To be honest, there's just about as much crappy underground rap as there is crappy mainstream rap. For instance, I was at a show with a couple friends, and we were all there for the last two artists, but some of the rappers that came first were just god awful. One began with a technical "campfire song", frighteningly happy and, though this term may get me some flak, white. However, his next song immediately launched into him screaming about how 9/11 was a hoax, unleashing a whole pandora's box of conspiracy theories, it was just terrible. The rapper before him was dressed in the typical "wankster" garb, long white shirt and sweatpants. I can't really attest to his actual rapping skills though, because he cupped the mic so badly that nobody could tell what he was saying. Then this guy played and it was all better:
haha you just encapsulated everything I hate about underground rap in one great anecdote, A+ work.
I have no problem with old rap, but new rap I find it very difficult to break to, so it sucks.

ITT: people stop bandwagoning because it'll make them look bad
People who hate rap have never listened to Triple 6 Mafia.
I stand by what I said on the first page. [editline]04:36AM[/editline]
yeah I'd rather listen to August Burns Red sing about jesus [editline]10:27PM[/editline] the drugs and shit argument is such bollocks. I mean even the beatles sang about doing drugs constantly (though they were a bit more clever and subtle about it).
This. People always shit on Rap for being about drugs or Death Metal for being too violent. Just about every musician/musical effort ever (barring straight edge and Christian stuff) has some sort of drug influence, and I'm sure you watch violent movies.
It's not really the genre that I hate, it's the majority of the artists. Most of them are very untalented, bland and are famous mostly just for being an idol to 15 year old chavs. There are some though, who are generally quite good and talented. These are the ones that instead of having all of their songs based around money, cars, sex and being a gangster, they actually rap about quite moving life issues.
