okay the male PC can get by in the apocalypse because he's a fucking former soldier and that also probably explains why he knows how to use power armor. Heck, he's probably a better marksman than anyone because of his pre-war training. The female PC has... a law degree. When I heard that on the holotape Nate made to you it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me immersion-wise. At least in New Vegas you could create any character as the Courier and it'd still work RP-wise.
Gordon Freeman was a theoretical physics nerd and kicked ass
I don't give a shit about a character's background justifying how they use weapons and stuff. It's a video game, and it's not like her law degree is a big deal in the story at all, it's just a small piece of info that never gets mentioned again.
Gordon Freeman was a theoretical physics nerd and kicked ass
I was about to argue that Gordon had the benefit of wearing a sophisticated power suit that enhanced his abilities But then I remembered you get your own power suit in the first hour of FO4.
though gordons suit was more of a hazmat suit with some morphine and adrenaline injectors, power armor in fallout 4 is more of an exoskeleton that apparently no one needs training to use anymore in all likelyhood, gordon was probably high as a kite throughout hl1/2
Kinda weird how Power Armor Training is just gone from 4. I guess it's just a part of Law School.
and the fallout 2 character is from some tribe that has literally no guns and has probably had no training with them whatsoever like who gives a shit man, at least criticize the game on actual faults
Actual faults? The game cries for mods to make it actually "playable." Well, I mean the inability to change the shitty vertical mouse sensitivity, or FoV, not to mention there are some bugs/problems with the game world and settlements. And also I do find it a fault that you are thrown into the shoes of a preset character. You can only make a distinctive character on the outside, but with same voice and the dialogue-system which is definitely lacking when compared to like NV, but it is an improvement in just about every other aspect. Imho. It's just not an improvement in the "RPG" aspect, which NV did pretty well, or Skyrim with Random Alternate Start Mod, because the very beginning of the game almost solely determines how much room there is for any damned role-playing in the first place. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline] So, pretty light criticism from my end. I'm wishing they are determined to do some more patching/expanding the base game than before, plus I hope the DLC is gonna be good and big, but too soon to tell.
every character in fallout 4 is capable of climbing into and using a power armor suit effectively even dirty retard raiders who probably don't even know how to read can properly maintain and use power armor suits (with raider styled plating) it really doesn't make much sense
It just works.

Once you know how to insert a fusion core and how to open the whole thing up (which just means cranking a valve), you just need to step into it and just, like, walk or move like you normally would.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/4gZANMv.png[/t] I think he accidentally spat out his entire mouth.
Can someone explain to me how having a law degree invalidates being able to do anything else? Like it seems to me like people are going "Oh she has a law degree so she can't possibly be able to do anything else or have other skills." Doesn't make sense to me.
in all likelyhood, gordon was probably high as a kite throughout hl1/2
And probably has developed a Morphine addiction.

There's a very infamous strategy in Fallout 2 where you go directly south at the start of the game and get a full suit of Enclave power armour within about 5-10 minutes, without needing training or even really needing to do anything aside from talking to a few folks.

Notably her reactions in certain bits of dialogue in the prologue change to accommodate her experiences as well. With the way the intro rolls and the circumstances, the game's pretty blatantly written for the husband and the wife was probably intended to just be.. there until they reworked it to have her playable too. Because once that prologue ends, your gender is basically aesthetic beyond dialogue and maybe specific perks.
They just forced your pre-war past way too hard How or why would I be a lawyer with absolutely no charisma or intelligence. At least in the army they can find a spot for you to make use of your talents

They're obviously trying to emulate Mass Effect/Bioware, why didn't they just go all the way, rename it another game and say, "We're done with Fallout."
and the fallout 2 character is from some tribe that has literally no guns and has probably had no training with them whatsoever like who gives a shit man, at least criticize the game on actual faults
Hey, if you can ignore that more power to you. I just described why - to me personally - it broke my immersion so hard I had to switch the the male PC. Bethesda should have simply not included any specific background to the player character or should have had a couple different ones you could choose from like in Mass Effect like mentioned above.

What sort of sane investment strategy is it to buy an IP for that much and then proceed to make one game?

Bethesda tend to change their series pretty radically between iterations, look at the jump from Elder Scrolls II to III, or III to IV, or IV to V...
It bothers me how little the character backstory adds to the game, despite how much emphasis is put on it. It doesn't matter if your character is a veteran or a lawyer, it doesn't matter that you were alive before the war, and I sure as hell don't give a shit about Shaun. That's something else that annoys me; hack writers thinking that adding a child in distress will trigger the player's parental instincts and make you suddenly care about the story. You barely interact with your spouse/child, and as a player, have zero attachment to them. I'm more attached to a random stray dog I found, or my flying testicle of a robot butler, than my missing kid. They should've stuck to the F1/F2/NV pattern of having a very bare bones backstory that fits any character. Heck, they do it all the time in the Elder Scrolls series, where your only backstory is being a convicted criminal. What were your crimes, were you rightly accused? Doesn't matter; you will shape your character whatever way you want.
And probably has developed a Morphine addiction.
Well, if you avoided taking a lot of damage/fractures from falling etc., then your H.E.V. suit never administered enough Morphine for you to get addicted! :chem101:
i would have loved if the wife was in the game with you instead of one or the other. It'd be really fun considering the fully voiced character, you'd actually get some interpersonal interactions. Maybe moreso if Shaun was on the side and you devoted your little shantytown to him.
This will go good with my John Freeman playthrough of the game.
Does he look like this?
It's too bad the characters barely have any facial expression in the vanilla game. The mod demonstrates that they could have had a bit more variety.
Fallout 4 even has a green knit cap like John Freeman.
Doesn't he wear a grayish-blue knit cap?
I never really payed attention to the shit the rebels wear in hl2. Blue and green knit caps are apparently the only fasionable headwear in the half life universe
