just rewatched the waters of mars. The Doctor was such a dick in the end.
I watched the end episodes of Series 2 last night. It was a complete trainwreck. All subtlety out the window in the ridiculous cyberman/dalek shootout. It was rather pathetic.

Well found good sir. But could this mean that the new series (or the series afterwards) is gonna have [sp]a bit of swashbuckling?[/sp]

[sp]Who's she fighting though? That's not your traditional pirate there, unless they're just rehearsing. On location. Hmm.[/sp] Also (offtopic), the White Stripes have officially announced that they've broken up. This makes me sad.

Whoops, forgot 'bout those :ohdear:
As for the [sp]pirate[/sp] clips, there's a pretty comprehensive collection of their filming here: http://doctorwhospoilers.com/2011/ And evlbzltyr, in some of the clips, they're doing runthroughs/rehearsals (there's one video with Matt in his duffel coat [sp]rehearing a scene where he walks the plank[/sp]) and others where [sp]Amy is fighting the pirates[/sp] contain people that might be stand ins and random members of the production crew. I know there were some on hand for the [sp]rope swing[/sp] practises in any case.
Oh god, what. On the plus side, being late with this i'm glad John Barrowman and Eve Myles be in it. At least some sort of British involvement even if this is being run by RTD. [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline] Also i'll be using the first 40 seconds of this for my Torchwood title sequence. Decided to go against the original theme.
I preferred 'Torchwood: The New World' to 'Miracle Day'
I guess they thought that "Miracle Day" was more relevant to the story - whereas "New World" could refer to almost any sort of Sci-Fi development, "Miracle Day" is more related to the main idea of the human race becoming immortal. Also, "New World" sounds a bit cliched, whereas "Miracle Day" seems a little more original, albeit a bit simple and not particularly thought out.
Yeah it's more original, I just think it sounds a bit lame. Also Doctor Who V5 - Stetsons are cool
I still think "Miracle Day" has something to do with Jack's immortaliy being spread by some psycho pharmaceutical corp.
Doctor Who - Miracle we finally got to V5 thread.
How about just Doctor Who V5: Miracle Thread.
Doctor Who V5: V6 Title Discussion Doctor Who V5: Comrade General Sandpit
Doctor Who V5: Comrade free-zone; Please don't test this. [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline]
Who is making V5.
I'd like to :unsmith: But i'm all in favour of Dan as he's quite the regular.
Dan should be the one to make it, since he's made the most and is pretty good at it, but if people want to add to it they should post what they want to add on the first few pages. I mean, none of the regulars really look at the OP after the first few pages anyway, there's no need since we all know it and it's basically a guide to casual viewers and people who might be interested in it :v: Also, Dan usually picks good thread titles (this one was cool, I thought). Hmm, is the Doctor Who thread the longest running series of threads in Film and Television?
Dan said if anyone else is interested, they're more than welcome to. I like Dan's OPs but I think it's fair that Mr Agree should get a go too. [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline] but please don't name it anything to do with comrade general
Fair enough, I didn't see that If Mr. Agree wants to then it'd be a cool change I guess :3:
Thanks guys :unsmith: I'll get arranging the thread and save it in a word document until this one is locked!
Thanks guys :unsmith: I'll get arranging the thread and save it in a word document until this one is locked!
Check page 100-ish, I think I posted a draft of the thread there. [editline]3rd February 2011[/editline] ah here it is
just to clarify for the OP draft, as we know that the daleks are a nazi analogue, are the cybermen communist analogues? ah fuck it I'll just post what I have so far: [release]What is Doctor Who? Back in 1963 BBC commissioned one of the first GOOD sci-fi television series in history. It was about a time travelling alien called The Doctor who doesn't really get on with his people (The Time Lords) so instead chooses to show humans the wonders of the universe thanks to his time travelling device called The TARDIS. A box that is bigger on the inside than the outside. An interesting fact about The Doctor is when he comes close to death he can regenerate every cell in his body and cheat death. This means he has a new face, new personality and new actor. This was done for 7 actors before the show was cancelled in 1989. After a poor TV movie in 1996 the show returned with a bang in 2005. You can start from here and not miss much, but that's not to say the older episodes aren't worth a look either. Bear in mind that many of the earlier episodes have been lost because of the BBC's short-sightedness, something Who-fans will never forgive them for. 2005 saw Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later, GI Joe) play The Doctor, he left the same year and David Tennant took over. After becoming considered by many as "The Best Doctor" he left in 2010 after 5 years. Now Matt Smith plays the timelord. If you want you could start from Series 5 (2010 series) and get the idea of the show pretty quick. Oh. First, a few things you must know:[/release] [release]Stuff you should know before watching (assuming you start from 2005):

