Yeah. Perfect example - Star Trek TNG really broke away from TOS when it introduced the Borg, a new enemy, instead of re-using TOS enemies.
It had better be a new villain. I hope Moffat stops making each finale about an old enemy like RTD always did.
The only old enemy that was in the Series 5 finale was one Dalek, even then, it had a small part. I liked the series 5 finale, it had a nice vibe to it.
Then Voyager had the Borg in every other episode and the whole thing went to shit.
They were only in ~20 episodes out of the whole run of 168 episodes. In quite a few of those they weren't the main 'villans'. I think of them before the Dalek, I want Moff to milk them and make them really recognisable to even non who watchers. Just like the original writers milked the Daleks. [editline]01:06PM[/editline] And since it's being discusses, I like Voyager. That and TNG are my favourite Treks.

Showing them moving around in the two parter was kind of ass-y
it wasnt it was brilliance they move inbetween the film frames

I don't want him to milk them to hell, just the same amount the original writers did The Daleks, and how later producers did with Timelords. Even though that failed.
you realize daleks couldnt be taken seriously until 2005's dalek? because they were known so much they were seen as a comedy figure
During they airing of Doctor Who they were seen as an icon of fear, it was only during the Colin Baker and Mccoy years that they became an icon of ridicule. But in the 60's they were the scariest thing out, Doctor Who was close to be cancelled before the first Dalek episode aired and blew the roof off.
Doctor Who was close to be cancelled before the first Dalek episode aired and blew the roof off.
no it wasn't
Milking the daleks doesn't make them scary, though That just makes you sick of them, and they lose credibility by losing every other week only to come back.
plus in series 4 they were pushing camp with how ridiculous their voices became.
plus in series 4 they were pushing camp with how ridiculous their voices became.
what the dalek voices in series 4 sounded the same as ever
I never got how anyone ever found the daleks scary? They're not scary at all.
They're really not that scary and Moffat kinda killed the Weeping Angels by adding all those rules to them in the two parter, making them weaker
I'm just not sure if they can make the weeping angels a central villain. Not because they're not perfect antagonist material. They are. In fact, they have much of what makes the daleks so scary. Mountains of heartless beings, all one, all having a sort of calculated animalistic nature, actually caring about destroying even when one would think them beyond it. No, the angels are great for being a haunting villain. The problem is that they are new, and they are already common. The cybermen and the daleks are both so recognisable because they are unique to the show, and so everyone knows them. Even non-fans. It took alot to make the blue box recognisable, and even then, flying blue boxes are uncommon enough. I think they'll be a regular enemy, but the main one, i doubt.
actually the policebox is so recognisable the bbc owns the rights. AKA the metropolitan police(who created police boxes) cannot make more boxes without the legal consent of the bbc. also, does matt's face remind anyone else of Crispin Glover(george mcfly) at times?
Now that you mention it, yes.
actually the policebox is so recognisable the bbc owns the rights. AKA the metropolitan police(who created police boxes) cannot make more boxes without the legal consent of the bbc.
The BBC's justification for this is that the Met had over 30 years to register the trademark and didn't.
no it wasn't
Yes it was, the ratings were god awful, people thought it was ludicrous. Nothing like it existed on TV before. Plus, the episode is considered one of Hartnells worst, the first part being amazing, the following parts, NOT. One of the lowest rated things on television. The ratings more doubled by the second Dalek episode. All of you saying "DALEKS WERE NEVER SCARY". They were in 1960, it was a different world, fears change with society, fears in television are based on society at the time. Daleks were scary due to the changes in technology, people had no idea how far things would go, combine that with the fear of extraterritorial life. In 2060, people will laugh at how we ever found Blink scary, see them nothing more than stone Christian symbols with a budget cutting moving technique. And Time of Angles didn't kill the Weeping Angels fear factor, it did partly, but that was killed near the end of Blink when The Doctor explained how they work, before them they were completely unknown and in my opinion they should have stayed that way. Plus the Series 5 angels weren't intended to be scary. And it's still one of the greatest episodes of Who to ever broadcast in my opinion. No I can't remember the point of this post. But hell it's nice to get some Who discussion going. [editline]06:40PM[/editline]
actually the policebox is so recognisable the bbc owns the rights.
Fun fact, originally the TARDIS was a large mothership. But budgetary problems forced it to be a policebox

The parrelels between the Nazis and the Daleks are obvious, plus they had communist aspects what with it being the height of the Cold War.
Daleks were probably genuinely terrifying
the daleks is actually the most scary serial atleast IMO. because the daleks themselves aren't as much of a pisstake as they became later(EG, them cowering in the range of david tennant's penis or writing a will when he sneezes.)
also, does matt's face remind anyone else of Crispin Glover(george mcfly) at times?

(EG, them cowering in the range of david tennant's penis)
Your style of posting, You remind me of somebody.
what? i was pointing out that the daleks were afraid of tennant to a silly extent, even when he wasnt threatening. whereas if i saw matt smith walking at me i'd probably have a heart attack out of fear.
Oh nothing, ignore me. Just you join date, twitter account, an posting pattern lead me to believe you're an alt. But ignore me. I'm a rude fat headed idiot.
