-snip- [editline]09:51PM[/editline] As long as one person in this world does not think that metric is easier, it's an opinion. And you didn't get the point of my post at all. And, yes. An example of a person doesn't think metric is easier.
There are people that think that Barack Obama is from Kenya, that the Iceland Volcano is god's wrath for America getting Obamacare, and that the Shia LaBeouf is a god. That doesn't make those things even close to opinions. They are blatant idiocies. Ok, that last one isn't serious. Unless your opinion is that it's seriously funny. Which is a fact.
I don't think most of you grasp just how much money it would cost for the US to switch to metric, it would cost trillions upon trillions of dollars, it's not feasible by any stretch of the imagination. Some companies are slowly switching over to metric as parts break or otherwise need to be replaced, but the shear amount of factory equipment that's in standard/imperial is immense and it's going to take a hell of a long time. The whole thing with the Mars mission that failed because of a mix-up in units was an engineering failure, and a pretty shitty one at that. A whole part of engineering is constantly trying to smooth things out between the people who actually build the stuff for you, who's tools are all in standard/imperial and the scientists who give us all of the pretty idealistic data that we can wrangle something practical out of, who only use metric. As a result, any engineer worth their salt writes out units and explains unit conversions as they follow through the process. Failure to do so almost always ends up to results like that: that one just apparently had more than its fair share of lazy or shitty engineers.
Just look at the US military. They use metric. No reason for the rest of the country not to.
So does most of our scientists and schools.
So does most of our scientists and schools.
Even the druggies know what a gram is. How are people not getting this?
Metric is just plain stupid. 100 Km/h is about 60 mph, larger number makes you think that you are going faster when your going the same god damn speed. Only time Metric is worth using is when using wrenches. The repair manuals that I have used use Metric. Other than that, Metric plain sucks.
Imperial is just plain stupid. 60mph is about 100km/h, smaller number makes you think you are going slower when in fact you are going to same god damned speed. Now do you see how stupid you are?
10's are ALOT easier to work with
Stop saying alot Would you say alittle?
Metric is just plain stupid. 100 Km/h is about 60 mph, larger number makes you think that you are going faster when your going the same god damn speed.
See how 60 and 100 are at the same spot depending on which unit you're reading? Yeah.
It's going to be hard to change all the country's road signs, manufacturing equipment, and what not in order to change to the metric system, not to mention expensive. However, we haven't used the English system in our high schools here for years. It's just outdated and the metric system is so much easier to work with.
Our school has recently switched over to mostly metric, thats the only measurement system we use at all. Hooray for metric!
move from america = problem solved. who wanna live in america anyway
it's a totally irrelevant thing to bring up
move from america = problem solved. who wanna live in america anyway
only millions of people
I hope that someday before I die, the imperial measurement system will be completely replaced by the metric system.
I hope that someday before I die, the imperial measurement system will be completely replaced by the metric system.
The odds are in your favor.
Very relevant.
Shit's me off. Thank god i'm in the US. As a whole body, the world needs to define standards for these things. Like a universal measurement system.
I hate living in the USA. Their imperial system is such shit.
Then we would have to Call .357 Magnum .906 Magnum D: Edit: Never mind, now it sounds 3 times as badass.
Then we would have to Call .357 Magnum .906 Magnum D:
Wtf, that sounds badass. :p
Because the cost of switching would be immense. Everything from Road Signs to Speedometers would need replaced, and a lot of people would need to be re-educated on the new system. It can be done, but it'll have to be done slowly over time instead of all at once.

Go masturbate about your country, we're civilized just like you, but our country has a lot of stupid people. Doesn't mean you have to generalize us as a bunch of dumb yanks not wanting to change systems.

It's heaps better being Metric. Who designed the metric system anyway? 12 inch's in a foot? 3 feet in a yard? How'd some guy come up with this? Was his daughter 12 and his son 3 or what? Metric, Shit rounds to 10's. 10mm in a 1cm. 100cm in 1m. 100m in 1km. Though I have a habit of saying "About an inch" " 3 foot away" etc.
People saying "It will be too expensive": That's why you have a period of 15-20 years where you change to metric (And have both units in the meantime). All those things will eventually have to be replaced anyway, so it's not that expensive.
Oh goddamn, I hate english measurements, yards and feet and inches ect. I prefer meters, centimeters, kilometers ect.
The UK had a good idea about the road signs, past a certain date every time a road sign was replaced, it was replaced with a sign containing both imperial and metric units. After enough time, they change it so that signs only have metric units after they're replaced. It's a gradual change, and doesn't cost extra (you're replacing the signs anyway)

Seriously, there's no need to TEACH people how to multiply/divide by 10, unless they're fucking retarded. However, I do agree on the Road Signs and Speedometers, but some things can be done slowly. Most road signs "live" for under 10 years, and then you could just switch it. Speedometers? No big problem, old cars could keep their MPH and all cars made from 2011 would have KMPH. In 10 years everyone would use metric, at no extra cost! :science: [editline]o[/editline] 10 years is nothing. It's 1 Decayear
Well ofc the change will take time, you can't just switch in a day. But if you don't do it at all, then you will never switch.
