They don't complain about being retaliated against, they complain that the Japanese are allowed to continue their illegal practices and that the whalers actually do harmful things, not just disable the Sea Shepherds. The whalers were throwing back nuts and bolts that could seriously hurt someone.
In the end, the only thing that can be said is that no one should hunt down 100 year-old whales.
Even if it is just "culture" - these are beautiful, serene creatures.

It. Is. Illegal.
What part of Australian waters don't you understand? they are breaking Australian law. They are Criminals. The fleet should go back home and join the East Pacific whaling fleet were they can do whatever the fuck they want.
Last time I checked, japanese people were still human, culture does have an effect on the mind however they will never stop being human in nature. Also 128 million is a large number, are you saying out of 128 million not one of them thinks similarly to anyone else in the world? :engleft:
Let's call people idiots when we disagree because we can't think of anything else to say. Maybe then they will feel dominated and not reply.
You are an idiot though. You are saying the Japanese, who have a millenia-old and well-established culture that is near-exclusive to their island, represent the entirety of the human race. Of course they think similarly to others in the world on some topics, but that doesn't mean they are representative of the human race. Obviously you are against whaling, and they are against it, so do they really represent the views of the entire human race? Rhetorical question by the way.
The Japanese whalers should mount some of these on their ships.

They are not completely closed off on that island, people have been coming and going there for a long time. All humans have the same basic mindset, the need for power, wealth, greed. It is shared by all humans and is not exclusive to one culture or group of people.
One is not an idiot for having a point of view or an opinion. One is an idiot for doing stupid things such as that woman you referenced earlier.

You are telling me things I already know. I am telling you that there are aspects of culture that can be nearly exclusive to certain groups. Hunting whales is only really prominent in Japanese and Norwegian culture. Just because they do it does not mean everyone does.
Quit arguing if you don't understand yet, it's quite obvious.

LRAD Picture
They actually do have LRAD's on a couple ships, including the Nisshin Maru. At one point they pointed it at the Sea Shepherds' helicopter pilot, which would have been screwed up if he had lost control of his helicopter.
Though I don't support whaling/what the Japanese are doing, those Sea Shepherds are so damn annoying.
They're basically acting like pirates, except using a fairly good cause as an excuse to illegally harass and attack ships.
Seriously, sooner or later the Japanese will get sick and tired of this and blast the team and their "invincible ship" out of the water.

128 million, of whom you have no idea how many agree with whaling, are not representative of the whole fucking human race, and if you use them as your example you are fucking retarded. I'm sorry, but get a better reason.

Ok? The whale hunting thing is relevant to human actions everywhere on Earth. Americans may not hunt whales, but I'm sure they do things just as bad or worse as long as it includes getting money or power.

You cannot deny that humans are greedy in nature, it's just who we are. It is possible to have a discussion without everyone in it being highly obnoxious.

No they aren't, because they aren't stupid twelve year olds with a destruction fetish.
People have this thing called empathy, and usually it keeps them from killing people because of stink bombs.
It's not as much that it's illegal, it's that what they are doing is hardly for research. The entirety of their wanting to hunt the whales is for profit, it always has been. Japan has been whaling for hundreds of years, and they won't stop anytime soon. Captain Watson is a nutcase though, he has no idea what he's doing, and puts the lives of his crew below that of an animal.
There's a reason he was kicked out of Green Peace, probably because of half it's name.

Fuck I rated you disagree :( flinched last second.
But yes, Whaling is a cultural thing and cannot be connected to humanity in general. There are Americans and Canadians that still whale under the IWC subsistence whaling laws. They kill about 50 whales a year. They are the northern Natives that whale to survive, and because of their culture.
Whaling in Japan and Norway are the same thing. Whaling made those country's what they are today by greatly effecting their economy in the 1700-1800s. Same thing with the Faroe Islands. Whaling is a heavily culture influenced activity. Not every Japanese or Norwegian person likes whaling, there are many who oppose it. But for the more cultural people of those countries, it's their life.
This makes me lose faith in the human race, we care about nothing other then ourselves. We have to hunt and destroy everything on the planet, even if it is intelligent. Why can't the japanese eat regular meats instead of whale?
Why can't the Japanese eat regular meats instead of whale? That "regular meat" also has to be "hunted and destroyed".
I was wrong actually, Canada isn't a member of the IWC although they still do not actively whale. The Canadian natives can whale what they need.
Why can't the Japanese eat regular meats instead of whale? That "regular meat" also has to be "hunted and destroyed".
Yes I see my mistake now, though when better choices are offered people will not take it if it does not benefit them in some way. Whaling offers more money to the Japanese and it is an easy route to take, so they choose to do that instead of what everyone else is doing. It may be just as destructive with regular meats, however it is debatable whether those animals have the same intelligence and are worth preserving. Whales are not farmed, they could easily become an endangered species which is not true for pigs or cows.
Since when did this fucking argument turn into human greed? You said you lost in faith in humanity because of Japanese whaling, to which I said they are not representatives of the human race.
Which I implied it is done in part because of human greed, which is shared by everyone. So you could say I lost faith because of human greed, not Japanese whaling exclusively.

Yet.
I read a story somewhere that some Japanese cetacean researcher was trying to find a way how they could farm whales to study and eat.
Why don't the "Sea Sheppards" pool their dough and buy a world war two destroyer, For "personal use"
Whales are not farmed, they could easily become an endangered species which is not true for pigs or cows.
Salmon are endangered, yet we still hunt them. There are plenty of animals that shouldn't be hunted but still are, whales are just a well-known example because many see them as beautiful animals that should be let to live freely.
Do the whalers ever shoot harpoons at the hippies?
The Steve Irwin is a WWII Mine layer. :v:
Steve Irwin was gonna roll with them before he abruptly died. :( So they named the ship after him and his wife crissened(spelling?) it.
it is fun to watch the hippies get blasted with water cannons. :fuckyou:
"ow my eye"

what a fucking shock.

OUR. OCEAN. I think we should just torpedo them, Of course that is a great way to fuck up our profitable relations with japan.

I don't know if I would say it was your ocean. For example, if the U.S. so wanted, it could be their ocean.
However, yes, I agree that they should stay out of places they were explicitly told not to go to.

You guys were suppose to send the Ocean Viking after them at one time. and they sent her when the Sea Shepherds turned it into a "hostage situation".

Salmon can be farmed as well, it's just that people choose not to. Whales are one of the few intelligent and rare creatures on the planet yet nobody cares to preserve them. This is why environmentalists are important. People choose to make fun of or harass them because they are rebels but with a good cause.
