But how else would you start a conversation with him? I almost went to a John Barrowman book signing thing once, and it got me thinking, what the hell do you say to them without sounding like some weirdo fanboy/girl? "Ohmigod, I love you in X etc. etc." is obviously what they probably hear all the time, and would just shrug off as being just another mindless fan and probably give you the most lukewarm of receptions. Of course, if you were to just randomly meet them though, you wouldn't really avoid the topic either, that would be really weird too... So, what is our meet-an-actor etiquette? [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] -400th Post-
I dunno I guess I'd be like "Hey mate, I really like your acting" etc. Basically let them know I'm a fan but in a reserved manner, which would obviously be down better than the screaming obsessive approach. And at the end of the day, I'm not there to try and make friends with him or make more of an impression than any other fan, just that I'd like maybe a conversation and perhaps an autograph or photo if he has time, I'm sure he'd understand that too. I'd feel like a bit of a stalker if I carried on trying to meet him, once would be enough for me. It'd be weird if I could come in here and be like "Yeah Matt Smith is a pal of mine."
I wouldn't say a word. The guy likes to speed walk to places in hopes he doesn't get recognised. His has his iPod in in-case he does.
The guy likes to speed walk to places in hopes he doesn't get recognised.
This just made me realise how easy it would be to go insane (or at least severely paranoid) from all the attention. I probably would.
So, what is our meet-an-actor etiquette?
I gave Tom Baker Jelly Babies and spoke to him about the importance of story telling, his funny pictures, and ex girlfriends. He was VERY chatty and funny. I spoke to Patrick Stewart about Christmas Carol, because I guessed he gets tired of all these Star Trek things. Infact when I gave him my picture to sign (Which was of Christmas Carol) he actually did a double take, looked at me and smiled. Everybody else he just stared at the table and mumbled "Thankyou". That was nice. When I went for my photo shoot again he gave me another smile and said "Hello again". When everybody before and after me got NOTHING. This made me feel special. Joe Flannigan was just happy to have a teenage dude come to his desk instead of an army of middle aged women. We spoke very briefly about the future of Stargate Atlantis. Georgia Moffet, well that was embarrassing. I told her my name was paper, because I gave her a piece of paper with my name on. But I asked her what she was working on, and what was coming soon. I blanked out the entire time. Colin Baker, he just asked me what I thought of Matt Smith. Infact, he stood up, pointed at a picture of him, looked me in the eye and said "He's very good". It surprised me because I had never seen him serious. And I didn't even ask him. Tim Russ, who played Tu'vok in Voyager spoke to me a bit about working on Dragon Age. The best thing to do when meeting somebody on TV is to ask them something they never get asked, because you're going to look like a fan anyway, and they get asked the same stuff all the time.
I wouldn't say a word. The guy likes to speed walk to places in hopes he doesn't get recognised. His has his iPod in in-case he does.
That made me sort of sad. Awesome as it is to be playing such an amazing role, and getting pushed into the spotlight from relatively nothing, it must be sort of life-destroying, too. With Doctor Who being so popular, I bet he certainly does have trouble getting through an average day without being stopped by SOMEONE, and it must be pretty wearing, and even after he quits the series, it's prolly going to hang over him for a few years afterwards at least...
While I get it must suck being famous and having people you've never met before know who you are, I'd be fine with it if it meant I was getting paid the sort of money you get in his position. I know it sounds shallow or whatever, and it looks like I'm missing the point where you get no privacy etc, but I really think that the money he gets would be worth it.
Yeah, that's very true. And it's not as if people don't know what they're signing up for when they take on such prolific roles as this.

Where do I buy these shirts?
I linked the site, just click the shirts! They aren't coming in until the 6th of Febuary though :saddowns: I'm hoping they'll make some more shirts in that style, the 7th and 8th Doctor's suits would make a pretty cool shirt, the 10th and 11th could potentially be cool too. Maybe skip over Colin Baker's Technicolor Dreamcoat.. :v:

Just thought I'd share this with you. I was on holiday in the Isle of Wight last year, and stumbled across this: a Doctor Who Specialist shop. Just wall-to-ceiling Who-universe merch. It absolutely made my day. Its sit basically sells most Who merch you can get your hands on, past and present. When I went in, it had a pretty authentic scarecrow mask from the Family of Blood episodes mounted on a pole behind the counter. http://www.whoone.co.uk/
Just saw "The Empty Child" again Can't believe it had me shitting myself the first time I saw it, it just seems as frightening as an average Who episode now :v:
Seriously, evlbzltyr, you really didn't find it any scarier? I watched it a couple of weeks back and I still shat brix. Just me then. -forever alone-
It's simply because I know what happens in the end; the first time I didn't have a clue, all I knew was that there was a virus or disease or something that caused people to grow a gasmask out of their mouths and go insane, but now I know how it ends I'm fine with it :v:

Oh god, I am watching Vincent and The Doctor, why the fuck do they pronounce his name Van Gof? It's Van Go ffs, I don't care if your British, it's a gh not a ph.
Time needs to move faster. I need Who now!

This has no doubt already been covered before, and I await a hail of clocks, but this made a lot of sense to me:
Suranne Jone as Idris – a very important character in the Doctors life. Although Idris is preparing for death as the story begins, she doesn’t actually die. By the time the Doctor and friends meet her she’s gone mad and ends up biting the Time Lord. Source: Doctor Who TV http://doctorwhotv.co.uk/series-6-so-far-january-update-15002.htm#ixzz1Cj8UaVAQ
Well surely she's the Doctor's daughter, no? "Preparing for death" but "doesn't actually die". Well that riddle's easily solved - regeneration. Then she's "mad". Well, previous Doctors have got more than a little disorientated and weird after regenerating. What bothers me is this whole "the viewers have met her before" or something along those lines that has been mentioned elsewhere. If the writers are basically serving the 'new' audience (i.e. those who watched from the series reboot), and only bringing in prolific older characters and enemies, then no doubt this Idris is someone we're supposed to have seen already during the newer series. What other female characters aside from companions have been so important to the series? Sorry, looking far too deeply into this. Again. The speculation is driving me nuts. So... no harm done? Let's be honest, no Brit truly knows how to pronounce his name, even if we think we do. QI has told me this.
Could be Romana.
