A NYC Reporter and Camera man doing their job during 9/11
There was another video on liveleak years ago (might still be on there) which was recorded down the side of one of the towers and like 5 people all hit the ground / vehicles 1 after another and all you hear is a heavy thud / splat type noise and red mist appearing.
That has been ingrained in my mind ever since.
I think the saddest one has to be this:

It's not only because of the poor man letting go, but also that the same guy landed on a firefighter that was preparing to go into the towers, severing his cervical spine and killing him instantly.
At 0:56, that red mist is a jumper hitting a lamppost :(
Most people don't notice or can't wrap their head around it when they see it. If people need confirmation a lot of documentary's on TV will censor that little bit of the film.
For the sake of gore I won't tag these, but they're a little hard to see anyway

This is a picture that shows the railing broken and hanging where the jumper hit.

These red boxes show you where the railing is and where the remains of that Jumper are. Not circled are the Jumper remains on the other side of Ten Truck and the remains of a Jumper by the sign with the fire fighter running past it (there is another image of the Jumper laying by that sign)
Basically 9-11 was fucked up.
Wild shit. Are there more videos like this? I was in 5th grade on that day and our school told all the teachers to keep their TVs off. Always wondered why. Videos of news coverage of that day kind of explains it.
This video is another one that really illustrates the naked terror of that day. I think the Jumpers are probably the best example of the horror of the day because they're one of the few visible victims and they tell such a horrible story. There are other pictures that expose the truth that the media more or less censored. Body parts in the streets, literal blocks of NYC filled with human remains, things like this.

6:34 - You can see a Jumper fall, the camera follows him down to the plaza where you can see a dozen Jumpers have already landed and painted the plaza and windows with blood. The way that the human bodies work when they fall from 110 stories is that the blood 'mists' the oils, fats and things like that turn into a sort of gel and the body shreds it's self up. The remains throw themselves all over and the blood leaves a misting on everything beyond like ten feet. So the Jumpers doesn't leave a lot of blood behind, but a dozen of them ends up painting 'layers' of blood onto the windows and ground.
14:35 - The camera man follows another Jumper down who hits a stage in the plaza. You can see his head roll down the roof while the rest of his body goes through the tarp and hits the stage and falls behind it. You can see the roof has multiple holes which are all from Jumpers. Several cameramen took pictures of the stage throughout the day and you can see more and more and more holes appearing as time goes on.

Same happened at my school. I was in 4th grade at the time. Afterwards they school shut down and everybody got sent home. Pretty much the second I walked in my house I saw the TV on showing what had happened.
I've heard of some elementary schools that told teachers to turn on the TVs.

That's insane. I can't imagine what was going through the peoples minds, I honestly dunno what I'd do in this situation. I know jumping to your death is instantaneous but the thoughts they must of had while falling, Jeez...

These people were jumping from above or sometimes in where the plane had hit, both planes completely destroyed the emergency stairs from those levels above (with exceptions to the south tower, the plane came in on an angle, people above those floors were able to use the stairs, the north tower they werent)
you have tried to open the door, youve tried to call the elevator, the WTC building management is useless and the room is filling with smoke
you have now accepted you're going to die, you know you will never escape alive, You've got 3 options, you die from structural collapse or smoke inhalation, both of which are slow and painful. Or, you break a window and dive to the concrete ground. The fall will take 10 seconds but you will die instantly.
If I was in the towers that day, that high up and I have exhausted all my possible options, I would jump. I would probably have to force myself to but i know its the quickest and easiest option. Id prefer fast than slow. That's just me tho
Seeing stuff like this always make wonder why people do 9/11 jokes (and jokes regarding similar mass-casualty events) and laugh.
This will always just be incredibly tragic and sad.
This is going to sound like a joke, but I'm serious.
Was there anyone crazy / smart enough to have a parachute and was there a survivor that used one?
Has it become more common to have alternative escape plans, like parachutes or a mechanism to rappel to safety?

