You also have to keep in mind the limitations of each... for example Vimeo - you aren't allowed to upload stuff like video game gameplay footage, public domain video, any type of advertisement, TV, movie trailers, etc. - and then unless you pay $60 a year, you can only upload a limited amount of content. That SUCKS. At least youtube lets anyone upload an unlimited amount of anything, provided it's in chunks of less than 2GB.

There's never going to be a video site that has no ads, that doesn't enforce copyright laws, that doesn't try to make money, because there can't be. YouTube was in millions of dollars of debt before Google bought them.

Youtube's servers cost a lot of money every month. They tried all sort of adverts, now they are going with the radical methods. Next might be pay for embed.... all videos with pre roll ads... Etc, etc. Video hosting has to be one of the least profitable website types out there. The best are social network sites. In terms of final PROFIT.

I just hate sites that sneak ad links where they know you're going to click, like 1 pixel below a download link/button, and I hate the sites that have popups when you click the page background...

For me, Youtube is not slow. At all. It's as fast as ever. Sure, the ads are annoying, but they only take a mouse click to remove, and as far as the pay thing goes, so what? They have every right, and if you don't like it there are a million programs that rip vids and audio for free. But the censorship is a piece of shit.
