Slender Man V5 - "OH GOD WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT" Edition

Spoilers for a lot of everything follow.

The Orchard is only mentioned in several ARGs and blogs, such as TribeTwelve and Dreams in Darkness. The Orchard was first brought up (Correct me if I'm wrong) in Dreams in Darkness [sp]when the main protagonist Damien has a nightmare where he and his dead friend Ted are sitting under trees. Slender Man is staring at them, and their organs are spilling out of a cut in their bodies. Ted turns his head toward Damien, opens his mouth to speak, and spiders pour out. [/sp]

The name was adapted later. Other blogs speak of that same place, and in TT, it is mentioned only in Base64 on a picture on Noah's twitter. It says "He took me to the dark place today. no light graces this place." It is believed that the 'dark place' (which is now another name for the Orchard) is, well, the Orchard.

Spoilers for Dreams in Darkness follow:
[sp]It is later revealed by the Arsonist (an antagonist in DiD) that Slender Man has Damien's friend's souls there, and he tortures them for eternity. Damien has a chance to free them, but he commits suicide shortly after being dragged there for a short period of time. (I believe that's why he killed himself, correct me if I'm wrong.)[/sp]

I don't think we should be trying to find out what exactly Slender Man is using different vlogs and blogs to be honest. They all contradict each other so much it would be impossible to find one canon explanation for Slender Man. If anything we should be trying to find the canon explanation and motivation for Slender Man on a series-to-series basis. I doubt any of them will even confirm anything anyways.

MarbleHornets might give a canon explanation for The Operator, but that's because they insist that their series is not about Slender Man, so I don't think they really feel obligated to follow the mythos that closely.

Am I the only one who's bothered by how much the new Slender Man mythos takes from MarbleHornets? Masked Men 'proxies' who type in code and leave TTA style videos? Camera distortion? Slender sickness? Slender Man not actually having a face? None of this was in the original Victor Surge mythos. It was all MarbleHornets that came up with that. Hell, not even 'Just Another Fool' had any of that stuff. I mean the stories nowadays rip off so much from MarbleHornets it's not even funny.

Because personally, I don't see him doing all this without a purpose. He's not a hunter, he's the chess player and all these people are pawns..

I feel the same on both of those statements.

Although, there's never much wrong with a little cliche now and then. However, I think that before [b]anything, canon or not[/b] happens, the Mythos needs a rest. A long rest. Every intersecting path needs an end eventually, not run in one huge web.

Everything needs to stop, and everyone who wants to start another Vlog or blog needs to get their shit straight, to be honest. [sp]I am hypocrite though. Our group rushed into it too quickly, and I will wait a while before starting into the Slender shit.[/sp]

I concur. The Slenderverse seriously needs a rest. There is no quality control and every single series that is apparently canon to another are walking all over the canon of everyone else. It's like an internet fad that got really stupid really quickly.

It is kind of sad to feel sorry for an Internet legend. It's concept is great. It did not deserve this mess. That is what happens whenever something that uncontrolled is released among the populace. Something so easy to replicate.

Yeah. I feel bad for Victor Surge. He had a great idea for an internet urban legend, and it was pretty well done at first (Just Another Fool followed the mythos really closely. MarbleHornets didn't, but made up for it in quality), and there are still some good things, but the vast majority of it is shit now.

Yeah. It's been accepted into the mythos as a 'calling card' for Slender Man, but it's stupid. I mean in MarbleHornets it makes sense because it's The Operator and his symbol, but in the rest of the mythos it's only there because MarbleHornets is popular.

I feel like I've seen this post before, and that you're plugging a vlog that is your own.

Right here. This includes the original mythos by Surge and the offshoots by the SA community, which for most people are all considered together because of their relative vagueness and avoidance of origin or backstory for Slendy himself.

But I agree with you guys. This awesome concept has been torn in a million different directions and everyone calls it canon. I think that's really ruined what we think of slendy today. Honestly, I've been very tempted to try and do something myself that doesn't rely on MH or anything that came after it, and focus the core ideas, but I don't want to end up like the others.

I've always wondered why nobody being stalked by Slendy had a gun, or at least a baseball bat. Stick a few razors in it like in Hobo With A Shotgun, hit that fucker in the face. I'm sure he won't look so scary with a missing arm, especially since they look thin enough to remove in one hit.

They say it's not Slender Man because they don't like the mythos at large. Joseph said that they thought it was stupid in a radio interview, and EverymanHYBRID was the only one they said they liked, I believe. I mean he probably wasn't The Operator for awhile. It was only later on that they said he wasn't Slender Man.

I'm kind of bothered if they don't follow the mythos because if they want to be creative they should create something new, rather than mutilating a pre-existing mythos. I mean, there has been so much character derailment throughout the short time Slender Man has existed, it's kind of crazy. I mean it's just like everyone is writing fan fiction at this point, frankly.

By the way, has anyone been following HABIT's Tumblr posts? As much as I love EverymanHYBRID, whoever is writing those (Jeff I presume) uses so many cliches and has such a villain sue that the entire series in general is becoming less interesting. They're up against a spirit that can control a bunch of people at the same time, can make his body completely invincible, and can just jump to a new body if he wants. It's such a curb-stomp battle waiting to happen, the conflict isn't even interesting.
