Discussion about the "Uncrackable" DRM Denuvo, claimed to kill SSDs due to write cycles
Combat as archer looked kinda cheap though. Unstealthing to get shot bonus? I don't really like how that works.
I did not say RPS review was invalid, just that I have no idea about it since I don't read it.
People say its good but I want to see the goodness, not read it. Too many hypes resulting in huge letdowns.
I'm not saying the game is fantastic, I'm saying that half of Facepunch is out to hate this game when so far everything we've heard says otherwise. It's ridiculous, even if you think the reviews are lies, at least wait for user reviews then before dismissing it.
Doesn't look like I'm missing out on much, also this fucking video.

why does he have such a tiny head. :v:
I suppose it would be an easy enough thing to test the I/O operations yourself with the right utilities, so it's not like something that only certain people can verify. Well, so long as you've already bought the game at least.
why does he have such a tiny head. :v:
because bioware doesn't know what proportions are
didn't miranda lawson teach you that?
So why are HDD's safer here? I assume cause SSD's have limited read/write? Surely it's almost as bad for a HDD though?
Is their any other confirmation other than a Russian guys word?
google yields nothing
What a piece of shit.
First you get shitty DRM bundled in to something you buy that only actually hurts you and other paying customers, then you put in piece of shit DRM that actually fucking harms your hardware?
I have the feeling that these severe issues aren't included in anything you agree to when buying and installing these games. Seriously, we've gone from annoying as shit to actually destructive and harmful. I know this is from the guys that made securerom which is practically malware, but I've never downloaded (and I've downloaded a lot) of harmful software that actually damaged my hardware.
I've stood by that I'm not going to purchase DA:I up until very very recently. All the good shit I've been hearing from trustworthy people actually made the thought of paying out for DA:I cross my mind.
Hey it is like starforce back in the day. Only starforce ate optical drives, not hard disks.
Ahhhhh Starforce. I remember that... what was that first game that ever had it again? Some kind of thing with light/medium/heavy classes, I can't recall. I just remember we all bought it thinking it looked amazing and spent maybe 3 solid days trying to play it properly without it crashing, locking us out or rooting our PC's. Those were the days...
This shit though, killing SSD's, that's just nasty. I haven't switched to SSD's yet though so thankfully I should be able to play LotF alright. I worry for those people who do play it on them though, I watch some livestreamers who run solely on SSD drives and are doing playthroughs / speedruns, ugh.
oh fuck
I have Fifa 15 installed on my SSD

So you can ride the bull and not get the horns.

If you've played it, grab CrystalDiskInfo and dump a screenshot of the health percentage from the SSD. Also saying when you first got it would be nice.
I have an SSD and have preloaded Dragon Age Inquisition onto it and plan on playing it on there. Ill do a now and later at the end of the week after playing it to see whats the damage.
-late-
So would this adversely affect a HDD? If so, how and how badly?

I'm not entirely sure if it was Starforce specifically but the X series ran with something like it briefly before they patched it out.
Anyway if the write cycles are really this crazy I would definitely be avoiding any games using this DRM. SSDs are still pretty pricy and I would be pissed to lose lifetime for this bullshit.

Any large number of write cycles isn't good for a hard drive but current SSDs are only able to perform a small fraction of what a normal mechanical drive is capable of. I think you'll be fine but it's just setting a negative precedent.
The pirates just cracked FIFA 15 today so I'm pretty sure it will be less than 2-3 days before Dragon Age Inquisition goes up on warez sites. They will be getting the objectively better version.

Yeah, I'm trying to return it right now, despite my intense want to play it.
He talked about how much he loved the choices and how he thought the combat was fun. He also said he liked the characters.
And just because RPS supports feminism doesn't mean their review of an RPG is immediately invalidated.
Lol, the game literally destroys SSDs and you're still trying to convince us it isn't bad?

Yeah X had Starforce for a while... I actually just remembered the game I was thinking of, it was called 'Breed' and came out in 2004. It was madness trying to get it to work, just madness.
I'm still sketchy on SSD's honestly, I'm one of those old fashioned luddites who hates batteries, only uses cash and thinks good old mechanical drives are the best thing since sliced bread. Lel.
It is cracked, I'm not gonna say where, I'm only going to say its in a russian tracker place
Even if you're right I can't help but read this post with an overwhelming sense of "Yeah my brother works at Nintendo so I get all the games early. No you can't come play them I'm under NDA"

Haha oh god I had totally repressed all memory of that game.
Getting that to work for even 5mins was soul crushing but I so desperately wanted it to work because I mean you could see the potential of a great game just beyond all the crashes.

