Completely. Everyone enjoys the game and its characters in a different way. Admittedly, I'm indifferent towards MLP and TF2 is just something I spend an embarrassing amount of hours on (both playing and idling), not something I'm passionate about. And I doubt the Homeworld and Thief fandoms will give you a lot of material to work with, but even if I imagine crossover fanart between stuff I like and dislike for the exercise, it just strikes me as weird/out-of-place and... that's pretty much it. It's uninteresting to me and I forget about uninteresting things fairly quickly.

I know there's terrible fanart out there for the things I like, there are probably a lot of idiots in the fandom as well, a certain portion of the developers might be assholes as well. I don't think about that stuff when enjoying my book/movie/game however, and when I look back at it I remember the time I spend with experiencing the medium itself, not the fanbase.

I honestly can't wrap my head around how people can be traumatized by fanart, it's a completely alien experience to me.
