To be an illustrator, you kind of have to be indiscriminate about who your clients are so long as they aren't going to be asking for porn or something, especially if you don't have a "specialty" like character art, portraits, weapons, or environmental art. If a person wants their OC riding a rainbow whale hooked up to a hot air balloon and they're willing to pay you $50, if you don't do it then somebody else will and that not only means more publicity and money for them, but it will also disadvantage you because you'll be known as that person who says "Your idea isn't good enough to even run through my mind and be painted.". That is not a rep you want as somebody trying to earn money off of commissions. You should obviously let them know it will most likely be in your style, and you may be unwilling to do certain things, but the more publicity the better, even if it is DA.
