The fuck are you chattin man? You can do loads of stuff with the kit lens, it's by no means a bad lens. They never are these days.
If you really think it matters that much you gotta get your head round photography abit better, cos I bet you'll find you still take the same pictures even if you get the 50mm.
The lens and camera is just as good as the photographer. It's all about improvisation.
Don't have enough money to get a good macro lens? Use a cheap 50mm 1.8 and tape a cheap telephoto to it. Don't like how your photo came out? Photoshop or Gimp.
It's easy to take great photos on a budget if you just use your imagination.

But the sharpness is kinda blah.
And with only 3.5-5.6 f stops I can't really do low light photography
also it only looks good from like 8-11 fstop meaning long exposures and horrible depth of field...

Well, invest in the 50mm 1.8 then. My 18-55 kit lens is good enough for me. Sometimes, I wish I had a lens that had more capability, but I work with what I have for now.
Yeah I get my first paycheck from my new job next friday...

Yes, it helps, but the kit lens isn't shitty.
And you can create shallow DoF with a little bit of time behind photoshop.
