Because people fail to recognize sarcasm at work. :colbert:
I think everyone gets that it was a joke.
It just wasn't a very funny one.
Most scientists in the US, as well as the US military have been using the metric system for a while now.
I personally prefer the metric system because I like logical things, and the Imperial system isn't logical in the slightest.
10's are ALOT easier to work with
We cant go to metric because we'd have to overhaul our entire fucking system. It's way too much trouble to even be worth it just so we can please some euro asshole like OP.
oh boo fucking hoo, almost every other country on Earth (see below) had to do that too, get over yourself

get with the times yanks
Because people fail to recognize sarcasm at work. :colbert:
should've used a sarcmark
I live in the UK at the moment, i hope to one day immigrate to the USA.
I will never get used to the temperature system.
Why can't it be simple? anything below 0 is freezing, anything above is not?
Then what did he base his zero around?
According to Wikipedia;
The zero point is determined by placing the thermometer in brine: he used a mixture of ice, water, and ammonium chloride, a salt. This is a frigorific mixture which automatically stabilizes its temperature at 0 °F.
Basically, really retarded thing to base your zero around.
Because America is a backwards Orwellian hellhole full of right-wing bigoted Fundies who think the Metric system is the work of Communism and Satan. Seriously.
Or because switching over would be devastating to the economy, since it would cost a lot and you'd have to train everyone what the metric measurements all are.
Americans are cheap, lazy and proud.
Its the Imperial and metric system you fucking noob. Go learn some simple science, then bitch about something you know.
you'd have to train everyone what the metric measurements all are.
Already there, also, with the cost thing, over the course of about 5 years, it could easily be done, THAT IS if the economy gets its shit together.
Already there, also, with the cost thing, over the course of about 5 years, it could easily be done, THAT IS if the economy gets its shit together.
No, not everyone knows how to use metric perfectly.
Its the Imperial and metric system you fucking noob. Go learn some simple science, then bitch about something you know.
Standard = Imperial.
Measurement term =/= Simple science.
Standard = Imperial.

Refer it to what you want.
Imperial is good for only its velocity and temperature. The rest could be done with meters and bullshit.
Dude, it would be freaking expensive to it. It requires reeducation, reestablishment of road signs, and all the books would have to be changed. It's not that simple to just out right change your country's measurement system.
Imperial makes for a good medium distance measurement. Telling someone it's about .356342 of a meter long is a pain in the ass. Also, there was a time when imperial was logical, the problem is most people don't know the logic, and no one's willing to do the research to figure it out. Oh yeah, and metric is french. Who wants to follow the cheese eating surrender monkey system?
I was just thinking about this in class today, the metric conversion thing should be restarted, this measurement system is just obsolete. Too hard to convert from one unit to another.

.356342 is practical because you can easily round it without thinking.
72/128 is completely confusing and useless.

You're missing the whole point of metric. You don't say it's .356 of a meter, you say it's 35.6 centimeters. All you have to do is shift the decimal point in order to get a unit that's sensible.
Dude, it would be freaking expensive to it. It requires reeducation, reestablishment of road signs, and all the books would have to be changed. It's not that simple to just out right change your country's measurement system.
It's not simple, but it's not impossible. The imperial system is outdated and it forces other countries to learn the outdated and illogical system.
Although it's not like the US cares is any way. Hell, they'll keep that system until the end of time and not give a shit about what anybody says about it.
It's called the Imperial system, and it was given to us by the British.
That's why it sucks.
I was just thinking about this in class today, the metric conversion thing should be restarted, this measurement system is just obsolete. Too hard to convert from one unit to another.
It's based on water, how can it be confusing?
Suggest a better system.
deal w/ it
With Fahrenheit, water freezes at like 33.5 degrees or some shit.
broke my fucking automerge :argh:
Uhm we do both, heh
Then what did he base his zero around?
He didn't.
I think he based his 100 on his body temperature, what an idiot.
I do a lot of woodworking, and prefer to use the imperial system.
If I'm doing precise stuff, metric will be better, but inches and feet are good for measuring and cutting stock.
Of course, for distances, volumes, and temperatures, I use metric.
I agree, metric is so much easier.
Switching over would NOT require re-education or anything like that. Pretty much every American that has finished elementary and a little bit of middle school should know almost everything about the metric system. There would be no need for re-educating people or anything like that, as anyone that doesn't understand the metric system probably didn't go to school and doesn't understand the imperial system either.
The problem is that we have a huge country, with an incredibly massive amount of road signs and such. Going through and changing all of them would cost fucktons of money and time. It's hard to even comprehend how many road signs we have, they're all over the place. Then, after spending all of that money to change all of the signs and stuff, what do we get? Nothing, really.
Changing might make things easier for foreigners, but it would in no way be worth the massive amounts of money that will be required to change everything. We're past the point of no return.
They teach the Metric system in the US nowadays.