I was on the fence for a while. I upgraded my PC and got one, and there's no way I'm going back.
Lol, the game literally destroys SSDs and you're still trying to convince us it isn't bad?
1. The details on this are shady at best. But we'll assume it's true.
2. We have no idea if it's effective DA:I.
3. Even if it did, that doesn't make the entire game shit.
4. I never tried saying it isn't bad, I'm saying that you people are raging against it when you haven't even played it, and just pretending like all reviewers are liars is just stupid.
5.
So far after playing about 3 hours of it and my only gripe being my GPU is shit I can say Inquisition is a good game.

I've been enjoying the game pretty much so far except for a few bits.
I cannot for the life of me create a decent looking character. Its a personal problem.
The Camera is sometimes totally retarded making it really damn difficult to target things that are above you, like rifts and especially so in the [sp]Pride Demon[/sp] fight during the prologue.
Some models have some fairly serious rigging issues, such as sometimes his entire arm becomes detached from his shoulder and you can see through the model.
The cutscene framerate lock is jarring when I go from watching something at ~60 fps to 30 makes everything look jittery to me.
Weapons and Armor are locked by class like in DA2. Hopefully we get some savvy modders who can get something to work on Frostbite and I can have a heavy armor mage again.
Aside from that like I said it feels pretty solid and it has been tickling my RPG scratch I've had for a while. On the topic of having "Just Head and Chest armor slots" you can modify your chestplate to have different leggings/gloves at the "Modify Armor" table. They actually have different models so you can visually see different armor pieces equipped.

Well I just played the game for about an hour. I made my character, imported Keep stuff and did a bit of tutorial. I also did a match of multiplayer. So, impressions. As someone who is a huge fan of Dragon Age series and loved the heck out of DA:O what I played so far was pretty damn good. The game runs rather well for me (yay!) hopefully it keeps running good. A stutter here and there happens but it's okay. The cutscenes for some reason are locked to 30 FPS so the transition between gameplay and cutscene can be a bit weird at first but I kinda got used to it (even though the FPS difference is noticable). I can't tell much about the story and all that but you see some familiar faces right off the bat! Also the Inquisitor is fully voiced and the character customization is HUGE. As for the MP, it looks like it's pretty fun and rather difficult (at least for now, cuz we're all noobs :v:) We wiped on our match on the standard difficulty. So far my biggest issue with the game is rather clunky controls (which is odd since DA:O and DA2 had really good mouse + kb controls). The movement and camera are fine, but the way you attack enemies and the way you loot stuff is odd to say at best. There is no right click enemy to attack and then just use skills, you have to either hold or keep clicking left mouse button at the enemy (or R button). Also you cannot right click on loot and let your char walk to it to pick it up, you need to move close to it and then right click.

It feels "dumbed down" as compared to the first game on adding attributes or configuring party behaviours. Other than that, really lots of content to keep you occupied

So why are HDD's safer here? I assume cause SSD's have limited read/write? Surely it's almost as bad for a HDD though?
Changing data on a HDD is just flipping a magnetic bit on a platter. A mechanical drive can do this until the bit becomes weak or gets stuck in some weird state, which can take a LONG time. Plus mechanical drives have cache RAM that frequently changed data is stored on so the RAM takes most of the abuse rather than the platters.
Changing data in an SSD EEPROM actually eats a tiny bit of the EEPROM away every time data is changed on it, so there is a definite finite number of times it can happen.

I just use RAID0'd two ST1000DM003s. It gets about the same R/W throughput as a SSD, just without the drawbacks of limited number of writes. The SSD still beats it in IOPS and latency, but I don't run anything that requires those two things.

"DRM can turn your home computer into a bomb"
Holy shit, only 100 hours?
Yeah I've played for an hour and some of it seems pretty bullshit based on current write/read counts.
Might be more apparent later
Pretty much can confirm that the update is a massive fucking lie. I've got only around 2gb read/write from the last 2 hours and not 30 in 40 minutes like that one guy.
Either its a problem with an old version of the DRM which isn't present in DA:I or they're lying or it isn't related to the game/drm.
How can you distinguish writes/read from DRM to Game code? It would mean somebody has actually reverse engineered it. Maybe the game is using lots of I/O, there is no technical proof and yet another rumor about this Denuvo thing.
