You guys should definitely make a thread in the General Game Discussion sub-forum, once you're ready of course.
What is your programming background/education/how.. ?
Well, I have been working for several months now on the project, but I guess [DH] or Hykem (the guys who started RPCS3) should be the ones answering this question. My programming background comes from http://en.cppreference.com/ and the motivation to learn it comes from this site: http://projecteuler.net/ It gave me interesting challenges with increasing complexity, which forced me to learn almost everything I know today about Python and C++. Yeah, and StackOverflow was also very helpful. Btw, some bitches flagged the video claiming it was recorded on a real PS3, here is another demo running on my machine:

There's nothing wrong with the game except low FPS. That's absolutely incredible.
The day this emulator can run MGS4 will be forever marked in history.
The day I can play RDR on PC will be marked in history
The day I can play RDR on PC will be marked in history
I can imagine InFamous 2 would look really beautiful in 1080p aswell
Oh man, this means I might someday get to play Demon's Souls.
Oh man, this means I might someday get to play Demon's Souls.
By the time this emulator is able to play that game properly, the PS3 is going to be very cheap and you're going to need a very expensive rig to run this emulator, if you really want to play that game, you'd be better buying a ps3

It wouldn't be 100% smooth, but i probably would be able to run it by then.

The other will be a download on the internet for many, many years. Emulators do more than just running games on the PC, they can act as a sort of "museum". You can't get a perfectly working NES that easy nowadays, and it's going to get even more unlikely as the years pass.
Trying to understand the technical part of all this just hurts my brain. All I know is that you guys are possibly making something that'll let me see Bayonetta's booty in 1080p sometime in the future. And that's good enough for me,
Now that the PS3 emulation is in the works, I'd like to see a 360 emulator, although I really doubt that'll happen, because if I recall correctly the original Xbox still hasn't been emulated even remotely well. Although I believe that was just because of the odd GPU setup being used in the console. So many good 360 exclusives out there that I'd like to play some point in the future. Stuff like the Halo series (assuming it doesn't get released to PC), the original Dead Rising, Gears of War 2/3, Crackdown, Forza, and all the 360 exclusive XBLA games. But, now that I think of it, the PS3 had FAR better exclusives. MGS4, the LittleBigPlanet series, Resistance, Infamous, etc.

They all have different architectures so anything can happen at the moment. I personally cannot wait until we have usable 360/PS3 emulators everywhere, so I can play uncharted at 1080p and dead rising etc on PC.

Although I believe that was just because of the odd GPU setup being used in the console.
From what I can tell, the main reason there's no Xbox emulator is that there's not really many good games on it, and most of them got PC ports eventually. High-level emulation seems to have difficulty with emulating DirectX, since apparently the optimizer inlined a lot of driver code. That's not an insurmountable problem, just a tough but boring one. And the original XBox has basically nothing in common with the Xbox 360 from a technical standpoint - it's not at all like the Gamecube/Wii, where one emulator could literally run both with a little modification since all that really changed was the controller. As for the 360, there's currently an emulator in development. It's not usable yet either, but it seems well-along, and the blogs he writes about it are very, very interesting (also pretty tough to understand).
There is an Xbox emulator, but development is extremely slow, if at all moving
Exciting! It's gonna be really cool to see some PS3 exclusives get properly emulated on a PC in the future
RPCS3 developer here.
Dolphin Emulator dev here; wish you guys the best of luck :) Might try contributing more consistently in the future when I have the time (currently only sent a fix for an array out of bounds access a few weeks ago).
Didn't want to make a new thread, so I bumped this old one. This way we can also see how far the emulator has come since original post from 3 years ago.
Holy shit I had no idea this thread was 3 years old. It's like experiencing Christmas twice in a row.

I remain hopeful that It can emulate MGS4 in the future
Holy shit I had no idea this thread was 3 years old. It's like experiencing Christmas twice in a row.
Not realizing how old this was, I saw a post really early on in the thread and wanted to reply to it, only to see that I already had, in exhaustive detail.
I remain hopeful that It can emulate MGS4 in the future
Someday. In comparison emulation for the original XBOX is still stagnant.
Someday. In comparison emulation for the original XBOX is still stagnant.
I dunno, XQEMU seems to be sharing the same kinds of breakthroughs that other emulators are getting.
How come Wii U emulation is so far ahead while PS3 emulation takes so long even though it's 6 years older?
How come Wii U emulation is so far ahead while PS3 emulation takes so long even though it's 6 years older?
Probably the type of CPU it's running, iirc it was a weird one
Because the PS3 runs on a CPU with a really weird architecture that no one really has access to the technical details of.
The Wii U emulator may also have access to the source code of the machine. Though they're obviously smart enough to not let anyone know if they do.
I remain hopeful that It can emulate MGS4 in the future
I want to live in a future where MGO2 can be brought back fully functioning on PC
How come Wii U emulation is so far ahead while PS3 emulation takes so long even though it's 6 years older?
None of the big talent is interested
