Hey people, I'll keep this relatively short, here's some assignments I've been doing recently on my media technology course (Second year, super busy) Three-Dee: Assignment to make a kitchen and do three cinematic..ally lit photos; took about three weeks to do (last week of which was proper crunch time, working until 2am), could probably do it faster but was learning the program (3DSMax) as we went All shots are composites of Mental Ray and Scanline renders (some speculars weren't showing up in mental ray and scanline horribly aliased my bump mapping) About 140k polys (although that doesn't matter any), all textures photosourced from my own kitchen Moshun grafix: Assignment to make a 15 second personal 'logo' graphic, took me about three hours in all, all assets made in illustrator, animated in after effects, only bit I wasn't amazingly happy with was the camera movement on the zoom down, but I'd set myself a specific timeline/deadline and the results were adequate. Learnt some neat little tricks, like using particle world to make ink drops (I'll tip my hat to Andrew Kramer for that one), and learnt some of the limitations of the write-on effect (used it for the dripping ink but the max brush size is way too small, ended up keyframing out some masks for the strips) http://vimeo.com/7824293 If you guys have any question about my course or anything else, feel free to ask! Enjoy!
why you take pictures of my house
Lights are very meh, do you even have GI enabled?
I love that first picture, particularly the material of the counter. I'm doing the same course as you, I'm only in the first year of it though.
i feel like i have seen you doing 3d stuff before? and not like i'm mistaking you for dav0r, i'm almost certain you used to post models in the modeling section?
Lights are very meh, do you even have GI enabled?
I made a personal decision not to use photometric lights, GI, architectural materials, or other confusing advanced systems (apart from the glass material, all lights are standard lights and all materials are either blinn, metal, or anisotropic) as: A) I believe in getting the basics right and perfecting them first B) I wasn't taught how to use them effectively C) I wanted to keep render times down D) While it was in my mind, I wasn't specifically concerned with anything to do with 'realism'; I'm a cinematographer/photographer, I wanted a stylised lighting setup, and so lit it like I would any other scene on set (only with the ultimate laws of physics breaking lighting rig that's free, awesome!)
i love the first one so much
Paliwoda is the best last name ever.
All of your stuff is amazing. I'm jealous of your skills.
that's radical. and yeah first one is awesome.
i love the normal maps on the wooden countertop.
The lighting in the second picture looks rather odd.
i love the normal maps on the wooden countertop.
Cheers, its got the same bump and specular maps
The lighting in the second picture looks rather odd.
I'll admit it was the most rushed of the three, but I'm still relatively happy with it
All of your stuff is amazing. I'm jealous of your skills.
Gotta do the time to get the skill
The white objects look like unfinished wips.
What johan said also the lighting is kinda gross even though you said why you did it the way you did.
The white objects look like unfinished wips.
My actual kitchen cupboards are white If it was just flat white, it would look different (It's probably due to the small image size, in the first pic you can just about see some detail on the door on the right side of the frame) Like I said, 3D is something that I'm really learning as I go, but I think it's important to get critique on all levels of your work, cheers!
Good stuff so far, enjoy learning 3d!
White stuff got no texture at all, it looks like that at least. Or post higher res to see what you mean. And, is your fridge plastic? If not, it looks like it is. I am not saying your work is bad, it just needs improvements.
