you have timeline A, which is all the movies up to this point.
wolverine goes to an earlier point in timeline A before shit goes down that creates the future seen in dofp, and creates a new future, timeline B, the ending of the film, which appears to have retconned X2 and 3. by rewriting timeline A and making timeline B, that future A ceased to exist and B took over as the main timeline.
just like how before marty traveled back his parents were pushovers and biff was still a bully (A), but his traveling back in time made them into stronger people and biff into a whimpering dog (B).[/sp]
