Maybe because an amateur has a fresh mindset on a few things a professional doesn't see. While not probable, I could see it happening (hence the "sometimes"). Sometimes professionals will tell you you have to these 13 steps in Photoshop to do something and someone else does it better with 5 steps in GIMP.

dA is widely known as a place where you can sometimes find diamonds in the rough, and if you do, they're mostly teens who don't have a concept of how the actual market works and will do the same work as a professional for way less money and often even without reading the fine print/having an idea what effects certain passages can have.
