I thought Jessie J did very well. Thought Spice Girls were fantastic.
She sounded nervous to me, this is an example of what Jessie can pull off when she's really into it:
I wonder if Channel 4 will cover the paralympic games as well as the BBC.
so that's over.. roll on the paralympics.
I wonder if Channel 4 will cover the paralympic games as well as the BBC.
I doubt it, didn't they do some athletics a few months ago and it was awful?
Damn you NBC and your delaying of the ENTIRE olympics. Seriously.
Damn you NBC and your delaying of the ENTIRE olympics. Seriously.
More people are home at night, so they want to make more money.
these closing ceremonies are just eugh
So, who's idea was it to let jessie j cover Queen?
Rio will be a fun Olympics. Brazilians party hard.
so that's over.. roll on the paralympics.
I'm going to hell
It is weird, I am sure for most of the people on here from the UK the build up has covered a large portion of their life. Its some ~8 years of build up and preparation. Maybe I have just noticed it so much because I'm in an area that gets BBC London (and in an area that held a cycling event actually) and I have heard nothing but it for the past 8 years. It is kinda sad to see it go, makes me feel old.
Started at when I was 11, I'm 20 now... Damn... [editline]13th August 2012[/editline]
So, who's idea was it to let jessie j cover Queen?
If it's good enough for Brian May and Roger Taylor then it's good enough for me
God dammit. I was looking forward to watching The Who's performance but fuck it if I've got to sit through a couple hour long previews of NBC's new shows.
Are there any videos anywhere of the closing ceremony? I missed it :c
ALLLWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIIIIGHT SIDE OF LIFE Oh my god this is fantastic
The closing ceremony reminded me of something. It's a bit annoying that the majority of our best performers are old and/or dead. The Spice Girls are getting on a bit too.
They used to be about sex and music Now they're about palates and music
Yeah i was supposed to get tickets for the closing but at the last minute they cancelled, long story. Anywho i'm sad i missed this one. Hopefully my business gets going and i can afford rio. Thats a big hopefully.
very much look forward to the Brazil games. The ceremonies will be a walk in the park for them. Also the music will be marginally better. One thing I'm disappointed about the closing was the lack of Kate Bush and David Bowie even though their songs played.
I have to say, the mountain bike race is one of the most fun looking sports.
Olympic MTB is pretty tragic as of now. The XC consisted of essentially a dirt path with a few rocks strewn about. They really should to add downhill and slopestyle. There's no reason only the Winter Olympics should have extreme sports in which athletes get crazy speed or do sick tricks(DH ski and half pipe). A bit of a DH montage: A bit of SS: There is absolutely no reason for these not to be part of the Olympics. Maybe there'd be something other than women's beach volleyball worth watching.
And it looks like I need to update the medal count: 13/08/2012 The International Olympic Committee (IOC) today announced that it has disqualified, withdrawn the medal from, and excluded Belarus’s Nadzeya Ostapchuk (athletics, women’s shot put) from the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London. The athlete was first requested to provide a urine sample for a doping control on 5 August. She competed the next day in the women’s shot put event, where she placed first, and was asked to provide a sample straight after her competition. Both samples indicated the presence of metenolone, which is classified as anabolic agent under the 2012 Prohibited List. Upon the recommendation of the IOC Disciplinary Commission, composed for this case of Thomas Bach (Chairman), Denis Oswald and Frank Fredericks, the IOC Executive Board decided: I. The Athlete Ms Nadzeya Ostapchuk, Belarus, Athletics: (i) is disqualified from the women’s shot put event, where she had placed first; (ii) is excluded from the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London in 2012; (iii) shall have her medal, diploma and medallist pin in the above-mentioned event withdrawn; (iv) shall have her Olympic Identity and Accreditation Card immediately cancelled and withdrawn. II. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is requested to modify the results of the above-mentioned event accordingly and to consider any further action within its own competence. III. The NOC of Belarus is ordered to return to the IOC, as soon as possible, the medal, diploma and medallist pin awarded to the Athlete in relation to the above-noted event. IV. The IOC administration is instructed to reallocate the medals, diplomas and medallist pins to the athletes who finished behind Ms Nadzeya Ostapchuk in the above-mentioned event, the first three being: - Valerie Adams, New Zealand, first - Evgeniia Kolodko, Russian Federation, second - Lijiao Gong, People’s Republic of China, third V. The NOC of Belarus and LOCOG shall ensure full implementation of the Executive Board decision. VI. This decision shall enter into force immediately. Under the IOC Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the 2012 London Olympic Games, testing takes place under the IOC's auspices from 16 July (date of the opening of the Olympic Village) to 12 August 2012. Within that period, the IOC systematically performs tests before and after events. After each event, the IOC systematically carries out tests on the top five finishers plus two at random. The IOC also performs out-of-competition unannounced tests. Over the course of the London Games, the IOC is expected to carry out some 5,000 tests - 3,800 urine and 1,200 blood. For more information, please consult the IOC factsheet on anti-doping.
How long does it take for drugs to get out of the system? You would think people would stop a month before the olympics
Can somebody tell me why David Gilmour and Roger Waters didn't perform?
How long does it take for drugs to get out of the system? You would think people would stop a month before the olympics
I'm quite sure she did it FOR the Olympics.
So apparently, the olympics caused a freight jam, which means I have to wait until the 21st of august to get my PSU which has constantly been delayed week after week :(
Can somebody tell me why David Gilmour and Roger Waters didn't perform?
I don't think they would want to play alongside Spice Girls and One Direction. :v:
Can somebody tell me why David Gilmour and Roger Waters didn't perform?
Basically, practically anybody you can think of was asked, but a staggering amount refused. Hell even George Michael, The Who and The Spice Girls refused. But the manager for The Spice Girls kept insisting even though Victoria Beckham didn't want to do it. That's probably why Victoria Beckhams fashion label was advertised. George Michael is rumoured to only have taken part to advertise his new single. The Who only agreed to take part as they thought it'd be good advertising for the American tour. The Rolling Stones turned down as they weren't stage ready. The Libertines turned down. Bowie turned them down. Kate Bush turned them down. The Sex Pistols turned them down. Judging by the fact Robbie Wiliams is good mates with the director and didn't appear, he probably turned them down. Noel Gallagher turned them down. John Lennon probably would've refused to support a country that gives weapons to rebels, but he's no longer in a position to say no. Blur and The Specials accepted but were on another stage in Hyde Park doing a seperate closing show. [editline]14th August 2012[/editline] John Cleese was likely asked to do something with Eric or some Fawlty Towers stuff, I mean let's face it, it would be stranger if he wasn't asked. But I think he was getting married. Coldplay were probably asked, I think they're on tour.
A couple of bands refused but after seeing the opening ceremony asked to be a part of it, they were turned down because it was too late.
John Lennon probably would've refused to support a country that gives weapons to rebels, but he's no longer in a position to say no.
dude, your comments on what Lennon would have done if he were alive are uncomfortable to read... It's just the fact that you make it so positive as if he died naturally.
It's not positive. It would right piss me off if he was alive and refusing to participate.
