Alright now don't bring some stupid fucking new age bullshit into this. Whales are cool animals but they're still just fucking animals. They aren't on some higher plane of thought.
And people make fun of them because a lot of them don't know jack shit about anything and are just doing it because they have no useful talents.

Until the UN intervened. God don't you know anything about global politics.
Plus the US wouldn't just turn on its allies.
But yeah, That's the problem. They come into other countries oceans and poon our whales and nobody says anything because they're scared or something.
Fuckers!

Scared? Of Japan?
God, our leaders are such pussies when there isn't a barrel of oil to be had.
You guys were suppose to send the Ocean Viking after them at one time. and they sent her when the Sea Shepherds turned it into a "hostage situation".
Hostage situation is a totally valid reason.
The japan government isn't going to say "You can't kill these terrorists! they're ours!"
but "simple men on scientific fact finding missions" apparently don't deserve to die.

no it's just a bunch of weird stoners without drugs for 2 weeks while they throw stink bombs on giant ships
You all are assholes. The Sea Sheppard (Steve Irwin) are trying to save these beautiful creatures, but you want to blow up their ship, or kill them. The Japanese who are hunting the whales should be sent to prison.
Japan is a pretty tough bunch man. Plus a nuclear power I believe.
Oh pshaw. It's Japan. You could fit that country inside a thimble and you'd still have room for Turkey.

Maybe they could try to stop the whalers in a sensible and civilized way instead of being eco-terrorists and throwing jars of butter on their ship and being an annoyance the size of a fly.

Yeah, I agree with their message, their tactics, and their reasons, but God they're so fucking dumb.

Salmon actually can't be farmed with the issues surrounding them. Sea lions off the west coast are stopping salmon from reaching their breeding grounds, along with dams and other man-made obstacles.
I suspect whales will be saved, at some point when it is very crucial a bunch of scientists will descend upon them and bring them back up to a good population, it will just require a strong signal, such as "hey guys, there's only like 50 of them left lol!"
Maybe they could try to stop the whalers in a sensible and civilized way instead of being eco-terrorists and throwing jars of butter on their ship and being an annoyance the size of a fly.
That went out the window when we realised the whalers are a bunch of criminals.
"Scientific research" Fuck that.
I personally think if the UN could tighten the noose just a bit and make it a international offence to whale in someone else's water that'd be friggin' dandy.
Than we could pen some in for breeding and shit without having to shoo away hungry japs like they were feral animals.

E-mail your government reps to see what they are doing about it. You will most likely get an answer.
And at above(afew posts up) post. I consider myself an Ocean Conservationist. I do support whaling as long as it is well regulated and done so they cannot kill off or damage the populations. Minke whales are not endangered, so as long as they stay with Minke, and only hunt their quota, they will not greatly effect the species. My biggest problems are the techniques used to kill the whales are to slow and inhumane. And that the JWC seems to have absolutely no respect for their opposition or even the IWC for that matter. It is my belief that the IWC needs to better regulate the harvest, and have officials on every ship that kills whales to make sure they stay within their quota, and to make sure no species other than Minke ends up on deck.

No, I completely support the Sea Shepherds (by the way it is spelled Shepherd, not Sheppard), I just disagree with the methods they use to stop the whaling.
That's like taking a poor man from Brooklyn who is making a completely legal, albeit unethical living, and stopping him from doing his job, thus bankrupting him and ruining his financial status, which his family depends on.

The Minke whale is not endangered. There are plenty of them. Humans are at the top of the food chain and there is no reason why we should not exploit this whilst keeping the ecosystem relatively intact.

Because the whalers themselves devour the raw scrotums of the animals after every kill. They also have a bag full of harvested hearts.
Christ, it's people like you is why people hate environmentalists.

Like what? Whales provide many valuable resources, such as blubber, which I believe is used in cosmetics (or is that oil? or something else?) which is a billion dollar industry, the meat is perfectly edible, etc. There is very little difference between harpooning a Minke whale and shooting a deer. As long as both are done in regulation, there is no problem.

Bolded for retarded statement.
Who got further with the civil rights movement?
A)Malcolm X and his violent group of supporters
or
B)Martin Luther King, Jr. and his peaceful protesters
That's right, B. There are better ways of going about stopping whaling. Follow past examples.

You realize logging isn't a major source of deforestation?
No wonder you think whales are so fucking smart, compared to you they probably are.

Therein lies the issue, The jap government must throw whaling licenses from the back of a fucking truck.

The cosmetics industry is almost as retarded as the Televangelist industry.

Hurr hurr, look what's happening to the trees. "thars lots of 'em guys! cut em all down!" 50 years later... "we have no trees...we have no oxygen...were all goin to die!"
There are well over a billion trees- they are not in danger of all being cut down because of the fact that the public knows about the excessive chopping down of trees and most do not support it- the same is true for whales. There is also the fact that both of these organisms reproduce- it would be very hard to do enough damage to the Minke whale population to actually seriously begin harming it, especially due to the quota placed on the number of whales that can be killed. Not to mention the fact that your example was extremely lacking.
The cosmetics industry is almost as retarded as the Televangelist industry.
Good way to keep a troubled economy afloat by prising your hard earned retard dollars from your flabby hands in the vain hope of looking prettier though.

You are an idiot. Please read my thread on Trees. That is not the situation at all. The harvesting of trees is extremely well-regulated outside South America, we have a system of cutting them down and take conservative and preventative measures to stop from over-harvesting.
You are an idiot environmentalist who has no real clue of the issues they argue about, I suspect.