I think taller buildings have more safety routes and have to be made of stronger material now. Dont think theres anything like a parachute plan because that can cause more loss of life than it would prevent, with people fighting over the handful of scarce 'chutes.
Edit:
According to this site a few things did get updated
Elevators are required in high-rise buildings more than 120 feet tall so firefighters can get to, and fight fires, without walking up from the ground floor with heavy equipment;
An additional stairway for high-rises that are more than 420 feet tall;
In lieu of the additional stairway, an option to provide enhanced elevators that can be used by the building occupants for emergency evacuation without waiting for assistance from emergency personnel;
A higher standard for fire resistance in high-rise buildings more than 420 feet tall;
More robust fire proofing for buildings more than 75 feet tall, which will be less likely to be dislodged by impacts or explosions;
Shafts enclosing elevators and exit stairways that have impact resistant walls;
Self-luminous exit pathway markings in all exit stairways that provide a lighted pathway when both the primary and secondary lighting fails; and
Radio coverage systems within the building to allow emergency personnel to better communicate within the building and with emergency staff outside the building supporting the response.

Tragedy plus time equals comedy.
If you treat such events with any negative emotion, be it sadness, anger, fear, terrorists essentially win.

Because it's how people cope with the literally unfathomable grief, anguish, anger, and loss of families and human life. I cannot, and hope I never come close to being able to, understand the emotions and hellish calculus that people had to do in the towers and at ground zero. Let alone when you multiply that by everyone who was there.

Comedy is the natural evolution to tragedy
Otherwise we stagnate in anxiety, sadness, fear
Around half of YouTube commenters on this video seem to believe it was faked.
There are loads of pics floating around of the aftermath of jumpers as well, limbs and stuff that have flown off and landed in the street somewhere.
IIRC when people are travelling at those speeds and hit a hard surface a lot of the body liquefies/explodes instantly on impact which is why there is a red mist. I think there was a weird part at the base of the towers people kept hitting as well which was shredding them into pieces.
Still remember this fucking day, I was only 3-4; still believe it was one of my first memories I can think of when I remember my childhood, I remember clear as day walking into my living room after a day at nursery, my mum was shook up but my dad never heard the news, so me and my dad decided to go on the play station to play Battletanx, then my mum came in half way through a game and switched over the TV to Sky News, and we all just watched what was going on, I never really understood until later on in life how bad 9/11 truelly was, and even now videos like this pop up and I sit there and watch and think how bad it actually was, especially with the footage of the jumpers leaping to their deaths
Its interesting really, to think that my generation has grown up with all this information fed into their brains at earlier ages and such, like I still remember sitting there watching the invasion of iraq and the live stream footage of Baghdad getting bombed to absolute fuck just after this
the world of journalism, as much as we might joke about it nowadays with all the fake news bullshit, really is a gem of pulling the nation together and thinking about one another in a serious time of crisis, and its even crazy to think that the whole world was watching their televisions that day
I still remember that day. It was three days after my birthday so I was still pretty pumped about presents and stuff. Then I remember running into my parents room and seeing mom staring at tv completely speechless - she turned the tv on right after the first plane hit the towers. I just turned 6 that year.
I was in kindergarten in Louisiana that day. We were having a regular day up until all the teachers leaving for a solid 30 min and then bringing out the television on a cart showing footage of what had happened. At that point in time, I didn't see what the big deal was. Somewhere in my kid brain I thought "well, planes fly high all the time, and skyscrapers are really tall, so this just must be like a car accident or something, right?" My birthday was two days later as well, and my parents tried to do something for me, but I knew something was wrong. Hard to believe it's been so long ago.
I remember the teachers rolling in tv's so we could see it. I aso remember we were taking a flight on the November 9th and it felt rather surreal.
This one's one of the spookiest 9/11 videos I've seen.

How much film was captured of the first plane impact? I only know of one clip where someone caught it on a dashboard camera in their car.
