#1, 2 and 3. - Dog eye, mole and chew Okay, so it's dogs... With a straight on flash. There is no defining light giving any mood whatsoever, and there is nothing going on in the picture in anyway other than... A dog doing dog-like things. The mole picture also seems to have been shot at an accident, not as if it was composed to have the eyes on the side and giving attention to the mole if that is what you tried to do. It's a typical family picture snapshot. #4 - Spiderweb Now this is a nice use of the standard flash. But I personally feel like the emptiness on the left side is a bit too much. It is it's charm point, but it does not charm me. But the reflection on the web and the background is good. #5 - Rebellious gras Been there done that. Well first of all the horizon (the brick) isn't straight, it skews upwards. The focus blurs out parts of the grass giving a very dodgy focus overall and kind of makin the focus point of the photo weak. And with the busy background (leafs in different colours overlapping eachothers) it really makes the image very busy and hard to focus on. It's not that it's that hard to actually focus on the grass, but it has it's dodgyness and business. As for the composition it's OK I guess, but I personally don't like it when it's so close, but we'll come back to that with #7 anways. #6 - Rust Oh great, a rusty pipe or whatever. You've put the rust right in the middle and there is hardly anything else to look at than just some plain old rust. It makes for a very boring composition and overall uninteresting image to look at. I mean, if I would want to go look at some rust I'd go out in my own yard. Whatever it is down in the bottom left corner also ruins a bit. Next time you should try and find a scenery that can be enchanced by rust. Or tell a story of why the rust is there if you want to take shots of it. Or composite it well and learn some hefty tricks about colour editing in Photoshop and hope it turns out well. #7 - The last survivor I like it. It's not super great or anything, but I like it. But, the colours are too bland, nothing stands out, and at the same time nothing blends well, so it's not either side. It's just plain dull to look at. I'd recommend to make the green stand out a bit by increasing the saturation of it, or adjust the colour balance by increasing the green. As for the composition it's one of those shots that works when it's in the middle, well, actually a little lower than the middle, but that's what does it. The natural vignetting helps too. It could possibly do with a more widescreen format by cropping a bit of the bottom.
Thanks! This really is great to hear, instead of just pointing out my flaws, you give me ways to improve them. Like boyblunder said, this kind of advice is monumentally helpful.
My Silvia S15 is coming along [img_thumb]http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/3289/silvias15side.png[/img_thumb]
can't wait to see the gradient work you do on this, lineart looks promising
Self portraits... its kind of hard focusing without a remote
True, but what I usually do with my XS at the moment is set it to auto focus and Adep mode. But a tip on the colors though, don't overdo it too much. Just add a tiny bit, and I usually like having it fit the mood of the situation, which is why I don't use colors too much.

I really like this.
Got a Canon XS today, I love it so far. But I'm saving up to buy some hot shoe flashes and some lenses.
just call them flash guns or external flash's. Easier.
l4d2 icon v2 how does that look
it looks good but the flat black on the shiny background doesn't quite fit for my eyes
l4d2 icon v2 how does that look
Looks ace. I'm using it.
...and to end an attempt at a self portrait:
