Punishment isn't really needed, it's just that the connections between parents and kids are weak and parents are too lazy to teach children what is right and wrong.
Abusing a child doesn't make them turn out any better. You're only 20, stop acting like you know how to raise a child.
A local kid of mine got smacked by has dad with a belt. He smacked him back and the dad never hit him again.
Fuck, I hated the belt.
This is a funny troll thread, I lol'd. :)

Blame this man, he almost single-handily brought about the little shits that caused the Counter-Cultural Revolution of the 1960's, which in turn caused the shitstorm we are in now.
I may speak for a fair chunk of the population when I say that I've noticed a fair decline in the amount of respect and discipline that the younger generations have today.
From what I've heard from parents and the older generations is that it all started when the country abolished corporal punishment.
Thats right.
The Belt.

Generations of little shits giving birth to even worse little shits.
Each generation's discipline even more worse as the last.
Get them early. Get them young
In school.
With the belt.
Crime drops 300%
I mean, whats up with suspension and written punishments.
Has anyone seriously thought that they worked?
I think only parents should be allowed to physically dicipline their kids. Simply because in my days at school I had some teachers take a dislike to me for no apparent reason. One seemed to love the bullies and think they were hilarious but was always horribley harsh on the quiet kids like me. It pisses me off as I had the best grades in the class but was really shy and picked on, yet that fucking cow did nothing even though she saw everything. That teacher gave me an extremely harsh detention for missing a homework deadline but the girls who would openly bully me in class got away scott free with whatever they did. She found them funny. This bitch was my head of year for two years too. If I was wacked with a belt in class I would have started skipping school. Teachers sometimes get this superiority complex which isn't fair.
Besides if parents dicipline their kids properly then the teacher simply has to contact them and the little shit knows they're going to get the punishment they deserve for being a fucktard. Teachers have hard time nowadays I agree as they can't really do much to get through to these kids. However some teachers would abuse the power of corporal punishment and victimise certain kids that they just dislike. Especially if the kid is one of those who gets bullied already as they're just going to make school an even tougher place to be and encourage many more kids to drop out of education when they could have done so much better. Sure people can be bitches in the real world but I have never come accross such harshness as what I saw at school from kids *and* teachers.

what a bitch man you shouldve killed her
When I was growing up a got beaten every day for everything I did. Didn't take out the trash? Beating. Looked at my parents funny? Beating. Burping? Beating. They'd sometimes use weapons like knifes and sometimes fire. They'd never let me eat anything I had to find food for myself. And sometimes They'd rape me. But this wasn't child abuse it was discipline and my parents loved me very much and I turned out just fine

I'll leave these here for you.
You are right on some things though, delinquancy cases in court and dropouts are on the rise since 1985, but I think that dropping our is more likely because of unequal education in the school system for impoverished peoples as well as no child left behind, and that delinquency has actually declined significantly since 1960. By the way, two of the reasons that the statistics for crime are even that high is because of new laws and the fact that arrests for pot are on the rise. Just something to think about.
You know some scientists have shown that it fluctuates. You have strict/mean/punishing parents whose kids are more disciplined. Those kids become liberal/nice/unpunishing parents who give birth to undisciplined children. Those kids grow up to be strict/mean/punishing parents, etc.
Wait until this generation has time to make kids and you'll likely see that things will get slightly better. Of course overall there's a decrease in discipline int he world as far as children go no matter how strict the parents, but that has more to do with society and the media and the world going down the shitter and less with parenting.
I know if I get kids (and I don't want any) if they do something they shouldn't they're getting a nice slap across the face.
My parents are liberals and I'm pretty damn disciplined.

What about the time from 2002 to today? Wouldn't the Bush emphasis on abstinence-only education affect those rates?

Abstinance only doesn't work so maybe, I was listening to NPR the other day who said that it's still falling, but I couldn't find anything after a quick google search.
That's interesting that it's still falling. How long until we get in line with Europe?
That's interesting that it's still falling. How long until we get in line with Europe?
Depends on what part of europe you're talking about. I didn't look into it that far because I'm also working on another paper, but it probably varies from country to country.

Kinky.
It really just depends on how the kids are interacted with at an early age. If, at that infantile stage, they are already being given consequences, etc., things turn out much better. I was only ever spanked when my whole family was in a bad mood, and honestly, I've turned out fine.
BTW, I'm part of the generation you all are hating on, and... I think I hate my generation too. Just not in comparison to previous generations: they get, "Worse," and, "Worse," but are just as bad to every smart kid growing up in them.
You're not my father you fucking cunt
i dont have to listen to you

And the remaining percent of crimes get more persistent, gruesome, and hardcore.
While it may discipline some children, it also gives many others mental issues and explosive violent tempers.
I can empathize with the OP in some areas, I have met a few kids that really need a large open palm slap across the side of their head. But if parents were allowed to beat their kids, then it'd happen to a lot of kids that don't really deserve it

maybe the parents just suck and violence isn't the answer?
ITT: 12-year-olds stating that children need more discipline
ITT: 12 year-old stating 12-year-olds stating that children need more discipline...
I am still in highschool and I behave pretty well, but when I see other people just being flat disrespectful and stupid, I wish they could be paddled by the teachers really badly. It's not so much about the pain really, it would be the embarrassment.
I got spanked for doing stuff wrong when I was a kid. Result: I rarely do anything wrong. Also my school still has the paddle. We have about 5-10 fights a year.
ITT: complete fucking idiots that think they have the knowledge how to raise a child despite never having gone through the process and are incredibly unlikely to ever have a child of their own.
I tell it like it is