The show is about an alien called the Doctor
He is from the planet Gallifrey, home of the Timelords
When fatally injured, he can "regenerate" into a new body, with a new personality and mannerisms. However he retains his memories and his core values, such as anti-violence and eccentricity. In terms of production, this means that the actor playing the Doctor can quit while leaving the show to continue, and it allows each actor to bring something new to the way they play their incarnation.
He travels through time and space in a vehicle called the "TARDIS", which stands for "Time And Relative Dimensions In Space". On the outside, it appears to be a lowly police box, but this is merely a cunning disguise, as inside it houses things like a vast control room, library and (allegedly) a swimming pool.
The TARDIS can go anywhere and anywhen, but there are complex rules dictating the extent to which the Doctor can interfere with his own timeline, which can be loosely summed up as "wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey"
Sometime between the Eighth and Ninth Doctors, there was a "Time War" between the Timelords and the Doctor's greatest enemy, the Daleks. The Doctor was the sole survivor of the Timelords, and a few Daleks survived too. The Doctor's guilt over his race's death is a key characteristic of his Ninth incarnation.
The Doctor frequently travels with various companions from all of time and space. They are frequently used to answer questions about the situations they find themselves in for the audience.
[/release] [release]Characters of Series 5 The Doctor [img_thumb]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100516052635/tardis/images/thumb/5/5f/Doctor_sees.png/200px-Doctor_sees.png[/img_thumb] A 900 year old Time Lord who has saved the universe way too many times. Over the years The Doctor has been put through a lot of heartbreak but he hides it well. He has watched his friends die, his family and his people. It seems he is finally starting to get over it a little bit. His latest body is the youngest he has ever looked. He has a reckless and spontaneous personality. He fires words before thoughts and like most of his previous selves, he is anti-violence. This Doctor has a new TARDIS and companion. Unlike his previous incarnations, this Doctor has a soft spot for children. The universe could be falling apart but if you make a child cry, The Doctor will rip you into pieces. He’s a bit weird and a bit alien. But he is a master of speeches. If you get on the wrong side of The Doctor, hell is going to fall from the sky, and you better run. Amy Pond [img_thumb]http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100510134738/tardis/images/thumb/7/75/Amy_tells_Rory.png/200px-Amy_tells_Rory.png[/img_thumb] The Doctor crashed into Amy’s life when she was seven. Literally. He came back when Amy was a young woman, and he showed her the universe. Amy Pond is a little girl living out her dream fairy tale. Her parents mysteriously disappeared when she was young ... Rory Williams [img_thumb]http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100524110152/tardis/images/e/eb/Rory.png[/img_thumb] Amy's love interest ([sp]and as of the end of Series 5, her husband[/sp]), he is initially slightly beta and jealous of the Doctor, but through Series 5 we see him develop into a sword-wielding laser-shooting badass. River Song [img_thumb]http://images.wikia.com/tardis/images/c/c7/RiverN11.png[/img_thumb] An enigma. Neither we nor the Doctor know much about her as of yet, because due to time travel she and the Doctor keep meeting each other in the wrong order. She is superficially friendly but it is implied that she holds dark secrets about the Doctor's future. May be the Doctor's future wife. [/release] [release]Recurring villains The Daleks [img_thumb]http://images.wikia.com/tardis/images/2/26/Dalek67.jpg[/img_thumb] The iconic Doctor Who villain. They are mutated creatures housed inside an almost impenetrable tank-like casing. They speak in instantly-recognisable sharp, synthesised voices. Originally conceived as an alien analogue to the Nazis, they are the Doctor's most feared enemies. They are the ultimate ethnic cleansers that seek to exterminate all life that is different to them.
