Are you fucking serious?
You're saying every 10-13 year old cannot drive and is going to crash and impress their friends? Hell no, you're stereotyping all of them as ignorant retards that have IQ of 50.
Yes, there are real big fucking idiots out there, but I know that quite a few people can and would drive properly at that age.
every 10-13 year old that gets on my bus has a seizure over one another for the entire bus journey, flailing their arms and screaming the whole time. sure there might be one or two that don't do that, but given how undeveloped their view of the world is and how erratic their behaviour can be, not to mention size implications it would be a terrible idea to trust them with that.
16 is good, but in the U.S. at least, there needs to be more stringent rules and actual driving tests. When I got my license, I had to take a written test with asinine questions (WHAT IS THE TOWING CAPACITY OF A BUS?), then paid a fee, then they gave me my full license. Too many people at 16 don't have the skill or reflexes to drive properly.

But in all honesty would you really trust a 10 year old to drive a car? Like at that age their body still hasn't full matured and in an accident they will most likely get seriously injured/killed.
I think it would be fun to drive a car, but alas, I'm only 14. I'll just stick to my Driving Force GT then.
Even though there aren't any good free driving simulators out.

I can tell you that no driving simulator or console steering wheel or anything will come close to actually driving a car. Guess you'll have to wait.
I kinda realized that, but hey, at least it's something.
i live in the uk where the age to start driving is 17, and the rules are very strict compared to America so i guess you learn properly. So i think 17 is a good age to start driving in the UK. I guess America is more spaced apart so driving is more a necessity. I think 17 in America too though.
In my country the minimum age is 18. Which is pretty good, especially because at that age a lot of people start to be more self sufficent or find some jobs or continue studies. Having the ability to drive a vehicle helps a lot in terms of personal freedom.
You didn't take a driving test?
Nope. I took Driver's Education in high school, which is probably why. However, the DMV driving test is basically just driving around the DMV's parking lot, and AFAIK it no longer has parallel parking.
Now I'm 20 it should be raised to 19. Then I can hopefully have affordable insurance.
I passed first time three years ago and haven't had a single crash or claim on my insurance and it still costs like £1500 a year. Recently the price I pay rose for no reason.

In Washington we do (parallel parking)), but it no longer holds as much weight as it did.
I managed to pass the drive never checking my blind spots and driving over two curbs (I was tired and driving a Tahoe, I hate Tahoes).

Could you drive properly, 343N?
[editline]4th November 2011[/editline]
Because I doubt that you can even reach the pedals.
;33060961']I highly doubt you even have a license let alone your own vehicle. By that logic, everyone on the road is a good driver. Yet accidents still happen, wierd huh? So if I were to say, not a single person on the road is a bad driver, that is a statement you will say is 100% true? Because that's what you're saying.
So you honestly think 10 year olds can be eligible to drive? If after what I said, you think still that way, you're a lost cause. No joke, it's dead set impossible to talk sense into you. For example, did you even read the part I wrote about insurance and petrol?
10 year olds should be allowed to drive?
Like I said, I KNOW you know nothing of the road. I highly doubt you have a license let alone able to be on the road alone. Every single driver/rider I know would give a big NO to 10 year olds on the road.
If the tests are worthless, why bother having them?
[editline]5th November 2011[/editline]
Good job victoria.
I can get my private pilots license at 16, but can't drive until 18.
Sure thing dickheads

what on earth are you talking about?
that's an argument for why people over 30 shouldn't drive, not people in their prime
Between 16 and 18 seems fine, people become more independent and get jobs, it's what they drive that matters.
I would say that there needs to be a maxim power rating and size for a vehicle that a new driver can use/own, along with a limit on the amount of passengers. This could be lifted when they obtain a full license, depending if they lose any points off their license before that.
In America it is sixteen years of age. However, it is sixteen due to the fact that they think we are responsible enough to handle the power of a huge machine that can kill people. I personally think it should be around twenty but how would we get around though? That arises a big problem, but if the teens were to get more responsible then it should stay sixteen.

They have restrictions on cars for learners in Australia, however funnily enough a learner can still legally drive a high performance car if it has a turbocharged diesel engine.

BWahahahahahha!~ Driving FUN? You must be seriously out of your goddamn fucking mind, driving blows fucking dick. It's boring as fuck and honestly I hate it, bane of my existance.
Even better is that I'm 16 and hate driving.

As long as I don't have to drive a Fiat Panda or something.
CONCEPTION.
[/bullshit]
16 Seems... good. Anything higher than 18 is insane unless the infrastructure exists to allow every employed or enrolled person to get to their work/school without a car from their house.
The human brain doesn't fully develop before you turn in the twenties. The minimum age should be 20.

what about a job/school?
16. Halfway through high school, when kids begin to become independent
[editline]9th November 2011[/editline]
And also when they begin to work

I love driving, so I do not agree with The one that is [wrong].
what about a job/school?
Public transport?
Public transport?
Quite a few places don't have public transportation.
Public transport?
the closest bus stop to me is 2.5 miles away (that goes to my school)
and i certainly do not plan on walking 5 miles every day.
25. Less boy racers, less accidents and less cars (+ pollution ect.)
We should encourage people not to start driving instead of stopping driving. Driving is obviously a useful thing, and a fun thing for many but it is unsustainable at this point in time.
How can you say that? I live in the middle of nowhere, with a bus which runs EVERY 2 HOURS. It also only goes to one city, and it costs around £8 a day to get there. I am 19, nearly 20 and need a job and to go to college. I cant afford to move out, so driving makes life so much easier and enjoyable for myself.
Dont be so ignorant to other peoples needs. In the UK, the current age to drive is perfect. 17.
Oh, and to the person who hates driving? Dont drive then. I need to drive, AND i enjoy it. I'm really into car design and modification, and I am a good driver. I see women 25+ who do absolutely retarded things all the time. This morning a woman of that age range stopped dead on a main road for about 10 minutes to turn off it, for some reason she just sat there instead of just pulling in (tight gap but easily do-able)
Driving Rules. but younger than 17 driving is an accident waiting to happen.
I say germany's solution is a great one. Here you can get your driving license with 17, but you're only allowed to drive with your parents until you're 18. By then, the kids learn to drive more or less safely and responsible. There still are way too many accidents caused by beginners, and this (statistically proven) counteracts that.
Lowering the age is not a good idea, young kids are still irresponsible when it gets to driving. They want to impress their friends by driving recklessly, although this can't be said for everyone. Still, the average tells us it's better to let them drive too late than too early.
