People whipping kids with belts are just sick sadistic assholes seriously, just take away something the kid likes or if the kid did something really bad a light slap on the cheek + something taken away should do. Give the stuff back when the kid does something good.
There's a large patch of annoying stupid people in our society, but there always was. Everyone in my group of friends is really well behaved and nice people, and a lot of us don't even have parents who do anything for punishment.

I got pinched in the back of the neck when I was bad. It hurt like a bitch but meh.
In the past arseholes didn't reproduce, but in the last generation they did, so we've got more of them.
Physical punishment (aka spanking) works when a child is young (pre-teen.) The reason being is that children's minds are still developing and the physical punishment sends a very clear message that what they just did was wrong. As they become teenagers, grounding and those punishments quickly become the better option, but spanking still as a now more humiliating last resort. Now as I've said like a broken record every time one of these threads pop up: Spanking first, time to calm down second, sitting down and talking to the child about why they were spanked and that you still love them third. That's the key to making spanking a truly effective means of discipline instead of a method which causes personal issues later on in life. Biggest problem is spoiled brats. Parents spoil their children too much, that goes for just about everything, including letting them watch whatever movie they want, buying a toy for them when they keep whining and carrying on like a sick dog, and the parents doing little or nothing when the child does something bad. Spoiled children are a good sign the parents think that raising a child is like having a bloody pet in the house that they just got to feed and clothe, and not realizing exactly how hard it is and how much work it takes to raise a child to be a proper adult.

I never had the belt, but when I was little I had the odd spank. and now I'm only an arsehole on the internet (sometimes).
In the past arseholes didn't reproduce, but in the last generation they did, so we've got more of them.
No, they always did. Why wouldn't they?
Why do you guys care what little shits do with their life anyway? It just means less job competition, and a better chance of you being able to do what it is you want to do in life. Sure they may piss you off every now and then, but you get the satisfaction of knowing that you are better than them everyday. If its not my kid, its not my problem. If people want to waste their lives being assholes, it just means I have more job security. Don't want those pesky kids on your lawn? Invest in a Doberman or two.
No, they always did. Why wouldn't they?
cos they couldn't get a wife
I am ashamed to live in a world where parents are too pussy to beat their children.
It's more that the parents of the more bratty kids are idiots. My parents were nice to me growing up, they taught me my manners, right from wrong, etc. And look how I turned out! :q:
I've done exactly what i've been told through life simply through fear itself. I don't like authority at all simply because it's restricting in many ways and very demanding when I want to do something, if my dog drops a shit in a park I'm forced to clean it or pay $250 because it might be a nuisance to someone who steps on it by accident.
I may speak for a fair chunk of the population when I say that I've noticed a fair decline in the amount of respect and discipline that the younger generations have today. From what I've heard from parents and the older generations is that it all started when the country abolished corporal punishment. Thats right. The Belt. Generations of little shits giving birth to even worse little shits. Each generation's discipline even more worse as the last. Get them early. Get them young In school. With the belt. Crime drops 300% I mean, whats up with suspension and written punishments. Has anyone seriously thought that they worked?
I agree thoroughly
Easiest way to get a child to shut the fuck up: beat it. When it doesn't need yelling at to get it to shut up: reward Seriously, if it works with dogs, it'll work with kids

I'm 14, and here's my perspective: There are a huge amount of children in my generation that are completely without discipline and need to be taught it. I believe that physical punishment could be used - not to cause pain just embarrasnent in front of the class. However I think that many would hit back and overpower the teacher especially if their freinds were in the class.
It doesn't matter man, you react on things on your subconscious, and when you're beaten when you do something wrong, it sends your subconscious the message "Don't fuck up bro". So you naturally try not to fuck up more, even if it's 10 years into the future.
Only if you don't think before you act.
Sitting at a computer typing out a response on an internet forum.
Awful, awful parents allowing their child to have a computer!
I sort of agree, it's not really right to hit kids, but the little 8 year old chavs need to fucking learn who's boss.
This is the same story for the past 5,000 years. There's always a positive and negative group. Honestly
Intresting discussion chaps, Personal I belive that they need to be taught young. Fair enough some kids can be raised to be outstanding citizens, but the other 95% of arseholes out there need to be taught a fucking lesson by their parents.
The reason they think that suspension is a punishment is because a suspension is one of the few things that stick with you (besides grades and SATs) to college. It can be something that makes or breaks getting into college. Of course they never explain this to the kids who get detention so the threat is moot.
The problem is that the people they're punishing with suspensions are generally people who aren't planning on going to college anyway. They're just there until they reach the age to drop out. I think, as a motivation, the public school system should punish some people by making the age that they're allowed to drop out 1 year later. If you're a dick, you're stuck in that hellhole.
