It's simple--FP is comprised mostly of white nerds, and rap combines two things they're very uncomfortable with: popular music and black people.
Most of them won't admit it, of course--the most you'll get is 'i only hate black people who go...' before launching into a half-remembered series of jive-talking racial stereotypes, like bud389 shows us up there.
It has everything to do with socialization and very little to do with the actual characteristics of the music.
Eazy-E, Dr.Dre, Wu-Tang, and Jay Z are all pretty good in my opinion.
Usually if somebody's good at what they do they can pull fans from every segment of society.

Dr. Dre was a good producer but he didn't write his own lyrics. Neither did Eazy-E. Most of nwas material was ghostwritten by ice cube.

I remember reading some article about Dr.Dre hiring guys to write lyrics and then he'd produce it- Didn't know that about Eazy-E though.
Rap isn't all about fucking people and doing drugs and getting money (although alot of it is). Here's a really really brief list of different types of rap that I listen to:

fucking bitches beating people up smoking pot and rapping about rapping (still a fucking great song)

loving life chilling out enjoying the small things (two fucking great songs)

subversive rap that has a crazy rhyme pattern (holy shit good)
Not all Rap sucks. Just most of it.
2Pac is a pretty good example of good rap. He talked about issues and what was wrong with the world. What you hear now is about pussy and how good it is to be a billionaire.
i dont like rap all it does it talk about bitches and killing people and gangsters and guns excuse me while i listen mayhem
thats right its demeaning to women and i dont like that
imma go listen Buckcherry now
His new album is great. Jay Z has still got it after these years, mos def is good and also the guy from outkast, Big Boi. I havent heard his new album yet but its promising
Hey, what about Talib Kweli :frown:
I like eminem.
Hey, what about Talib Kweli :frown:
Yeah, i didnt say ONLY these people, i said its rare to find rappers who make good spirited hiphop

I'm not sure about everyone else, but i don't hate it for being "popular", and you generalizing all of facepunch like that is just as bad as them hating rap in general.
And i don't hate black people (even if i do find racism hilarious, but hey, i also find genocide hilarious), i hate what their trying to portray as "cool" and "respectful", and if you had atleast some sort of a brain you would've figured that out by now.
oh my goodness

I was joking, it was sarcasm to what he was saying about me portraying the racial stereotypes.
Even though metal is my favorite, I can tolerate old rap and some of the newer underground rappers like Immortal Technique. Modern mainstream rap is shit though.
I knew this thread would be pointless

Funny you should ask, i am actually 30 seperate 300gb MLC SSB's hooked up to an Artificual neural network running off a cluster of MMID multiprocessors using an experimental code of advanced adaptive behaviour AI.
Because music is like candy, you throw away the (w)rapper
:ghost:
In all seriousness it's because the extremely large majority is about drugs, crime, and fucking. almost all of it sounds the same.
there is some really good stuff, it's just harder to find
yeah I'd rather listen to August Burns Red sing about jesus
[editline]10:27PM[/editline]
the drugs and shit argument is such bollocks. I mean even the beatles sang about doing drugs constantly (though they were a bit more clever and subtle about it).

They weren't singing about drugs, they were singing about shit they saw ON drugs.
Listen to Sage Francis - Best of Times. That song is lika piece of poetry.
that was beautiful :crying:
I personally don't like rap, especially ones that talks only about gangs, drugs, girls, etc. Few raps with deep feelings I like a lot like this one.

B.O.B. - Lost Generation

A song some FPers might like haha.
I hate the majority of it. Though there's always a good band/group/artist in any genre you hear. Except for pop.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't pop just short for popular and just really means music that is commonly played on radio. And there is SOME good music played on radio.
I don't hate rap, quite the contrary, I now prefer it over most rock stuff played nowadays.
I dislike the more mainstream artists, typically their songs lack deeper meaning then "Fuck bitches and kill things" I do though like some deeper rap and sure everyone likes the violent or sexual song here or there but I'm not going to buy an album made entirely of it if it isn't done well. I like rap but I still enjoy rock and 40s music more.
They weren't singing about drugs, they were singing about shit they saw ON drugs.
Does it really fucking matter? Its just music...
A few years ago, I used to be on the same bandwagon as most, saying rap was crap and stuff. Back then I never really gave it a chance. I just never really understood what the rappers were saying and just kind of scoffed off the music.
It wasn't until I got my own car and started driving around a lot that I set my radio to a local R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap station 99.3 The Beat
That is when I started listening to a lot of R&B and rap. At first I still didn't understand what they were saying, I just mostly enjoyed the energy of most of the songs. As time went on I started to understand what some of the songs were about and really started to enjoy the music.
Yeah, I listen to a lot of the "commercial garbage," but I really enjoy some of it. DJ Khaled, B.O.B. (not just his new stuff), and TI are some of my favorite artists.
Now I raise a question to you facepunch. Why don't you like rap. And please don't give me that "objectifying women, drugs, sex" garbage cause that kind of stuff has been in Rock forever. I would know, I've been listening to all kinds of rock since I was young. I've been raised on the stuff.
And as far as I know, most rap songs are built almost virtually the same way as any other genre. They generally consist of a melody, counter melody, chorus, bridge, outro, etc. Though I could be wrong, I'm pretty sure of it though.
I understand if some people just don't like it, but some people seem to not give it a chance at all. Whats up?
you're full of bullshit, we hate mainstream rap
to label an entire genre "shit" is ignorant
It makes my ears hurt, I can tell why, but when I hear pop/hip hop/rap ext I have a very unpleasant feeling and need to stop hearing it as soon as possible, like some sort of phobia.
