yeah, but a European Federation would be stronger then the US, so we would be number 1, while they would come second.
Is that what this is all about? Being fucking number one? You just want to wave your European dick at America, shouting "WE'RE THE BEST! THESE GUYS CAN BACK ME UP!!". [editline]05:41PM[/editline]
Got a problem, asshole? So what? It could be a man from any country. What difference does it make? We're all human, after all. People, before posting, read some of the posts that have been made. Pro-EU guys made quite a lot of good, valid points while the other side is not justifying itself at all, instead it prefers to resort to blind hate.
http://somuchdamage.com/stuff/flash/Lenin.swf
Is that what this is all about? Being fucking number one? You just want to wave your European dick at America, shouting "WE'RE THE BEST! THESE GUYS CAN BACK ME UP!!".
In fairness, isn't that what America does?
How do you defend a country with nukes, wave them really angry? But yeah Frenchmen have been fighting quite well recently.
By recently, do you mean about a thousand years?
In fairness, isn't that what America does?
Oh so we're going to stoop to the level of the view ignorant Americans, the most patriotic country in the world. I think I understand you supporters in this thread now, its not really about being together but more just about sticking a middle finger at Americans. A new type of nationalism devoted to glorious European Federation comrade.
If this does perchance happen, we'll probably see Tony Blair take the center stage. Oh man I can imagine the shit-storm the Daily Mail would stir up.
By recently, do you mean about a thousand years?
I mean the past 20 years or so.
This sounds a lot like the Articles of Confederation, but not close to any united states
I mean the past 20 years or so.
They've always been powerful.
They've always been powerful.
But sadly lost WW2 and Indochina
But sadly lost WW2 and Indochina
They didn't lose WW2.
But sadly lost WW2 and Indochina
But they still trucked on in France during WW2 french resistance and all
They didn't lose WW2.
Well, I count having half of the country invaded and the other half fighting for the Nazis under a puppet-government until the Allied come to rescue them as losing. Like, if I beat your ass and teacher drags me out you didn't win the fight.
We generally say France lost WW2 (or IMO Pétain). The resistance was there, but that's mainly due to brave individuals. However they did well other times. Also to those saying it's like the USSR, did people in the USSR get a vote at any level of government? because in the EU you get 2 levels, even as it is. If it was to become a federation one would assume there would be even greater voter participation
we're an island ololol [editline]08:33PM[/editline] a bigger government can't be a good idea. different countries vote different politcal parties into power, which probably works better on a larger scale than one larger mixed bunch
You're forgetting that central europe, and the European Union revolves around coalition politics, something very different to the British of American governments.
Britain is part of the EU isn't it?
Britain is part of the EU isn't it?
Exactly, and the EU parliament is moddeled after central European democracies.
Britain is part of the EU isn't it?
It likes to think it isn't.
not all of us hate europe :(

Still, it's only human nature to want to be the best and to be prepared to what is necessary in order to become the best. Although this is all rather irrelevent really; I'm actually against the forming of a European superstate.
Out of interest, Churchill did advocate a "United States of Europe" but said that Britain shouldn't be a member, and should instead focus on relations in the Empire. Not that that worked all that well.

Shouldn't we begin thinking Human first, nationality second? We are not aliens or different spices, so why keep thinking that people from the middle east are inconsilable with the rest of the world, for example?
Britain is part of the EU isn't it?
It is, but they want to have special benefits from what I gather. It is after all not in the Eurozone and maintains a separate economy. Problem here comes back to ultimately how much autonomy should remain, and whether to fully federalize the system. The new provisions helps it edge closer towards that.
United States of Europe? Very original /sarcasm
Shouldn't we begin thinking Human first, nationality second? Cultures as I said again make a European Federation hard, what do you do about the age for sex? Some countries have 16 as the legal age while others have 18.
It is only human nature to set up countries and have national pride in said country, apparently that's wrong.
Human nature isn't necessarily right? Unless that's not what you're arguing.
