The whalers deserve to have their shit fucked up as much as the people fueling the market. They're profiteering off of it and I guarantee could give a shit about anything they kill.
However if you're going to go rain on a whaler's parade grow some balls and do it right. Yelling at them and throwing smoke bombs on the deck isn't going to do shit, you have to sink some ships. Slowly make it too financially risky to run whaling operations. If you don't want to be a dick leave several life rafts and rescue beacons if the crew don't already have their own.
Get funding through the usual bleeding heart rich bastards, or one particular rich bastard who's old and doesn't give a damn if he's caught funding naval terrorism.
But again, skipping up and tickling their balls isn't going to make them do anything but laugh at you.

It's a fucking ship. There's water everywhere, not including all of the parts of the whale that they're fucking around with on there.
The Shepherds even offered to help find and rescue the crewmate that fell overboard.
It was never proven how the crewmate managed to fall off of the boat.
