Neopets comes to mind here (if you were there you'll know what I'm talking about)
Dailymotion > YouTube

20 minutes / 1 gigabyte limit - NO LIMITS AT ALL FOR MOTIONMAKERS

Good channel customization, with banners that can link to whatever you want; your channel customization appears in your videos!

Much better encoding (especially if you know how to encode your videos right), which gets even better if you're a MotionMaker (around 2,5mbps for the HQ if I remember right)

Processing is also way faster

Buffering is lightning-fast. (at least here in Northwestern France)

The player page automatically resizes itself to adapt to widescreen or old content (unlike YouTube's stupid letterboxing)

Copyright claims are rarely heard of since it's a French-based site (there's an international version, don't worry about that)

For Firefox 3.5 users and free-software-lovers: they have started using the open Theora codec, which The Video Bay uses; http://openvideo.dailymotion.com/

And a lot more

I saw this ad as soon as I loaded the page:

At first I was like "Hmmm... sounds good" Then I saw the ad and the layout and "Ding" instant no.
Wait, so you used Youtube before google had it?

Yes I do

As they also say, they've got a really awesome community
But well it's more of a grown-up site than the "Internet" as we know it...
I only usually see artsy-farsty people pointing cameras at random objects trying to be inspiring but usually it's just boring.
A quick note about Vimeo: You can't upload stuff you didn't make, you'll get your account suspended.
That's the good thing, the bad thing is that your account is completely removed if it has any gameplay footage in any of your videos, that's what happened to me when they added that rule, even though some videos weren't game ones and hardly any clips were actual gameplay.
Considering nearly everyone here plays video games and would probably upload video game stuff, that would be a problem if the forum were to use Vimeo primarily.

Came here to say Vimeo, I know if I'm every uploading a video with music... I won't even begin to think of Shittube.
I tried loading up a video, When it started playing this ad started beeping...Gets really annoying
Wait, so you used Youtube before google had it?
Yes, A lot of us did. Why is that surprising?
I don't give a shit about pay to download, I don't even download any. If I must download, I download using VideoDownloadHelper, which is free. And I don't even download any videos they sell.
Also I lol at how you think that if we get a new video website the record companies won't censor them.
I think I would be fine with youtube IF they disabled public comments as well as delete ALL comments from the site.
Are the comments useful or inteligent? No. Are they imformative? No.
There are some cases where it is helpful to have comments, though there should be some form of moderation or review process that has to take place before your video should be allowed to have comments enabled. If Google thinks it will lead to a mess filled with every racial slur known to man and then some... They stamp "REJECTED" on the top and move that document to the outbox.
My dad is hosting a video site similar to youtube. Hooray!
I'm starting to use Vimeo much more often. Youtube IS taking a lot longer to load.
Even if you hate goronchev with a passion, he is right about youtube and all. Because he's still is a idiot none the less.

Did I say something wrong?

Stating the obvious is obvious. Chad and Steve we got you now.

It should be easier to delete comments for movie uploaders, and when some turd starts to throw racial slurs, they should be autoflagged, unable to post for a month, and reviewed by moderators.

I was thinking about making a html5 based video site that uses the <video> tags.
It would be one of the first ones ever, youtube won't switch over for years until most of the IE userbase gets support for html5.
Thing is, bandwidth is a bitch once a site becomes big... especially a video site.
video google is awesome. I just watched a harry potter parody that made me very happy.
I don't know why people are complaining at Youtube when in places like Vimeo you have to pay to get the most out of it, at least with Youtube you get all the features for free.
Youtube isn't slow for me, although the adverts are annoying.
Youtube is rediculous, I got two accounts Perma banned cause of copyright infringement...
Here's a thought:
Find a video site that literally has all the videos I could ever need, then I'll move from youtube.
And that doesn't load slow as shit (youtube video's load slower as of recent but the site itself does not, while most other video websites do load slow).
I like youtube because I can look up any video I'm looking for and find it. It also has a MASSIVE collection of music, which means if I find a song I like on the radio but don't have the money to buy it (and I don't like to illegally download because they are always in some stupid 10gb "EVERY SONG EVER" music pack), it lets me listen to it at a decent quality.
You will never find all of the above anywhere on the internet ever again except on youtube. Simply put the advertsing and stuff is there (and it's not even very intrusive) because of all the above happening. There's a reason why popularity pays. In youtube's case it means it's gotta put up adds on the webpage, in Stage6's case because they couldn't handle that they got shut down.
This is why the idiots of the world population should never ever find this forum or any other better video site. Ever.
You're late.
Some programmers could get together and use Amazon S3, Cloudfront and EC2 to host, distribute, and convert videos to Ogg videos, so we could embed them with the HTML5 video tags.
The problem would be the cost. It would be sky high. And since most of you asses rely on ad blockers it wouldn't be able to survive unless it received a lot of donations.

OMG! YT AR CRAP WANT MONIES BAD!
Lets take a step back.
Is youtube forcing you, or anyone to purchase these downloads? Y/N
Answer : N
Has google ever forced you to buy something at all? Y/N
Answer : N
Is google, and youtube, the largest, most ergonomic, least evil search engine and video site respectively not just slightily deserving of some fucking slack? Y/N
Answer : Y
This is like fucking L4D 2. Valve has never let down it's customers but when they announce L4D 2 the whole community flys of the fucking handle. Now Youtube/Google offers a COMPLETELY VOLUNTARY pay for download service and you all go batshit!
God help us all that they have a ToS. I mean said company takes nothing from you AND they are supposed to deal with Lawsuits reaching into the millions from every record label imaginable. The "censorship" as you call it is them trying to keep the site from being sued into oblivion.
Now then, I will, for one, be continuing to use Youtube. I will occasionally click on their ad's so that they may earn some revenue during a recession. I will purchase L4D 2. But the one thing i will not do is jump on some great big youtube is full of fascists bandwagon.
The only man with logic in the thread.
Cant beat it, youtube is too well known.
Anyone got the firefox addon to download the videos now they switched the shit over?
You know, where it shows 3 buttons in the right on the youtube player.
Pissing me off.
