Was it in your contract (I assume this is an apartment) that you couldn't open the window? If not, you cannot be at fault. Opening a window in your apartment is your damn right. Unless the manager told you specifically in a contract that you were forbidden from opening the windows and you signed the contract, then you would have absolutely no legal responsibility whatsoever. If anything, if the manager knew opening the window would cause a problem, then he/ she should have nailed the window shut. Sounds like she's saying that so YOU don't sue HER (which you should definitely consider doing).
