I'll be honest, when I first heard about it I thought it was going to suck like Quantum of Solace did, but I have to be honest after seeing this twice so far, it's definitely up there as one of the best bonds I've seen.
Just came back from it, great movie! [sp]It's nice to see this side of Bond and how big the agency is connected to him, and the villan is superb! Also, It took me sometime to notice that "Skyfall" as I thought by early on to be the list of infiltrated NATO operatives, but it started to make sense at the interrogation on his exams where he avoided talking about it and later on with his first encounter with Silva that told him that he had failed(one of the questions) because of early age traumatic incident, when noticing the sign "Skyfall" at the house in Scotland it all connected to me. Great work doing those connections throughout the movie.[/sp]
I know people are going to think I'm joking, but [sp]The skulls that kept popping up whenever computers got hacked creeped me the fuck out. I genuinely got spooked by a skeleton.[/sp]
Was I the only one who thought the artistic opening sequence was a bit halloween-ish?
Saw it wednesday. And I really enjoyed it. I haven't seen Quantum of Solace, but after hearing very mixed things have a morbid curiosity now. But yeah, Skyfall was really enjoyable in general. It didn't get boring, it was very well paced I think. The villain was great, well acted and kind of understandable in why he was doing what he was (unlike half of the old Bond villains who were just insane as far as I care). I purposefully avoided listening to the opening theme as much as possible because it's just part of the Bond movie experience, and it was worth it. It fit the movie well, and is actually fairly catchy. I have to say, the newer Bond films that i have seen have impressed me, but for different reasons. I liked Casino Royale because it was fairly grounded, it was plausible, not over the top, but still had that Bond feel. Skyfall seems to have struck a nice middle ground between the batshit crazy villains and over the top stuff from the older films, and the grounded, more realistic approach of Casino Royale. [sp]But holy shit, I lost track of the references to old Bond, Christ.[/sp]
shit i never watched the last one and barely remember casino royale i used to love bond so much, i feel so disconnected. honestly the last full one i remember watching is from russia with love this is like me forgetting indiana jones, just unforgivable [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] but i really wanna see this
Watched the film yesterday. Film was superb, as was Adele song too.
You don't really need to watch any of the previous Craig Bond movies. They don't reference them at all and the movie seems to be set after Bond had more than those two movies behind him. Hell, they even hint he should retire.
I saw it last night, It was fucking fantastic. My girlfriend was not happy that we were going to see it and when it was over she asked me to show her the other films. This is hands down (IMHO) the best Bond film to date. I was a tad drunk going to see it though, we went for a meal before hand and I decided to drink Martinis, I see now why Bond always has them.
You should watch the older non-Craig Bond films thou to pick up on some things. Mainly [sp]Bond's meeting with the new Q and how Q says MI6 really isn't into exploding pens anymore[/sp] That scene also really drives the idea that [sp]007 status, Q, M etc etc are just code names for said position and they aren't all the same person throughout the series[/sp]
[QUOTE=-nesto-;38300068]That scene also really drives the idea that [sp]007 status, Q, M etc etc are just code names for said position and they aren't all the same person throughout the series[/sp][/QUOTE] I always thought it was obvious that [sp]Q, M are names of positions in MI6. And 00 status can get any agent. The question is is "James Bond" aka "007" is also a status, or real name of agent.[/sp]
I was half-expecting [sp]his dad to be named Albert Bond[/sp] in a homage to the late producer Really good go watch it now, it lived up to its hype
I can't remember if its true, but I read somewhere that 'M' is something to do with the persons last name but I could be wrong. I'm also pretty sure I read that Ms name can be seen in Casino Royale when bond breaks into her house/apartment. [editline]3rd November 2012[/editline] I can't find it now, guess I must be dreaming it haha.
I think you're thinking of the bit where he says "I thought M was a randomly assigned letter, I had no idea it stood for-" "Utter one more syllable and I'll have you killed."
Most likely
Saw it last night, brilliant movie. Loved the reference to Goldeneye with Q's line about gadgets. One question though, where the hell did the villain get all his henchmen in England from?

[QUOTE=overpain;38311912]I suppose they were mercenaries.[/QUOTE] I still wonder how did they get their hands on a Merlin.
Just saw it, was pretty good. Loved the references. Have to say I prefer the "Bond on a MI6 mission" formula more than the "personal mission" type of movie though.

[QUOTE=acds;38316190]Just saw it, was pretty good. Loved the references. It was only personal for Silva, not even M cared about it on a personal level.

Also as Grizz said, looks like we are, at least in part, going back to the good old style (M in that office, Q [sp]and Moneypenny[/sp]). Also those rumours about the next Bond going to be black, were they confirmed or denied?

[editline]4th November 2012[/editline] Also literally just came back from this film. It was nothing short of incredible. The visual side alone was fan-fucking-tastic. I loved how it used basic colours and silhouettes a lot, created some really nice imagery. [editline]4th November 2012[/editline] And Silvia got creepy as hell when he revealed a certain thing about himself.
[QUOTE=acds;38317173]Also those rumours about the next Bond going to be black, were they confirmed or denied?[/QUOTE] He's probably in line to play it next or something. I wouldn't mind. As long as Bond the character is a British citizen it doesn't matter at all. He's been Scottish, English, and Welsh yet he can't be black? Aslong as he looks smart, dresses smart and acts smart while blowing shit up and says "Bond, James Bond" he's Bond. [editline]4th November 2012[/editline] I saw some brain dead comment or tweet say something like "You wouldn't cast a black guy to play John Lennon" or some bull like that. No you wouldn't. That's a totally different thing you idiot.
To be honest I wouldn't mind a black Bond but it would feel a bit strange, just because every other Bond has been white.
Honestly, I'd feel weird about a black Bond.
I always thought Bond was a white upper-class Englishman. Then again this wouldn't be the first time they are considering this, the imdb trivia page for Casino Royale says they were considering an Indian Bond
While the film was fucking fantastic, I couldn't help but laugh at the bastardizations of computer tech: apparently asymmetric encryption is something even MI6 has trouble handling, and not just the standard encryption method for logging into any website... Also how the code "fights back". I mean yeah, it wasn't bad; just nitpicking I guess.
