I was laughing the whole time during the opening ceremonies with the doctors. What a train wreck.
So rest of the world, what did you think? Did we do good?
Not as impressive as China, but it was still pretty cool. I really liked the inspiring Industrial thing, and Mr. Bean's bit was pretty funny.
The commentators on NBC are really making me cringe...also, this is all recorded footage, right?
Had a great commentary here from the BBC
The commentators on NBC are really making me cringe...also, this is all recorded footage, right?
for the US, yeah
for the US, yeah
As I expected. So, I take it I shouldn't expect our glorious republic to enter with something insanely obnoxious and problematic?
The commentators on NBC are really making me cringe...also, this is all recorded footage, right?
Oh god. They tried to make a pun. It was terrible.
Oh god the "technology/teenager" part. Nice try, London, trying to make the Olympic ceremony cool for the chavs and general young culture. Did they do that in Beijing? I don't remember.
The difference why Beijings was better? They weren't politically correct.
This whole thing is still amazing to me. The sheer scope of it, and what it represents.
The difference why Beijings was better? They weren't politically correct.
The sheer coordination of the performers was awe-inspiring. IT was pretty cool how they managed to do all those feats. However, I am impressed with the little plot-twist with the leaves becoming the cauldron.
They cut all that for that retarded fucking indian child abduction sequence.
Yeah not quite. "Choreographer Akram Khan presented an expressive dance inspired by the horrific events of 7/7, a day after London won the bid to host the Olympics." (Maybe I don't understand expressive dance, because I didn't get that from it)
I was cheering when Germany came along, same to all the Scandinavian countries (and Czech Republic)! Good to see we had a nice turnout.
Glad to see that Sir Berners-Lee got a big show all about him.
et de la ROYAL AIRFORCE.
this is one of the funniest aspects of the show
i bet it feels amazing(Or terrible depending how much you want attention) being from a country with 2-3 athletes.
The independent athletes look like they were having a hell of a good time, so I suppose it would depend.
Honestly, I liked it a lot. Sometimes Facepunch is too critical.
I thought the opening ceremony was great.
I wonder what the North Koreans were thinking. "Why are there cars actually in the streets?" "Why can people seemingly do what they want?" "Why is this song not about our Glorious Leader?" "Why are people smiling?"
Heh, they're airing the ceremony again only they cut out all the youth-music-time-travel bit and Mary Poppins fighting off the ghost people from fallout new vegas. Atleast the parade of nations didn't take 4 hours this year.
I DID think that the ceremony was going to be utterly pish, but the section on music and the end with the fireworks with Pink Floyd - Eclipse playing then Macca performing just made it for me.
The rings coming together at the end of the industrial revolution was actually pretty awesome, really great idea. And the copper petals that make the cauldron was pretty cool to. Britons would have found alot of it amusing and fun, pity most of the world doesn't get our humour or pop culture references. Still I'm proud of my country. And when you compare the opening ceremony to previous ones (excluding Beijing) it was actually one of the best if not the best.
Muhammad Ali (arguably the greatest sportsman ever to have lived) is there and only one person in this thread mentioned it, the majority of others just whined about david tennant not being there.
Not gonna lie, I was fucking surprised when Syria showed up on the roster.
Muhammad Ali (arguably the greatest sportsman ever to have lived) is there and only one person in this thread mentioned it, the majority of others just whined about david tennant not being there.
It's just sad seeing him nowadays. Back in '96 he was lighting the cauldron and now he barely stand up under his own power. Also, the other thing I forgot about the Olympics. The really early start times. Disappointing performance for Canada there in the Men's 8, Germany really dominated.
I'm wondering, what events are you guys watching right now?
I'm wondering, what events are you guys watching right now?
CTV finished covering the Men's 8 rowing about 10 minutes ago, on to Men's 400 swimming right now I think. EDIT: Thankfully, CTV has the convenient viewing guide for all Canadian coverage.
There is no reason to compare this to Beijing in the way you guys are doing. In the Beijing opening ceremony they replaced the girl singing the national anthem because she looked to ugly, here we had a deaf choir singing the anthem. Surely that one point illustrates how different the ideas were for the two opening ceremonies.
The first final is about to get underway [editline]28th July 2012[/editline] http://www.london2012.com/shooting/event/women-10m-air-rifle/phase=shw101100/index.html
I'm watching cycling right now.
